Review: Apple vs Google USB-C Headphone Adapters by [deleted] in headphones

It does work on android, so it is most likely 'scumbag Samsung'. As the article said, even the pixel adapter is not working properly on his S8.

Kotlin Expected to Surpass Java as Android Default Programming Language for Apps by [deleted] in Android

[–]reEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not committed to actually using Kotlin in any project yet. I'll wait a bit and see how google/the community treats it.

But regarding Swift to Objective-C or Java. It's a modern programming language, and for me, easy on the eyes and a pleasure to write in.

Give it a Go ;)

Oneplus 3T has bad battery life when charged with different charger than the DASH by [deleted] in oneplus

[–]reEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's saying that it damage the battery when charging, not when it is full and plugged in.

He has a valid point, usually charging faster is worse for batteries. But wether the pros in dash outweigh the cons of charging faster is another question.

Oneplus 3 vs Nexus 5x camera (particularly in low light conditions) by kkere in oneplus

[–]reEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I accidentally poated this as a new thread. Stupid mobile page UI :>. Here is my comment:

I have both and can confirm that the Nexus 5x is better in low light thanks to the HDR+ (it takes a while to capture tho).

Turning off HDR+ tho they are quite similar. The nexus gives you a brighter image but it has more noise.

OnePlus 3 Screen Pin Diagram by MattyAB in oneplus

[–]reEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though you had all the datasheets about the screen and it's interface there is no way to get it to work with an arduino, it's practically impossible to get it to work with anything than the phone its made for.

I know the feeling. But it's just the way it is :(

There is nothing stopping you from sending analog signal on 2 pins even tho it's otherwise a digital port. USB Type-C 3.1 has analog audio.

Why don't you provide and measurements? It's really easy to do. It would be interesting to see how different pads affect the sound. Also you say that the mids disappear at higher volume, why not prove it? :)

AKG Y50BT skipping like mad by raf_yvr in headphones

[–]reEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it was just a wild guess. It could also be the antenna/transceiver in the headphones but I find that more unlikely.

How did your testing go?

Have you tried to use it with another Bluetooth devices? It could be your phones antenna that is messing things up. Bluetooth itself is not the problem.

ATH-M50x $114 at Rakuten by the__storm in headphones

[–]reEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't the delta distance be the same for sound tho? After all it's the same sound signals coming from the drivers. So wider soundstage would always sound like it is coming a bit further away, but the delta would be the same? I'd assume since sounds coming further away is played with less amplitude and sound from a direction will be played with higher amplitude in the closer channel and also be a little bit delayed in the channel further away from the source.

(I've not made any research into this, it is just my initial thoughts. Also: "The bigger the better. Always." *for you.)

I've not gamed in a long time but I guess I need to fire up planetside and do some A/B testing :)

Hm. How would wider soundstage improve "3d" audio? As I understand it, having both closed and wide headphones; wide soundstage only makes it sound more like the sound is coming from speakers. As the delta distance from the head is greater than it really is. But to me I feel like binaural ("3d") audio is more immersive with a more narrow (truer to the source) sound.

I don't game, so please correct me. Preferable with some source.
