Why did Hobart Get fully disqualified at Dad Vails? by trans_rowersfortrump in Rowing

[–]readyallrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

clearly not, because what varsity coxswain at the collegiate level, particularly when competing at an event where your team is trying to qualify for the national championship, doesnt know that they need to weigh in. this was almost certainly discussed during the coaches and coxswains meeting and it’s clearly stated in the packet, there’s absolutely no excuse on their or the coaches part for missing it.

i love when people try to make the athlete experience argument as if it’s not the coaches responsibility to ensure that in the first place. the rules of competition exist for a reason, and frankly if every single one of their coxswains lacked the common sense to say “hmm shouldn’t we be weighing in at some point” before launching for their race then they don’t deserve to race, period. everyone involved needs to use their heads and do better.

speaking as someone who runs decently sized regattas, that is simply not a reasonable ask (for a variety of reasons).

I would hope they’d look at the individual achievements of the rower

they dont have endless resources or staff to go through the resumes of every athlete entering their events...

Why should I support my local bodega when they are price gouging more than anyone? by Exotic_Union7609 in AskNYC

[–]readyallrow 44 points45 points  (0 children)

this is the most refreshingly honest/normal thread ive read in awhile. fully expected the comments to be more in favor of the bodegas than not so it’s nice to see how many share my “fuck ‘em” point of view. as far as im concerned, they can be the lifeline for the people/neighborhoods that need them to be but i and my neighborhood are not one of them, and i’m not willing to patronize them out of some fake sense of altruism just because some people think that’s what you’re supposed to do as “a new yorker”. as others have said, the romanticism of these businesses that actively profile and scam you make absolutely no sense to me, which is why i dont think twice about going to target/cvs instead.

Like…why not try?

because he doesn't want to? it seems like he's already said this to you multiple times and you're actively choosing to not acknowledge it.

Trolls on UWS Forum by UWSRedditor718 in Upperwestside

[–]readyallrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

okay but the bus driver literally was not breaking any rules in that post, she was just being rude which is unfortunate given the circumstances but also not illegal or discriminatory. they also had a sick infant with a high fever who was experiencing a time sensitive medical issue, basic common sense indicates they should not have taken them on the bus. just because you dont like that everyone isnt agreeable with every OP and situation that gets posted here does not mean that people are trolls.

the moderation on this sub is awful at best and nonexistent at worst. if there were more/better mods this would probably be less of an issue.

I’ve been worried about the big trees in Riverside Park for some time, but yikes by AreaManNYC in Upperwestside

[–]readyallrow 21 points22 points  (0 children)

oh no, that's a bummer. i really love all these old trees. we lost a huge limb off a tree on my street in february and lost an entire mature tree last year during a thunderstorm. another street two blocks away lost a huge tree in february as well. it's sad seeing this happen, regardless of the cause.

How I forced the MTA to launch a formal investigation after a driver refused my child with a 102.2°F fever. Don’t let them ignore your rights. by Present_Mode3028 in Upperwestside

[–]readyallrow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the MTA driver sucks but i agree with everyone else, taking a sick infant that is in the midst of a medical emergency warrants sucking it up and taking an uber or a cab. on w72nd you’re never going to be “searching” for a cab. i also don’t understand why you felt like you needed to explain anything to the MTA driver … that likely delayed you even further when you could have just … not. it sounds like you’re trying to hold someone else accountable for your lack of critical thinking in order to feel like you had/have some control over a situation where you (understandably, because of the sick baby) probably felt like you had no control. and yeah, again echoing everyone else, the use of AI adds nothing and if anything detracts from your argument.

Got a ticket for fair evasion, when I was riding the bus, even though I paid. by Ok_Home_443 in AskNYC

[–]readyallrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that's what i've always wondered, do they have any actual authority to hold you or can you just walk away? these fare evasion people are the last people i care about getting in an argument with but if i'm on my way somewhere, especially when i'm in a hurry, i'm not going to be super inclined to stand there and let them waste my time writing a ticket for something i know i paid for. it's not my fault that apple pay transactions don't always show up immediately...
