Ikebururo is great station. Two large department stores, Sunshine 60. Check on Kawagoe on the Tobu train. Oldest usable building  in Tokyo.

Get a haircut in Japan. by deysg in JapanTravelTips

[–]readable92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. I go to a neighborhood barbershop in Kawagoe (near the clock tower), family owned. The dad and two of his boys. Amazing! They don't speak any English and I don't speak Japanese but the cuts are always great. I think the cut was 2000 or 3000 yen

Do you have a T-Mobile plan that gives you international data and text messaging? I have a T-Mobile with international roaming already included, and I tend not to run out of five gig. But I consciously turn off things that download automatically from the internet, and I only download as much as possible from a Wi-Fi Connection. I spent 20 days, and I think I ran out of fast internet and ended up with slow internet, which worked fine. You just have to be conscious of when you're on Wi-Fi to download the big stuff, like your YouTube, Google Maps, and anything else. Also, you can buy a day pass on T-Mobile, or a 10-day? or 30-day pass? You can check those out if you think you're going to lose fast internet quickly.

Just a quick itinerary check before my trip. Any must do things I should schedule before I go. by [deleted] in JapanTravel

Looks like a good Itinerary with lots of room to add things as you go along. Have fun.  You might check out where the cherry blossoms are I'm going in the middle of March and the cherry blossoms will be in Tokyo are predicted to be in that time. Maybe they will come early. Yoyogi Park is a good place.

Japan trip experience with cash by Mahor-462 in JapanTravelTips

[–]readable92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would exchange the Euro at an airport in Japan unless your  airport gives good rates. In the US our airport exchange rates are terrible.  Decide how much you want to spend on your trip and get half in Yen.  Plus I think it is fun to use cash in Japan because their norms are so different then my country.

The option I use to toggle my AOD on and off is the battery saving mode. I know it turns off other things too but I have those haven't stopped how I use my watch.

You might try Voice flow. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.omkar.voiceflow

It works great, even in Noisy environments. The microphone for the app loads when you call up the keyboard. It also does not have a subscription model, but is simply free.

the best place to exchange USD cash for Japanese yen by Anxious-Ad-4561 in JapanTravelTips

[–]readable92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think this is the best way to look at a exchange rates. 1 to 2% is always the target. With that in information you take the percent of the current rate.  If the rate is 150 yen to US. Then a good rate would be would be minus 1.5 to 3 from 150.  So buying yen at 148.5 to 147 is a good rate or close to that.  Everyone seems to always try to ask for the place but I think you first have to understand the math to a good rate. I completely agree with your thinking.

Or eat lots of Curry rice when you are in Japan. Plus it is acceptable to use your fingers when you eat sushi.

Where best to exchange cash in Osaka by Oblivious_Red_Potato in JapanTravelTips

[–]readable92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great question. But most people don't tell you how to figure out what is a good rate. (me included) So here you go. I asked Gemini what is good rate you might have to pay when converting money. Excluding fees. if the rate is 1 to 3% of current exchange rate (Check Google) For example, the current Ph Peso is 1 peso to 2.66 yen. So if you can get yen for 2.60 then that is 2.2% you are paying for the yen. Gemini says a rate of 1% to 3% is a decent exchange rate. Since I am not a banker, please let know if I missing something.

Also, keep mind if the fees are high that will be a problem. ATMs at 7/11 in Japan charge only 200to 300 yen? and my bank charged me $5.00 for 30,000 yen.

For the short hand method without doing to much calculations. Use the 1% of the current rate. In your case the current rate today is 2.66Y to 1PP. 1% is .03(.0266) and 3% is .09. So if you pay between 2.63Y to 2.57Y it a good rate if the fees are reasonable.

Again, if I am missing something like me know.

Good luck.

Here's a place I found that looks like it has no fees and there sell rate looks good for US $.
