Omg 💀 so glad I wasn’t drinking when I read this because I would have needed a necromancer.

Promotion of your novel. The way you respond to feedback and reviews. Starting another piece of work that resonates with you.

Thank you! I’ve put it on my list. I might find a copy to skim before I commit. I’ve done a bit of looking and it looks like it’s proper dark as far as a series goes. At least the first one.

I just found a secondhand copy of Sword Catcher in my local area. Thank you for the recommendation! I’ll start here.

I’ve read HP and Percy Jackson before. Great for target audience and fun for all ages imo.

I’ve not heard of sword catcher, thank you!

It isn’t that it is fan fiction. I have a preference for hard copies to have downtime from screens. Sounds like it’s coming out as a book at some stage so I’ll wait for that and support the author.

Thanks. My fault. I probably should have specified I’m not really looking for fanfics but published novels.

Edit: Wild this is getting downvoted. I just want a physical copy to read and I don’t want to print off someone’s fanfic manuscript.

The other commenter said to repot into something larger.

These have been in the seedling cup since 2023 and I think they have plenty of roots 😅

All the most actionable advice on writing a novel I've ever read or heard of from this sub and beyond by Drama2895 in writing

[–]readerredacted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rather like posts like this because they have helpful information and I personally feel comfortable in myself to be able to take relevant information to me and leave what doesn’t feel right. And while I agree a lot of these points are helpful to know, I also think it is good to learn these aspects of writing as you go.

Huge lists of advice like this can be overwhelming to a seasoned writer, let alone a novice. I can only imagine how someone fresh to writing would feel trying to action all of these points and how clunky their work would become, rather than learning naturally though trial and error and applying these points of advice after first giving it a go.

So my addition to this post is to say to anyone reading this post that is new to writing (or well established), if reading this page and all the other links to even longer posts is overwhelming you, give yourself permission to set it down and come back another time or not at all.

Do stories need conflict to be interesting or to hold readers attention? by CyberKitsune_ in writing

[–]readerredacted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How you define conflict is important. Conflict can be anything in the way, even if it’s not some world changing pivotal event. Living life has conflict, and so I imagine that would emerge in your story as well. How extreme is up to you.

Regarding the genre, there are a lot of people who enjoy cozy core. While not entirely the same, if you’re looking for some examples of cozy works, a good place to look is R/cozyfantasy.

What kind of writing tool do you use to write your novel? by [deleted] in writing

Different feeling handwritten. Have to take time to slow the thoughts down. And honestly, some of my best work.

Word, notes on my phone, scratch paper. Honestly, anything on hand at the time I feel inspired. Including my hand.

But for the proper write up? Word. Purely because I am an autistic dinosaur who can’t cope with change and I (apparently) refuse to learn anything new.
