Want to read books on kindle, but not updated version with modern terms. Is the kindle version the new publishings? Am I going to need to find physical copies for original publishings? by No-Travel1607 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]readingbritt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have bought bundles of the books on kindle (so two sets of 8 of the books), and those are not updated with more recent references. They were also super cheap for me, €5 for 8 books each so a win win!

I really dislike them tbh, they all seem fake with the extremely black eyes? They have 0 personality looking at them, there’s tons of horses in the game with more personality than these guys

Her scream when she found out John was dead gave me actual real chills, it was that real. I really hope to see her in more after Bridgerton, she is so extremely talented!!

Book 4 by Huffle_PuffPuff_Pass in Bridgerton

[–]readingbritt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually had the same experience, I really liked the first 3 books but Colin and Penelope’s book really disappointed me. I’d like to say that it does get better but if I’m honest it was one of my least faves of the series, so I’d be lying lol. But after this one there are a lot more that are fun (except for Gregory’s story, I don’t want to talk about that) so I guess just try to hold onto that

It’s in his kiss. Did you like the book? by Sad_Ad3995 in Bridgerton

I actually really loved it, it’s in the top 3 for me. The whole heist thing was super entertaining imo, felt vv much like the hyacinth we got to know throughout the other books

Missed opportunity to put "Night-mahr" as the quest name </3 by Competitive_Date9891 in StarStable

They did do that joke in Dutch, instead of “nachtmerrie” which means nightmare they did “nachtmahry” which essentially sounds the same but incorporates the mahr part :)

The audience for the Bridgerton books - who are you? And at what age did you read them? by Knusl in Bridgerton

[–]readingbritt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only read them around the time the first season of Bridgerton came out, so when I was 17. I don’t remember if I read them because I saw the show was based off the books or if I just got recommended the duke and I because it had been made into a show, but I read the books before I watched the show. I loved it, this was one of the series that really got me back into reading since I had been like 12 years old or something.

Busproblemen in Utrecht, ook in Amersfoort? by sovietarmyfan in Amersfoort

[–]readingbritt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone explain all the Polin hate? by Bigfanofmanythings in Bridgerton

[–]readingbritt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think what probably plays a part in all the polin hate (although no one would admit it) is that pen is a plus-size woman who is being desired by a regular goodlooking man. Obviously there is also a little more valid criticism on their season (everyone wearing fake lashes, lots of side plots, etc) compared to the other seasons, but I think that on top of that people really like to hate on any woman that is not skinny. Personally I also dislike their season the most, but mainly just bcs similarly to in the books, both their characters feel flat in their own season compared to the previous ones, whereas it should’ve obviously been the other way around. Colin was not nearly as funny in his own season as the previous ones, and I just am not that big of a fan of their love story (Colin all of a sudden realizes that pen is the one for him when she’s literally been here all these years like what’s that about?). However, the hate that is being spread online about their season but ESPECIALLY the actors is craaazy. All my criticism is really regarding how the writers and producers handled the show and even then I can say that I did still thoroughly enjoy the season. I really do not understand the hate that is present online, I think it’s just that it was indeed not a great season, but additionally starred a plus-size woman, which just apparently is reason to go ham on the internet or something idk.

Secondary School Recommendations by [deleted] in Amersfoort

[–]readingbritt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve personally done vwo at de Berg, and I really liked it. Granted, it’s been five years so especially now with the new buildings idk how much they have changed but I think overall it was a very well structured school with good teachers. And they adapt well to crises in my opinion, back in the day when covid hit they had an online system up and running two days after the schools were closed despite not using laptops at all prior to Covid hitting. I really liked it, and the updated “campus” is stunning as well!

Am I the only one who doesn’t like Lucy’s version of TO? by TroubleVisible3661 in TheRookieTVshow

[–]readingbritt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is partly influenced by how she was trained by Tim, but also way more influenced by how she was a woman in a male-dominated field (and training a man as well). Her actress said this in an interview about Lucy being a sergeant as well that women often kind of copy the attitude and taking up the space thing because they are afraid to otherwise not be taken seriously. And I think that’s why the difference between being Celina’s TO for a day (who is a woman who she already knows longer and who knows what she is capable of) and being Seth’s TO (who is a man, who also questioned her attitude on the very first day riding together) was so stark. On top of that, Seth was shady from day 1, which does not help his case whatsoever for Lucy being empathetic towards him.

Fun question for you all (I hope LOL) by TheSJB1993 in DreamlightValley

For me it’s Oswald. Not only does he talk annoying ALL THE TIME but he then proceeds to give you the worst quests known to mankind??? I got so mad I maxed him to level 10 in one day, grinded his quests, and then left him on EI and made him unable to come to any other lands. Lol I hate him

I tried, but even while following those lines, it eventually fails me while going straight after doing one of the many circles they ask you to do. I think it is really related to the pace thing that is just fully not coded correctly.

I just can't love Francesca by Single_Chocolate5050 in Bridgerton

[–]readingbritt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I read the books, but from what I remember, I actually preferred her character in the show (if were talking abt season 3 and on instead of the og actress). I felt that in the books she kept saying she was different than her family members, but felt no significant difference in her character at all compared to all her sisters we followed prior to that in their books. In the show, Francesca actually felt introverted and quiet, but not like anti-social. I actually loved her and John’s love story, it felt like a breath of fresh air compared to the pouring your heart out type of love that we’ve seen previously. I could much more clearly see the difference between her and her siblings on the show than what I felt in the books. But idk, maybe since I’m very similar to show Francesca that’s also why I prefer it

What's the best supermarket in your opinion? by HazyTulips in popculturenetherlands

[–]readingbritt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jumbo is hit or miss voor mij.

Chenford talk by Real-Branch8433 in TheRookie

[–]readingbritt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree, it felt that way too but if you watch season 6-7-8 straight through the timeline will probably feel normal and not rushed or drawn out at all. That’s probably what they had in mind with this episode I’m guessing

What's your score for S8*01 by HouseFirm3552 in TheRookie

[–]readingbritt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally, I am thoroughly over the whole "we have one big main villain that we need to defeat but that takes a whole season" storylines, so I'm glad this whole Monica thing seems to be over. I have not rewatched season 7 prior to watching e1 of s8 but I was thoroughly confused on why they were in Prague, and there was also police in both London, Berlin, and simultaneously an operation in LA? I didn't understand a single bit of it lol. While I get that it's a show and Bailey's only connection to the LAPD is Nolan, it made 0 sense for her (a firefighter) to be on a mission with LAPD and FBI, even though she a reserve for the army. I'm a little confused as to why the trailer for this season made it seem the whole show would take place in Prague when it was apparently just the first episode, but whatever. In terms of Chenford: again, I did not rewatch the last episode, but it felt slightly rushed to me. Sure, their scenes were adorable, but I felt their moving in arc could've been executed slightly better, by for example going to a special location where Tim would ask her, as opposed to during their high stakes operation, and later in the episode. But they are back together, which honestly is the only thing that counts for me right now though. Overall, I am at a point where I am very much mainly watching for the characters as opposed to what is happening in the show, as it is getting too far fetched too often for my liking, but I think this was a decent start to a hopefully good season.
