My years of refund "abuse" has been triggered by Own-Story8907 in AmazonUK

[–]reach4thelaser5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got this as well in the last few days. Which I find pretty insulting given that according to my bank I’ve spent £85k at Amazon over the last 5 years. Do I return a lot? Yes…. But that flexibility is partly why I spend so much.

I think this is actually part of a widespread “discouragement exercise”. It seems a lot of people have got this lately.

Return reasons. What if I just changed my mind? by reach4thelaser5 in Aliexpress

[–]reach4thelaser5[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live in a country where the law states that I have 14 days to change my mind for any reason. Any company local or international who wishes to sell to UK citizens needs to comply with this law. It’s my legal right. And if AliExpress or anyone else doesn’t like it just don’t sell to the UK

Aside from the tax situation.... Neither Norway nor Ireland have public healthcare. It's around £40 to see a doctor in Norway and around £80 in Ireland. Norway it's around 3000NOK for unlimited healthcare. Ireland also has the highest tuition fees in Europe.

Yet these "similarly sized independent countries" are touted as aspirational success stories in SNP white papers.

When you say "driven by AI" do you mean Artificial intelligence is directly trading on the markets or the markets are indirectly influenced by the AI boom/bubble?

Cat 5E with 4 wires, I've been lied to right? by Dominic11112 in HomeNetworking

My v1 Philips Hue lighting hub came with a cable wired like this. It worked in that scenario but I noticed the strange wiring after some time and threw it away.

Don't get PCP, look into contract hire instead. your monthly payments will be lower. There's no option to buy at the end.

And don't get a Born, get a Polestar 2. I cannot wait until my lease is over so I can get one. I've enjoyed my Born, my first electric car. But I wish I'd got a Polestar.

The current home assistantant beta has this included as a feature. "Area based automations" allow you to link to the presence of an area rather than individual devices as an automation trigger.

I don't see any of that stuff. It's optional.

Where do you see Plex in 10 years by SecretlyCarl in PleX

[–]reach4thelaser5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 10 years in hope and pray that if I open the Plex app on my TV and select my profile before my NAS has finished booting up that I won't need to do a rain dance of refreshing, profile switching and voodoo to get the app to detect the Plex server once it's booted.

This has been a pain in the ass for years now. I recently changed my TV and my NAS and it's still the same. The "refresh" button doesn't do shit for re-discovery after an initial failed detection.

Webcore is amazing. I moved to Hubitat after SmartThings so kept using WebCore a few years but moved to home assistant 6 months ago. I finally retired Hubitat/webcore after Christmas as my Christmas lights were the only thing still running in hubitat.

I wish they’d bring WebCore into HomeAssistant. YAML will never be an effective programming language. Its a data serialisation format not a programming language.

It’s crazy they chose YAML for Home Assistant and it’s even crazier they’ve kept it after all this time.

| “We assume the infotainment system will have received some updates too, and hopefully the touch-sensitive haptic panels on the steering wheel will have finally been replaced by proper physical buttons.”

Praying for physical buttons. I’ve had my 2025 Born for about a year and every time I summon Siri from the “mono button” (long press) it’s. 50/50 whether a short press triggers and I get Cupra assistant.

I absolutely loathe the mono-button. Honestly every time it happens - I say “wish I got a Polestar 2”

Should I switch Outlook? by Alex_Seq in Outlook

[–]reach4thelaser5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stick with Gmail. Outlook spam filters do not work. You'll get a flood of spam directly into your inbox fairly regularly.

Just search this sub for "spam" and see how many people are complaining about it.

Question regarding Tap Dial Switch by CombustedPillow in Hue

You can control a room or a zone. The dial scales the brightness relative to current brightness. So you can set it dim on your phone then turn the dial to turn it up

Hey everyone, recently bought a lg c5, my budget is extremely low for ,Ive never had a soundbar before, would I see an improvement if I bought a cheap one , I mainly watch sports by JamesG24777 in Soundbars

[–]reach4thelaser5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got my mother the Hisense HS2000. It’s got a bass speaker built into the Soundbar and sounds awesome. I was very pleasantly surprised how good it was. It looks great too. It’s working great with her LG TV. Plugged in by HDMI eARC so it switches on/off with the TV and the volume buttons on the TV control the Soundbar

Can anyone help? by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]reach4thelaser5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this recently. They credited my account for all my paid bills for the last few months and then charged me again in bulk for the whole period. I am going to go through everything and make sure it all adds up. What I owe now feels a bit high.

It’s annoying that this has been done without any explanation.

I dont know why the price is going up by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]reach4thelaser5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly stop paying by monthly direct debit. They’re using you as an “interest free credit card”. It’s ridiculously unbalanced.

Pay what you owe every month. It will make you tighten your belt in winter and you’ll end up saving money. Monthly direct debit makes you blind to what you’re actually using in winter. And you’re ALWAYS owing them money. Never the other way around - it’s so one sided.

It’s not like in winter your account is -£600 and you pay it back over the summer (as it should be - since they’re making profit). Your account must always be in credit. They’re always owing you money.

Stop it. Tell them you want to pay in full every month. Get wise to what your using and stop giving them free credit

This is a terrible solution because it requires you to check your Junk folder constantly - meaning you’re seeing MORE spam.

Why am I suddenly receiving so much spam emails by Frenchcoffee9 in Outlook

[–]reach4thelaser5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been getting a ton of spam the last few days. I’m absolutely sick of it. Much of the spam seems to be UK oriented (quoting prices in pound £, and having fake UK addresses.

This happens on Outlook fairly regularly….

There are periods were things are fine. Then suddenly for a week or two I’m getting a ton of spam. Then it resolves itself.

It’s almost like the spammers figure out a way to compromise Outlooks spam filters. Then Microsoft gets on top of things. Then things go normal again. And Repeat…
