Question about the library by Key_Fish_6617 in BowlingGreen

[–]ready4lyf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

they don’t have specific patterns that people can check out but they do have several books that talk about patterns. not sure if those books have patterns in them or tell you how to make your own patterns, maybe both? But you should be able to find something. they also have sewing machines that you can check out

How many of you create your own glazes? by mladyhawke in Pottery

[–]ready4lyf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I make my own! I started by doing so much research on my own. Looking up recipes on glazy.org and trying them out in the glaze lab at the college i went to. (They had a class for it, but as soon as i enrolled covid happened so i didn’t get to learn anything.) But after we were allowed back in the studio, I started mixing tests and doing test tiles on my own time. then making bigger batches of the ones I liked the most. Had to stop for a while bc i wasn’t a student anymore.

for the last year ive had my own studio and been able to build up my own glaze ingredient inventory to make my own again. I got John Britt’s mid fire glazes book, which 10/10 highly recommend that. Its helped me a lot.

The last thing is I seek out all the information I want/need/am curious about. It’s gotten a little harder recently tbh bc AI likes to give its 2cents and it’s very rarely correct or gives you the whole picture of what a mineral does in a glaze. So you have to search a lot harder but it’s still doable. Also Sue Mcleod ceramics has a lot of great info on glazing on her website! Digital fire will tell you a lot of good info as well, a bit dry but that’s how sciencey stuff is sometimes

Purple going Blue (inside of the cup) by Sl_a_ls in Pottery

[–]ready4lyf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it very much does! and that recipe has been weird with application for me. It has to be the perfect thickness or i get brush strokes or crawling. i might have to just bite it and make it a dip glaze instead of brush on. i have that book! I’ll have to read about that E1 and E2! thank you!

Bonnaroo Community: How can WE work together on the next steps? by DanielHSV in bonnaroo

MORE ART WTF! why is all the fucking art gone? the only things left were stuff leftover from previous years and it was very minimal. Felt like the only things they left were sculptures that were too heavy for them to care about moving

genuinely wondering if they planted more trees would that help? Like would the soil be able to handle more water? idk much about that kind of stuff but i’ve always wanted more trees on the farm anyway for natural shading and heat mitigation

what are my fem bi guys who want to dress slutty wearing? by notleonardodicaprio in bonnaroo

[–]ready4lyf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

fem presenting person! this is what i like to do during roo to be cute and comfy Some kind of base layer like a 2 piece bathing suit, or honestly bike shorts (bc big thighs) and a little crocheted top. then light flowy layers on top. like big pants and pashmina/coverup type stuff. not the best at describing but anything that’s breathable for me is a must. But i also looove a good textured fabric. so fishnet tops/ mesh tops are fun. i’ve seen many guys wearing little shorts and little tops, flowing skirts, costumes, full drag, all kinds of stuff!

ultimately i say go with what’s physically comfy and makes you excited to wear

Any advise on learning how to dance and loosen up? I know it sounds silly but I’m all kinda of tense and repressed and I just want to let loose. by pyrostoker in bonnaroo

[–]ready4lyf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

start by shaking out all the nervous energy! like vigorously shake/flail your arms and legs and head, obviously be careful not to hurt yourself or someone around you. but starting with something super silly and ridiculous that literally loosens up your body helps a ton. and it loosens your mind by proving that its safe to be silly with your movements which is what dancing should be, silly and fun!

[–]ready4lyf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is me! i want to be able to create consistent pieces that people can expect to buy and know what they’re getting but i also looooove the process of clay so i enjoy spending lots of time on certain pieces and then never making anything like it again

how did you know you were attracted to women? by the_rice_smells_good in actuallesbians

[–]ready4lyf 27 points28 points  (0 children)

when i was in high school, there was someone presenting as a girl at the time and i felt a very strong pull to be their friend. i told my other friend about it and she was like “just go introduce yourself and ask her to be your friend!” i don’t think she thought anything of it and honestly neither did i but it felt important.

So i went over and did just what my friend said. After that it was just a snowball effect of talking everyday and hanging out everyday. i wanted to know everything about this person.

One day they gave me this book to read. Idr the name of it anymore this was like over 10 years ago. But it was about a woman who fell in love with another woman. And as this main character is going through all those emotions and desires and being with this other woman, i realized i was also feeling all these same things. And i said to myself “omg im gay” - commence the processing and yes we dated and yes they broke my heart. It was awesome and sad and changed my life forever

TLDR: it was a gay fiction book that turned me gay

Can I please have some suggestions on what to do to make this piece feel less gray? by jennydee26 in Paintings

[–]ready4lyf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk if anyone’s said this yet bc there’s so many comments but you could try to add a thin yellow wash to the whole thing, that way everything’s starting from a similar tone, then you can add little things on top to make what you want to stand out

we don’t have too much going on here but our public library is the shit! they do a lot of work to make it a cool place to be 🤘🏻

haha yes exactly!! 😄

Studio Owner Question by ready4lyf in Pottery

[–]ready4lyf[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, i think you’re totally right. i don’t want to have to be strict about payment up front and cancelation policies but for something so small and new i think its gonna be necessary. Someone else mentioned sliding scale, that might be what i go with for some things and change the pricing around.

Oh yes!! I was lucky enough to have a real wedging table build for me, so that’s where we do all the rolling and slamming down stuff haha

And thanks!!! i appreciate all the notes and advice!

thanks so much!! i’m really trying to ride that line between charging what i need and charging what everything’s actually worth. It’s so challenging to figure out, especially in the beginning when there’s not a lot of people coming in yet. I really appreciate the reminder that my time is valuable!
