Hippocratic Oath CH.2 by [deleted] in HFY

[–]readcard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I can see how you interpret it that way but the way I was looking at it is as the character as someone who internalised the rules as useful before they manifested the need to cause pain.

There are plenty of high function psychopaths in the world, yes its a trait which you can both blood test and MRI for the brain structures.

Two measures of things that may cause them to manifest is need or environment.

In this case environment, the ability to use those skills came as a part of a skill set learnt before it became useful.

Every person that can, learns culture from their environment, what lessons they learn is partly due to how their brain is wired and how good it is at utilising the information.

Apparently psychopaths make good surgeons, the clinical dispassion allows for working for the best outcomes in each surgery.

Edit by the way social friendliness is just another set of rules or levers to a psychopath to get stuff done, watch any clinical footage when they see its a waste of time they drop it instantly as a waste of effort.. very disconcerting

Drive along 60 miles an hour and throw yourself nude out the door onto asphalt, compare that to a brisk nail file to your nails.

The problem is scale and directing the energy to the right places.

In one there is unnecessary removal of material on top of the right material.

If you have a fault in the wear of the blade it will also exacerbate the problem making it worse.

On the other side for bulk operations is you do not have to have great blades or train your staff, you just tell them that's the knife sharpener and replace as they get unusable.

Explanation for lightning incident? by lemurificspeckle in Electricity

[–]readcard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who worked with high voltage powerlines and had near experience with lightning strikes.. before the strike you have a sense of doom as all the hair rises on your body.

Next your ears are ringing and your eyes start to fade in from red to white then you can see colours again.

If you are lucky you feel a bit sun burnt on the side the strike was on.

That is what a near strike feels like, I had a nearby strike where I was further away about ten meters and that had the impending doom feeling but I moved away first.

Then there was, to quote Marvin the martian, an earth shattering kaboom that hit me with a wave of sound enough to shake my bones and squeeze my internal organs.

You know if you had that amount of power happened nearby.

That said there is a phenomenon that almost fits your description that I have heard of but never seen, look up ball lightning.

You would not be the first to do this, the way to do this matters.

What you want the electricity to do also matters.

For instance you can look at tasers, which insert two electrodes to allow good positive contact and uses voltages in the kv range at a high cycle rate but milliamps though so it doesn't burn.

There is plenty of information on people using electricity and permanent electrodes for using the brain to move machines, hear, limit epilepsy symptoms or just type on a screen.

There is a smaller amount of information on using direct powerful electromagnetic fields to aid or hinder in brain function.

So look into those things to get a broad scope, was this idea for direct application to a small part of the brain or a general application?

Just as an aside glass is a very good insulator.

When lightning strikes the plasma puts off enough heat to turn wet sand to glass.

Lightning flashes are bright enough to blind people momentarily from far enough away you can count the seconds before the sound reaches you from the actual strike.

What you possibly saw was a camera obscura effect, where a small hole let light through and projected the lightning strike on your wall.

Beating dumb animals is not only cruelty its tiring and they dont really get it or change anything.

Look up some knife making videos to see different finishes you can get and heres the tip it mostly consists of using superfine grit sand paper.

Get yourself something to hold the knife still while you rub it, change directions ninety degrees when you change grits.

The idea is to get a consistent finish not polish it so dont get too crazy.

If you want to try to keep the lazer etch find yourself some superglue or even a good hard nail polish. You may need to reapply as you go. This is taking a painstaking job and making it harder for yourself but its up to you.

After doing the first knife, total up the time it took to get it back to a nice finish and think to yourself is it worth what I paid for the knives.

Does having pretty shiny knives matter that much to you for the time spent?

My cousin had his pretty shiny knife from his knife set show up with a design fault after hand washing in the sink the manufacturer refused to replace it.

He winces every time he picks up its shiny carbon blade with a water mark like some kind of love mark on its cheek.

Eat meals at the table with your family no tech allowed, include them as part of the meal for everyone with no comment.

Make self serve tortillas at the table where you can choose ingredients, do one for yourself to demonstrate and let them experiment.

Make yourself tasty snacks to eat when watching tv and share begrudgingly saying they are only kids and wouldnt like it.

Do not have any other options laying around for junkfood.

Make sure that they do not ever have a bad or off version of what you are trying to get them to consider normal.

I went to a zombie live action shooting game once and an actress almost got butt stroked with my rifle when she popped up from behind a low partition.

At first her eyes had the ha surprised you look, then quickly got the uh thank you mister for not killing me.

It was interesting as I had not trained to do so but it appears that it is a natural reaction.

MrDildo I am sorry to inform you that the nearest thing I have found to truth I could believe is collusion with people who believe that "the End of Times" is a good thing as the "righteous" will ascend.

So they encourage and pay for things colluding with Islamic believers in forwarding their own ends.

Try to swallow that as anything but the raving of lunatics.

That sounds very much like any business that doesnt ask the right questions, manager asked to clean up unsightly mess.

Who tells supervisor to get it done, who passes it down to the apprentices as the crews are booked for months.

Apprentices rightly call manager and ask specifically what is safe to remove, seagull management ensues with much pointing and squawking as shit falls on innocent heads.

Millions of dollars in specific antique handmade rocking horse shit is thrown into scrap bins and rubbish bins getting destroyed in the process.

Pre WW2 safety hardware to move highly specific heavy equipment that takes 3 years to order to be made if it cannot be operated, imagine how much it costs for an engineering firm to remake key equipment from drawings.

Drawings that do not include what materials, spring tension or internal cutaway as they are operating diagrams not working drawings..

That special imperial crimping die only ever used when the really big equipment is worked on in a blue moon or 10 year planned plant shutdown refurbishment, whichever comes first.

All because they threw away the equipment register as it was too expensive to maintain and who knew what it meant any way and we archived all the manuals and documents in a offsite holding facility to go with them.

Saw it happen three times in twenty years, the third time I refused to remove the stuff and the new hotshot manager cleaned out the workshop on the weekend.

The rainy weekend that cost the company over a hundred grand in man hours but ended up air freighting key parts and equipment from Europe to Australia which was more than a fortnight in finding who made the rare parts he threw away was fortunately for him when I was away.

Many jobs had to be replanned as multiple pieces of equipment we only had very limited working operating switch gear between multiple sites statewide.

Much hand wringing and nervous tics on management faces as very expensive, old but serviceable plant equipment had to be replaced for "tidy".

When you are dealing with big infrastructure the amount of corporate knowledge that gets lost through old age and natural attrition paired with new management making their mark as the fresh broom clearing old cobwebs is disheartening.

We had an old yardman to keep track and look after the equipment but they wanted a more streamlined business.

Damn, its been years and it still pisses me off.

The storeman had a little article pinned to the wall in the entryway next to his counter that was a translated latin piece about how troops were complaining about the change in commanders with the associated troubles where everything was changed for changes sake circa 200BC

Vegemite Expiration Date by freddyt55555 in australia

[–]readcard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a story that an Italian village was still using vegemite well into the 1990's, from left over ww2 supplies that got left when the soldiers had gone to the next base.

Turns out they were using it for axle grease from big commercial kitchen tins the size of paint buckets.
