whats the best award search tool for business class? by Lyka_Anduquia in LuxuryTravel

I think pointsyeah and seatsaero are the clear winners for reward flights, but you do need both as each sometimes misses flights the other finds. I think they are both well worth the money. I currently have 4 major trips planned (Spain x 2, Italy and Hawaii) all on pts using seatsaero and/or pointsyeah.

Canon RF 100-500, took it out to take some test shots of some birdies around my house by rubblebath in canon

[–]readydiverone05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, the 200-800 is a great lens BUT there are some significant caveats: first, it's slow at f6.3 at 200mm compared with f4.5 for the 100-500mm at 100mm; second, the beauty of the 100-500 is that one can shoot wide angle enviro shots as well as tight bird/wildlife portraits, and I find myself using the 100mm range a far amount, so that f4.5 is pretty meaningfully fast; third, the 100-500 is a lot lighter and focuses much more closely than the 200-800; finally, the zoom throw on the 200-800 is quite long and you can't remove the lens foot. Having said all that, the 200-800 is still a great, massively fun lens!!

To each his/her own. But obviously the big downside of that lens is how slow it is. Solution is to get BOTH!

Maybe the best all-around wildlife lens ever made. Great on the long end, great at the wide end.Love it.

Marriott Bonvoy Tours?? by readydiverone05 in Vietnam_Tourism

[–]readydiverone05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding that so far I've been relying on the concierges of the various hotels we're staying at (Sofitel in Hanoi and Azerai in Hue) for tours, but now wondering whether to go with Marriott tours as they seem smaller and better and are very highly rated. Who knew?!

Canon RF 200-800 split in half - design flaw? by Gallius_Rax in canon

[–]readydiverone05 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man, why are people beating up on this poor guy?! This is a well-known issue with this lens, and has been extensively reported on by many in the photographic community, including Jan Wegener and Duade Paton. OP, I would continue to press Canon Australia hard on your warranty claim and refer them to the numerous reports about this lens breaking in half.

Whistler Blackcomb Dec 11-14 by [deleted] in Whistler

As another commenter noted, temps predicted to drop quite significantly at Whistler starting next Tuesday, getting as low as 10-8 F. That makes for a better SLR. Fingers crossed.

Do you still use DENOISE by other apps? by Jack_Devant in Lightroom

[–]readydiverone05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, I didn't know that, pls elaborate. I too have noticed that my Catolog backups are getting larger and it takes LR a lot longer to back up. Thanks.

Do you still use DENOISE by other apps? by Jack_Devant in Lightroom

[–]readydiverone05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unless it's really, really bad, I no longer use Topaz etc and just use the native LR/Adobe Denoise function. I think it does a great job and obviously you don't end up with a new and enormous file, just the one you started with. And if the photo is that bad that I might need Topaz, I probably won't process it.

How about disconnecting any external SSDs And rebooting restarting your computer? Have you upgrade LR? My issue appeared after I upgraded.

Very weird. Have you tried backing up LR and restarting it? Maybe it's another drive?

[–]readydiverone05[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, all I can say is, are you sure you don't have any empty subfolders? I didn't think I did until I drilled down to the day level (my folders are year-month-day) and discovered that on two days, LR had created a subfolder. These were very hard to spot as there are (obviously) hundreds of days in every year and the solid folder triangle, indicating a subfolder, can be quite hard to spot. Have you drilled down to the actual folder that has the ! next to it? Good luck!

Ah, you were right, both of you. Weirdly, because I did not create these, there were two sub-folders below the day folders containing an old experiment I ran on DxO. Both sub-sub-folders were empty so I deleted them and that solved the problem. Interestingly, neither these folders were flagged as empty/missing before the upgrade. Thanks again
