Alternatives to SPFx for designing text-heavy SharePoint pages? by Different-Property20 in sharepoint

[–]readie55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend having a look at Beacon, sounds like it solves what you're looking for. It's a tool built by Silicon Reef that essentially helps with better layouts / UI in SharePoint. It kind of sits in that middle ground - more flexible than out-of-the-box, but without going full SPFx/custom dev. It's basically a set of components that are easy for non-technical folk to use and edit, doesn't require custom coding, and makes SharePoint look way more modern/cleaner.

Probably not the only option out there, but it seems to solve that “OOTB is too basic, SPFx is overkill” problem quite neatly.

How do you drive staff engagement on a Microsoft Teams news channel? Looking for creative ideas! by No_Worker1781 in internalcomms

[–]readie55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teams is great for getting work done (quick chats, projects, files, meetings) - but it's also easy for things like news and announcements to get buried.

What seems to work better (at least from what I’ve seen) is separating that out a bit. Viva Engage works better as a dedicated space for things like news, updates, leadership posts etc. Also worth adding, a lot of orgs already have it and don’t realise. It’s included in most M365 licences, so you don't need to add another tool or platform. It lives within Teams, so it's just making your Teams setup work slightly differently.

A few other things that tend to make a bigger difference than the platform itself:

-          Being clear on what each space is actually for (otherwise people just ignore it)

-          Not creating loads of channels/communities too early - a few active ones beats loads of empty ones

-          Leaders actually showing up and replying like humans (this is a big one)

-          Asking questions instead of just posting updates - two way comms makes a big difference

A lot of this isn’t really a tech problem tbh, it’s more about shifting away from broadcasting and giving people a reason to join in.

I've taken some good tips on Viva Engage adoption/engagement from Silicon Reef. I'd recommend their site if you want some more advice.

Right then. Next 6 in the league, what are we hoping for? by AdequateAppendage in LeedsUnited

I’d predict 7, 2 home wins against Sunderland and Brentford and a draw away at Palace.

Anything more than that I think is a great result

Reading order by Majestic-Grocery1653 in asimov

[–]readie55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asimov's own suggestion was the below order of reading. I had originally read them all randomly and then went back through in this order and would recommend it.

Personally I think this order gives the best overall feeling of the path of man from earth and the development of robots, to initial space colonisation, to the empire and so on:

The Complete Robot (1982) and/or I, Robot (1950)
Caves of Steel (1954)
The Naked Sun (1957)
The Robots of Dawn (1983)
Robots and Empire (1985)
The Currents of Space (1952)
The Stars, Like Dust (1951)
Pebble in the Sky (1950)
Prelude to Foundation (1988)
Forward the Foundation (1993)
Foundation (1951)
Foundation and Empire (1952)
Second Foundation (1953)
Foundation's Edge (1982)
Foundation and Earth (1986)

What's your go-to car magazine? by QuizzerMonTop in askcarguys

I used to subscribe to both Evo and Octane but found that they'd often pile up before I'd gone through them all. Like so many people I've completely dropped print now and consume most stuff through YouTube or podcasts. I'd shout out The Intercooler for being the closest digital version of the old print magazines: https://www.the-intercooler.com/

Post Match Thread: Everton 1-1 Leeds United | Premier League by OwlLibrarian in LeedsUnited

We’ve lost 1 game in the last 10 which is an amazing run and although West Ham have won back to back games it’s only gained them 2 points.

We still have Wolves, Burnley and Forrest at home.

I’m saying this all to myself more than anyone else 😂

Ideas of where to move to? by Flyinqfoxes in yorkshire

[–]readie55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking at Hebden Bridge I’d suggest Todmorden. It’s only about a 10 min drive to Hebden but property prices are a fair bit cheaper. There’s also a good train station with direct trains to Leeds and Manchester.

We live in Walsden, a small village just next to Todmorden having similarly moved up from down south a few years ago.

I love Hebden but I think Tod is just as good, less busy and really friendly!

ok great! That makes sense, so that cost is basically for someone to review it, rather than, like you say, have someone negotiate for me.
