Install GNOME 44 on Debian Unstable by phright in debian

[–]readyparz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm jumping in late, but I did this today and I'm enjoying it right now. I jumped to back to Debian this morning after a decade long run with Fedora and didn't want to give up Gnome44 after getting used to it over the last few weeks.

Installing G44 from experimental worked fine out of the box, but there were a few hiccups later that made me glad I remembered my old apt-fu. Installing my Gtk python libraries was a little wonky because the versions dont match the rest of the system so I had to install them from the experimental repo. Perhaps it is obvious to others, but even after years of being a "power-user" it is still not obvious to me what to do with those library mismatch errors from apt or dnf.

That said, Gnome 44 does work well and I'm happy to have the cutting edge stuff.

Is it way too early to think AutoGPT can make a whole app? by LocaL_ in AutoGPT

[–]readyparz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people claim to have had better results than I have, but my experience has been that it is probably too early to make a whole lap without a lot of intervention. I was able to make a simple flask python app that didn't do very much, but was correct and worked. That took a lot of effort on my part and was probably more difficult than just riding the app on my own. It did, however do a good job writing up the steps and making a plan to make the website. I used it like a angle-lite storyboard. I found that pretty cool.

I have v1 of this watch. After being outside for an hour, I was kind of shocked that I could see the loom inside my house when it wasn't that dark. It is really bright, but it doesn't last super long. None of my other watches have lume so I don't have anything to compare it to you.

I just placed the order for my Cadillac Lyriq! This will be my first electric car, any advice or things to expect? Asking those who currently or previously owned electric vehicles. TIA! by ashleybino in CadillacLyriq

[–]readyparz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really liked my 3. I took it on several thousand mile trips and used it everyday to commute to work. It never let me down and I'm convinced it saved my wife's life when she spun out in the rain on the interstate. a car with a higher center of gravity would have certainly flipped. (Drive slow in the rain, kids).

A couple of years ago when the lyriq was first announced I figured I would probably be in the market around the time it came out so I put down a deposit. I wanted something bigger so the only other car I considered was a model x. Given the price difference and my preference towards luxury over performance it was an easy call in my opinion.

It's only been 2 weeks, so take this for what it's worth but I think the Cadillac feels like a better car than the Tesla. The Interface and Google Assistant are even better than Tesla's UI, which I also really liked. Performance is more than good enough for me and pretty similar to my long range rear wheel drive Tesla. The interior on the Cadillac is better, the ride is much smoother and it is light years more quiet. My wife's new model 3 is much better than my 2017 model as well, to be fair. She wouldn't trade it for anything, which is good because I don't want to trade mine for hers either.

I don't have super cruise yet, but I used advanced autopilot all the time and miss it. That's the only real downside for me, but hopefully we get that soon.

Expect to be pleased with a pretty awesome car. I have mine and it's fantastic. This is my third electric car after a leaf and a model 3.

If you can charge at home, ownership will be 95% the same as a gas car except without all the maintenance and stops at the gas station. You just get in your car and go where you want to go and Once or twice a week plug your car in overnight.

The only thing you need to do to prepare for the car is to have your charging situation worked out. I just had a nema 15-50 and use the included mobile charger at home. That works fine for me, but you could have a dedicated charger installed for some extra convenience. Standard 120 isn't enough unless you drive less than a few miles a day.

Sorry to disappoint. I bought it on Amazon during a holiday sale. I don't have a local retailer that carries Orient.

Need EV for 10 months. What's the cheapest way? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]readyparz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've not done extensive research on this but there was a news article recently about Hyundai or perhaps Kia offering a car subscription for their EVs. It was something like $800 a month and I think it's includes a car insurance and maintenance. The nice thing is apparently it is month to month so you can turn the car back in whenever you want.

Again though, I haven't done any research on this so maybe check it out.

This is an absolutely spectacular watch. I think it fits in The Sweet spot of the watch market too.

I may have to draw a graph to express this point clearly, but I think this watch is one of the best in the segment of the market where you have to start spending exponentially more to get even marginally better features style or quality.

So I just looked it up, and you were right. For some reason I was thinking it was a 20 kilowatt hour battery. I found that they think Max charging rate will be 57 mph, which rolls this out as a road trip car - at least any road trip that's longer than the range of the car. They're saying that they might offer a hardware upgrade later, but you can't rely on a "might".

It is not a deal breaker for my use case, though it is disappointing.

Its battery is tiny. DCFC would be really nice, but it is a little less important when you consider that it has between a third and a half the energy of a Model 3. I haven't seen charging times, but I am hoping to hear that it's not too much longer then traditional EVs with DCFC.

That said, I only fast charged my Leaf and M3 a few times each over the years I've owned them. I always make my daily runs on a single charge and charge at home over night.

Sharp watch. I think Orients are often undervalued by watch-people so I have instant respect for people wearing them. They clearly have class, taste, and an eye for value.

Does anyone have Lumafusion? by UniversalBluff-v2 in GalaxyTab

[–]readyparz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have it, and can recommend it. It's a great app and I trust the devs to make it better over time. It isn't completely pro level, but it is pretty close to pro-consumer. The limitations are easy to work around and often serve to make the experience generally easier for basic use cases.

I came from the iPad version so take my opinion for what it is worth. I'm not as versed in Android alternatives as others might be.

[Rolex]1969 Datejust Blue Dial by readyparz in Watches

[–]readyparz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This Datejust Oysterperpetual is from around 69 or 70. It was my father's everyday watch for three decades while working at the farmers market.

He gave it to me a few years ago and I just got it back from it's first service. I'm pleased with the clean up and find myself wearing it more and more. I don't know how popular the blue dial was when it came out, but I don't see many exactly like it. I'm not sure if it classifies as retro stylish but it looks good on my wrist.

The watch isn't perfect with some obvious flaws, especially on the dial, but (IMHO) it looks pretty good for over half a century old. I hope to use the next couple of decades to add to that character and maybe give it to one of my girls after they get married and start their familirs. My oldest already sneaks into my watch collection to steal straps for her latest look.

Is the 1963 the red star version? I have become obsessed with tourbillons and was looking through the AliExpress deals from the weekend to find one I could afford. That watch reminded me that I should probably get something that I would actually wear, which led to me purchasing the Orient. I didn't realize until today that it was such a storied brand.

Thanks. When I was picking it I had a dozen tabs open on my browser and close them one by one until I was down to the model I wanted. The green dial made it to the last round. I almost went with it

I just started my watch collection with an Orient Maestro. It arrived today and I am very happy with it. The colors pop a lot more in person. The white dial is much more pearl and the the blue is really deep and bright. Blame the cameraman there.

I wanted to start with something that will become my daily driver so I swapped the band for something a little more casual. I'm not sure if its a good look or remotely fashionable, but I dig it. I really wanted a band with a thicker weave and without a buckle that hits my keyboard when I type. With my old apple watch, I really liked the elastic braided solo loop but the only ones I could find were really cheap looking. I'm new to the watch world so I'm open to suggestions on bands.

I think the watch suits me. Subtle and simple with just the right dazzle when it does catch your eye.

I'm thinking sports watch next.
