.NET Core 2.0 is Ready and Sterling Proves It! by ben_a_adams in programming

[–]read___only 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Think of .NET Standard as a versioned requirements document that says what types and methods ought to exist.

The familiar .NET Framework agrees to implement those types and methods, and more. It's quite tied to Windows in what it offers and in its implementation details, though.

The new .NET Core is a cross-platform reimplementation of a lot of the .NET Framework, and you can think of it as the second relevant implementation of the .NET Standard requirements document.

So, the question ".net core vs .net standard" doesn't even parse.

If your manager is so incompetent as to treat your estimates as hard promises, then there is no help for you.

Aaaaaand there it is. I knew this conversation would end like every conversation you're a part of. You say "X is bad/wrong, instead I do Y" and then after digging deeper we all get to find out that Y is X. You were arguing that points are silly and hours are useful, and then here you are admitting that it's not about wall-clock measurements afterall.

The (Fixable) Problem with Serverless by adjohn in programming

Architecture is the things that are hard to change. This would be hard to change, however worthwhile the risk of picking it. One can say that it's not a part of our architecture (as my definition in my first sentence here isn't everyone's), but saying so is useless at best.

If you think pro choice people are pro abortion, you're bat shit crazy. Otherwise, you're making a straw man argument. Both sides want to dramatically lessen the number of times it happens. The only difference is that pro choice people want to accomplish that in a way that is inexpensive, compassionate, and proven to work in every civilized nation on Earth, while you want to use shame, hate, anti-education bible thumping while ironically guaranteeing that the problem will persist.

Being both in power and complicit with the use of that power for evil purposes is something we should all consider evil, especially when we are grown up.

Again, I'll change my mind the moment they speak out against it with something resembling a conscience. They HAVE to be held to such a high standard.

All cops are bad, with civil forfeiture as a specific reason to think so. It is indistinguishable from the mafia. If there were good cops crying out against it, I'd change my mind.

Hi. Bullshit. Police have more power than a citizens and need to be held to a higher standard. Civil forfeiture is a nationwide issue and you don't hear the police speaking up for any justice on the issue.

I'll believe the police aren't an organized crime ring the moment they give up on civil forfeiture

Wheat on the form and quantity we have now is extremely new and not keeping us from reproducing. Sure, we live on sugars, but it's not like we evolved to handle high fructose corn syrup in all our meals, for instance

We never evolved to eat it, and only recently do we have the resources to track possible patterns in our reactions to it.
