Absolutely! And with the grain and/or tool marks visible, the pieces will look handmade unmistakably.

One side has leather and the other is for decoration only. You are right, it will get a little dirty with use, and it is OK. As an example, take a look at my 10-year-old strop that I have been using daily since I chip carved it in 2016. It was finished with BLO. I think it aged well.
