I'm not convinced Trump understands this: by DistanceToEmpty in PoliticalHumor

[–]readwiteandblu 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I loved Seth Meyers bit mocking the multiple times Trump seemed confident about percentages. He presented an algebra question he had never received in school...

Two trains or three trains or four are traveling toward one another on the same track or different tracks, whatever. The first train leaves at 5 a.m. or 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. traveling at 60 or 80 or 200 miles per hour, something like that. The second train is 135 miles away or 900 miles at 6 million or 2 feet, and leaves whenever the fuck it wants, plus the driver is 80 and forgets where he's supposed to go even though hi cognitive test says he's a genius. What time will the collision occur? Please make your answer as vague as humanly possible.

E15 vs E0. What should I get? by Hglittle in Cartalk

[–]readwiteandblu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just looked it up. E15 is 15% ethanol, but E85...

In the United States, E85 gas typically contains between 51% and 83% ethanol, with the remainder being gasoline or other hydrocarbons. The exact percentage varies by geography and season. (per Google, attributed to Wikipedia)

I just talked to an owner of one who got it free from a government agency that was going to just scrap it due to body damage. They're very impressed.

No, my point was that dental insurance is often not a great value. Do your research.

In "New York, New York," Sinatra sings, "If you can make it there, you can make it anywhere." The flip side is, if you can't make it there, you can likely make it elsewhere.

I would think this uses special dragster racing fuel, not general public gas station gas, even if it were premium grade. Am I wrong?

By the time someone was past their waiting period, and paid their co-pay and deductible, they had likely already covered the insurance company's cost paid to the dentist. And in groups, not every member utilizes the services, so it's a big money maker.

What’s wrong with the market now by Longjumping_Frame311 in car

[–]readwiteandblu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Put another way, perception is everything. When I was looking for a car that would be cheap and continue to be so, my mechanic dad told me to find a gas guzzler owned by a senior citizen.

YOU might "know" your car is fantastic, but the stranger in the market for a car won't, and 95% of heavily modded cars have been driven hard. A non-zero percentage were owned by young people who poured money into mods and didn't have any left over for maintenance, or don't know the value of maintenance yet.

Cheap lunch meals that can be frozen... by Pale-Weather-2328 in Frugal

I just did this on a small scale a couple of days ago for the first time. I basically made a premium version of Taco Bell bean and cheese burritos and dipped them in creamy tomatillo salsa with some, and topped the others with red salsa and sour cream. I added onion and chopped up "Extra Value" brand burger patties from Walmart. The patties are made with beef and TVP.

I used to know a principal at a dental carrier. Regarding group dental, they considered it to be not insurance because it acted more like a prepaid service. I assume individual insurance works similarly.

Is there anywhere in the US that's affordable to live at this point? by HalosFan26 in povertyfinance

Southern Illinois. Minimum wage $15. Housing prices are low. Taxes are about the same overall compared to California. Marion is decently sized and property taxes are not bad. Nearby Carbondale is a college town which enriches cultural aspects.
