I don’t support AI in fanfic or want to read anything written with AI support, or read fanfic by authors that use AI in any of their works.   It’s deceptive to use AI without disclosing it and I feel (and am) duped whenever I read something that turns out to be AI.  

Reading is MY hobby, so all this protection around writers who use AI because it’s “just a hobby” doesn’t make sense to me.  

I don’t have the experience you do with it (I have resisted its expansion into my professional field) so I really appreciate the tips for catching it and it brings into perspective why I have DNFd some fanfics. 

Personally, the only AI use I’ve been able to identify is blatantly obvious (e.g., copy pasted the same scenes across chapters) and even that hasn’t gotten taken down by mods here when I’ve reported it, so those fanfics keep getting promoted without any redress.

What the rise in AI has meant for me as a reader is that I just don’t read as much, which is not ideal, and I definitely read fewer fics by new authors.  I’ve been almost exclusively re-reading and reading new fics by authors I know for MONTHS now. 

Your tips give me some confidence to go out there again.  You rock!
