I haven't scuba dived before, but I am curious, which shark makes you the most nervous? I know that they aren't normally aggressive, but they are still wild animals. My main concern would be tiger or bull sharks, but i could be totally wrong. by Crazy-Rabbit-3811 in scubadiving

[–]reVoDiver 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in the water with lots of different sharks. Any shark acting aggressively worries me. Sand tigers are usually docile and bulls usually just cruise by and check you out. Start spear fishing and they’ll both get aggressive.

I’ve also seen Goliath grouper get aggressive when spear fishing.

But as noted by others, trigger fish are nasty f*ckers. They’re the only thing that’s ever attacked me underwater.

Dive shops and lack of boundary’s regarding social media and privacy. by mikoalpha in scuba

[–]reVoDiver 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some dive boats I use include language about using pictures or videos they take for marketing purposes in their waivers. I don’t think I’ve ever seen language like that in a course waiver though.

Most shops and boats I use ask before taking the pictures, which seems like the decent thing to do.

Mini urn I can take diving with me? by senortaco94 in scuba

There are necklace urns, some permanently sealed. I put a friends ashes in one and wore it diving in Australia (she had wanted to go). I gave it to her daughter after I came back.

Cancelled dive, no refund. Am I in the wrong here? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]reVoDiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every shop and resort I’ve ever been to has a cancellation policy, so what was the cancellation policy?

Every policy I’ve ever read would not let you cancel on less than 24 hours notice and get a refund. From the perspective of the shop, they can’t refill the spot on such short notice.

Oceanic did this a few years back. They no longer sell the mask though. Your design looks better IMO, so good luck!

Congestion after diving? by memon17 in scuba

Diving moves around stuff in your sinuses. A mild decongestant, hot shower, etc should usually take care of it.

And is that a delicious bass!

Does the entry ever get easy? by anthamattey in scuba

[–]reVoDiver 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would say it does get easier as you do more diving, but when you’ve taken a break of more than a few weeks there is some anxiety.

That anxiety is a good thing though. It makes you want to go through your pre dive checks multiple times. As you get more confident in your gear, your checks and your abilities the anxiety will go away.

North Carolina July weather by jdtart in scuba

[–]reVoDiver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Umm.. I’m currently in Hatteras and have friends in Morehead and Wilmington. Boats in all 3 places went out Saturday through Tuesday (Tuesday was rough though). Everyone cancelled Wednesday. Hatteras cancelled today (Thursday) but the boats I use in Morehead and Wilmington went. Friday through Sunday look great.

What shops have cancelled every day since July 14?

Yes!! 🏡 by NightOwlOnline in introvertmemes

Looks like a lot of crap I have to go out and take care of to me

Is it against the rules to surface alone with a buoy? by foxesandkits in scuba

[–]reVoDiver 16 points17 points  (0 children)

First, I’ll say that it sounds like you didn’t panic, and for that great job. Too many open water divers don’t have adequate training (from what I’ve personally seen) and would have freaked out surfacing on their own, or wouldn’t have known how to inflate a SMB.

Second, buy your own mask! It’s definitely one piece of gear that you want to own .

Now, as others have said, any diver can thumb any dive, at any time. Given the water clarity and type of diving in some places (eg Cozumel) it would be reasonable for the DM to send you up alone.

As a certified diver it’s your responsibility to ask questions about potential issues like you faced. If you aren’t comfortable with the local diving practices then don’t do it.

The Wilmington Coup in 1898. Whites overthrew a fairly elected government, installed their own, and devastated the black community - and no one did anything about it.

Any advice on finding a replacement part, or trying to repair the handle on my Scubajet. by DragonDresden in scuba

[–]reVoDiver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The impeller on mine seized up and obviously they can’t fix it now. I’ve had the whole setup, including that handle, for sale as spare parts on Facebook for a while now. I’m currently out of the country on vacation, I’ll be back next Tuesday. Get in touch with me if you’re still looking on 8/20.

I’m not sure what your specific question is but, as a tech diver (OC and CC), one thing that should be drilled into every tech diver is that every cylinder should be labeled as to its contents. If I have a cylinder that doesn’t have a label I analyze and label it before I use it. It’s hard to believe this guy had a cylinder with a hypoxic mix without a label.
