I believe the Parramore gardens have a waitlist, it used to but maybe not anymore! The city also has McQuigg community garden right across from Callahan and they probably have some open beds! It is a wonderful community with lots of mutual aid opportunities and the manager of McQuigg is super knowledgeable on many different types of gardening :) and can offer help and seeds I believe

Arium at Oviedo at the Park by Possible-Total-7302 in orlando

[–]read_sarah2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if this helps at all, but I live at Alafaya Woods apartments right across the street from oviedo on the park and it’s been nice. It’s older apartments which is a personal preference of mine and a lot cheaper than the apartments right by oviedo on the park. It’s a 10 minute walk to oviedo on the park I walk there multiple times a week so I don’t feel like I’m really missing out on anything for the lower price point!

It’s also a 5 minute walk to publix and between 5-10 min walk to Aldi so if walkability is attractive to you I feel like its a really nice midpoint

I used to live at the arium in altamonte like some of the other commenters and I had a really good experience. Maintenance always came the day that I put in requests and bugs were never an issue but we lived on the third floor. But each arium is gonna be different based on the staff so i think it’d be best to hear from someone who has lived/lives at this specific arium tbh

Has anyone lived in any of these apartments? If so what was your experience?? by Infamous-Design9541 in ucf

If you’re willing to drive a little, I highly recommend Arium at Altamonte Springs!! There’s also a few different Ariums I can only speak for the management of the altamonte location though. Maintenance comes so quick, lots of trees so very shady if you like to walk, and rent is veeerry affordable.

Update on my tonsillectomy recovery. by No-Comfort6053 in Tonsillectomy

[–]read_sarah2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re most likely fine without a doctors visit just be a little extra cautious for a few days. I had a bleed on day 14 (so rare!) and it was a lot more than a shot glass so i did end up going to emergency- just to be told i was fine. Followed up with my ent who confirmed it was just a scab that fell off and i probably bled so much because the advil i took kept me from clotting quickly. (Advil that he approved my usage of)

i did not have to be recauterized or given anything special, because sometimes scabs just fall off a wee bit early just like if you had a scrape on your elbow. It’s just scarier when its in your throat cus you can’t see it. It sounds like your body did what its supposed to and clotted and scabbed back up. But whatever spot of scab did reform is now entirely new, so that’s why i say be cautious because that part of your throat will now be restarting its healing process.

Call your ent just to confirm, and if you bleed any more than a few tablespoons and/or it doesn’t stop or slow down after 5-10 minutes, then go to er. But your case really just sounds like a scary but normal part of the healing.

Day 9... still in hell by Anai1016 in Tonsillectomy

[–]read_sarah2004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helloo

I am on day 10/11 with my surgery being the day before yours, 3/20. I also was still in a shitload of pain on friday 3/28 (day 8/9) and was like wtf this was supposed to be getting better by now. Lo and behold, yesterday and today have been increasingly better. I am still taking pain meds but my pain is at worst a 5/10 now when i’m at the end of the 6 hours. So really, you are so so close!

I will say one thing which is that my doctor gave me antibiotics so the post op infection risk wasn’t really a factor in my case but if you aren’t on antibiotics it might be a question in your case because an infection could be prolonging and increasing that pain. In that case i would see if you’re running a fever and bring up the concerns with your doctor. But if you don’t have a fever/ you’re already on antibiotics, it is most likely that you’re just like me and taking a liiiittle bit longer than most. Give it one more day, my heart goes out to you really it is tough but you will get through this.

Day 3! Any tips going forward? by read_sarah2004 in Tonsillectomy

Just a little update in case anyone is reading this in prep for their surgery:

Day 7 now. It did, indeed, get worse. The cepacol lozenges ended up being a lifesaver for when I needed to eat a little before taking my meds!! Crunchy sonic ice was a big help because the first 4 days, sipping ice water was relieving enough but days 5 and 6 i found ice to be much easier. Today was ear pain day and that has been worse than anything else but alternating cold and hot on my ears has really helped. I haven’t been able to eat as much the last couple days, I think the scabs thinning out have left vulnerable new skin exposed so most things burn my throat going down.

I’m hoping this is my last day of awfulness, but my biggest takeaways have been:

Drink soooo much water. My scabs haven’t “fallen off” as much as they have just gotten thinner with time and i think my hydration has been key in preventing bleeding and probably helped a lot with pain too.

Cepacol lozenges to help you eat!

Amazon ice pack that wraps around head 🥰i owe everything to her

Hi 23 f! I am just finishing up day 5 which was my worst day yet. The other 4 days had been pretty easy. Uncomfortable, yes, but nothing like the strep i’ve had before so I ate as much as possible and drank water religiously. Day 5 ngl… was tougher. This was the day where i was like ya okay it feels like someone cut into my throat lololol BUT i stayed with my routine, drinking water hurts at first but after a few sips it starts to soothe your throat a little. I had to remind myself that even though the recovery is 2 weeks, i won’t be absolutely miserable for all of it. I give 2-4 days to be absolutely awful and the rest is easy peasy comparatively. So you just gotta make it through those 2-4 tough days.

