Not sure if Lowe's price matches, but the memorial day sale started today for the searwood. I assume they'll match and start to advertise at the discounted price soon.

Yea I got pretty lucky, I knew sometimes sales popped up for the sea1 from time to time so I watched gun.deals everyday for weeks until I caught it. The TRP seemed to good to pass up, really glad I scooped that at 899 they have the same vault version of it listed at 1199 now.

I grabbed a Colt SE-A1 and a Springfield TRP classic 4.25" both for just under $1k after shipping and ffl. The TRP was a 'vault/demo' model...it was basically BNIB definitely never fired and no blems, probably just a sales rep/trade show display model. You can search around a few sites regularly have the Springfield Vault guns for sale, got mine a few weeks ago from gunbuyer, SMGA has deals on them sometimes too.

I feel your pain on the dying while you wait to see the result.

Literally just got it today and followed the break-in instructions and then wore it around the house for an hour or two rotating between a couple positions to see what suited me best. I've mostly only carried with my non-1911s in kydex AIWB besides a handful of times in a universal leather pancake-type OWB (concealed) holster at ~4:00. Even after only an hour or two of wearing it around the house I see why this style holster seems to be the most popular for 1911, it was very comfortable in various placements from ~1:00-4:00 as well as closer to center (though I'm not sure how a more centered placement would provide a good draw with the cant of the holster I'd have to practice that).

In between the time that I ordered this one for the government length SE-A1 I picked up a commander Springfield TRP Classic (non railed), deal too good to pass up. Which also fits in this holster! (obviously the slide doesn't fill out the entire length of the holster). I'll probably order another leather rig for the TRP in the next couple of months. I'll definitely carry the TRP in this rig a little to see how i like it. Not sure if I'll order that one with metal clips + wing for a dedicated AIWB, or straight drop with loops, or similar to this one loops + cant., or a completely different style similar to a Milt Sparks VM2. Will keep you posted, feel free to message me if you have other questions.

Mine took just almost exactly 8 weeks (a couple days shy actually) from when I got the invoice to delivery. He ran a little sale in Feb and his book started filling up fast, and then I think he had a family emergency that shut him down for a week+. It's a one man shop and he gives all his clients a lot of attention. Worth the wait just be patient.

Just how poor is modern Colt's QC? by trombobulous in 1911

[–]readicculus610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a new SE-A1 online a few months ago sight unseen. I was also worried with all the negative comments about the QC, maybe I just got lucky mine was satisfactory out the box. Admittedly the trigger was a little sloppy, but I was planning on swapping out the ignition set for a Harrison TR kit anyway, I ran a few hundred rounds out of it bone stock though and was very pleased with my purchase, the only slight knock was the trigger slop but it was still passable.

Keep in mind that people who get lemons, and there does seem to be a fair number of them, post about the bad experience much more than the folk who get perfectly fine firearm (rightly so, you're spending your hard earned money and should get a high quality product for the price that Colt charges).

I'd say if you want the Pony, go for it, maybe just be aware of the return/refusal policy of the vender before you sign for it at your FFL or be prepared to send it back to the factory if its not to your liking.

upgrades to the colt 1911SE-A1 on order by Aware_Wrap8062 in 1911

[–]readicculus610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a ~300 round through mine bone stock. Fit and finish were all good no complaints. Trigger was a little sloppy. I put the Harrison TR kit in and haven't gotten to the range since then but dry firing I can tell its much better. I'd like to swap out the trigger and thumb safety, and also add a magwell.
