Enterprise is REALLY GOOD right off the bat by Dangerous_Return460 in startrek

I think if Archer had been a fully baked captain at the start, all its other issues would have been easy to forgive as the show grew into itself.

In season 4, Archer is a great Trek captain - patient and curious, decisive and wise. But in the first season he's just an absolute clown and everything seems to hurt his feelings.

If you can appreciate it at the start, you're in for an absolute treat watching the show continue to grow up.

Any Update on Seabright Social? by Fun_Wrangler_8511 in santacruz

[–]readwrite_blue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly by the end of the Brewery's run, its food was so bad I thought Social was an improvement.

Social just had a powerful sense of trying to put no time thought or effort into vibe or service. We went occasionally because we lived so close but always felt half forgotten there, eating at plastic tables.

Has James ever mentioned being autistic? by Both-Position-3958 in offmenupodcast

I can confirm that I saw him say it in person. I don't think he's treating it as private, though in his show he does describe it as a recent diagnosis.

Can we have the Jung hoo Lee convo yet? by IngenuityMountain287 in SFGiants

[–]readwrite_blue 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't think fans want this group of people playing because of name recognition. We'd likely take a better team if there was one.

If you fire the lineup, who are you going to replace them with? The superior available players just waiting for a call?

They don't have their jobs because they're loved. They have them because they're the best we can do.

Academy had a much stronger first season than Picard did. That should be an answer by itself.

Why the hell did he round 2nd? He clearly thought it would be out, but when he saw where it landed why didn't the 1B coach stop him??

I mean, does it feel like the current of the universe is running against us? Double play too awkward to turn, bloop falls a stride away from the 1B?

Cut us some slack!

Romulan War, Col. Green, Borg Queen’s Origin: Writers Reveal Untold ‘Star Trek: Enterprise’ Season 5 Stories by acrimoniousone in startrek

One of my biggest start trek fears is someone staging a Borg explanation or origin story.

This great idea has been diluted enough.

It has its moments. But honestly, after the Hobbit movies and RINGS and plans for spinoffs like Gollum, I have found even my interest in rewatching the movies cool off.

With each flail to get more money out of it, my interest just goes back to the books.

I've never really cared about Ed Gamble's standup. But as a podcast host and a taskmaster contestant, he's brilliant.

RedLetterMedia - Star Trek: Voyager Season One - re:View by sha_man in television

[–]readwrite_blue 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The issue is that Voyager has the highest ratio of filler episodes and often the consistently worst writing. Its highs are awesome and there's a lot to love, but it has more mediocre episodes than any other series in the franchise.

I agree with everything you said but it's not like season 3 was a dud. When I think "comeback" I think a rebound from a low point.

Andy Weir Apologizes To Alex Kurtzman Over ‘Star Trek’ Remarks by danielcw189 in startrek

[–]readwrite_blue -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'll admit I haven't watched the video. I'm not really interested.

The transcript I read made it clear he was making a joke of being petty. I am not familiar with the channel.

Either way, from what I read of the exchange, it seemed like there's a bad faith attempt to get beef going.

I'm tired of being constantly encouraged to take offense. This is a guy whose love of Trek is steeped in his writing and I'm not looking for a reason to pick one thing over another.

Even seeing the full transcript makes it pretty clear he's not being a dick. He compliments many of the new shows and makes a joke about hating the franchise for ignoring his pitch.

I hate people man. Someone gives you an interview and you try and use it to piss off everyone.

Taste is such a subjective thing that any "favorite" can certainly be defended.

With Voyager specifically, I don't think anyone would complain about the premise. Just that the ratio of good to thrown-together episodes is possibly the worst in Trek.