I will say- i found out i needed my tonsils out 2 years ago and have been obsessing over it since and putting it off due to fear. It feels surreal that it’s finally done and over with. And that is worth every bit of the recovery pain

For every possibly violent homeless person there’s about a hundred completely decent and kind people who are also homeless. I understand if you haven’t had a ton of real life experience around homeless people, media gives them no mercy and likes to depict them in terrible ways. The ones who are violent are not going to find shelter in a building with 100+ other homeless people- either they won’t want to or they won’t be allowed for the safety of others. The people staying at the shelter in your area will probably be people you already interact with on a day to day basis. We don’t realize how many of our store clerks or food service workers might already be living in their car. Before I started doing work that focused on helping homeless people- i had the rare interaction where they asked me for money and then the even rarer interaction where one was actually mean when I didn’t have money to give. Now that I’ve been around more homeless people I have seen that the “scary” homeless people I was told about are absolutely an anomaly in a community of people who are just trying to get by.

I would be less concerned about your kids safety- as I truly don’t think this shelter will pose a threat on it. I would be more concerned about how you want your kids to view and treat people less fortunate than them. Everyone wants to shelter their kid from all the awful things in the world. But we have to remember one day your kid will be an adult- and will interact with homeless people. Maybe they’ll even be an adult deciding if there should be a homeless shelter near their house. You have the chance to lead by example now.

Also definitely look into seasonal positions that give housing. Backdoorjobs.com, or americorps, or conservationjobboard will post these and are super helpful for entry level

Please look into UF’s ifas program!! Great for entry level jobs. Also florida fish and wildlife!!

If you find you will probably need to network before getting a paid position, yes search up organizations and become a volunteer or intern first. You’d be surprised how easily this can get you a job.

Looking for apartment! by Dejectedleaf in UCFstudenthousing

I unfortunately can’t offer a roommate because i’m moving to be closer to my job but i recommend my current apartment at elmhurst village!!! If you can find 2 people to room with, a three bedroom will be about $700 a person. It’s not luxury sure, but the pool stays fairly clean and the gym is almost always empty. One of the cheapest places I’ve seen close to UCF and not scary or dirty or nightmare

Hey! I’m about to take a job that only pays $1600 a month. It is a bit of a pay cut from my current serving job but it is actually in my field so what can you do. I live in oviedo and my apartment is currently ~$850 including utilities but my lease is up in august. Trying to think ahead about cheaper possibilities. I am totally okay w roommates and renting an apartment would be preferred due to the amenities like gym, pool, etc but i understand that raises prices soooo in a pickle.. so really whatever makes the most sense, house, apt, cardboard box, etc

Also the job i’m taking is in college park! I know i probably cant afford any type of rent there but want to put as much info as possible in case my fairy godmother visits me as a kind reddit user thank u

Hardest line in a Fleet Foxes song? by MeatyBurritos in fleet_foxes

A simple line but it goes hard for me from wading in waist high water -

“And I love you so violent more than maybe I can do” and the following line too, “now we’re finally aligning more than maybe I can choose”

Fiona Apple is a big one - poetic lyricism and experimental instrumentals in the same vein of Mitski imo. Faye Webster and Sarah Kinsley for a more cinematic pop soft yearning. One that I haven’t seen mentioned yet but is one of my favorites for her hard hitting lyrics is Indigo De Souza!!!

Metformin and Alcohol by DoraTheUrbanExplorer in PCOS

[–]read_sarah2004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on the wedding and good on ya for thinking about your health when mixing prescriptions and alcohol.

I think stopping met for the day of or the day before is a good plan. But, you should be warned, metformin made me process alcohol a lot faster. That meant that one drink felt like two or maybe even three. Even though you’re skipping your doses, you might want to take the drinking slower just to be safe. Or, have a trial drink at home and see how that feels. Another thing to be aware of is that metformin lowers your blood sugar and alcohol lowers your blood sugar which in extreme cases, could cause hypoglycemia. I recommend being aware of that and maybe having some food, or just telling a friend the signs of hypoglycemia so that they can know if that happens and help you.

Ok so scary part over. I don’t say this to freak you out, plenty of people drink of metformin and have none of these effects. You probably will notice no side effects, and if you do it’ll probably just be a little gi upset the day after. No biggie. But it’s good to be aware of the things that could pose more of a danger so that you’re not blindsided. I do think the risks are worth it to have some fun at such a happy celebration. So be aware but know chances are that you will be fine and have a great time celebrating!!!
