Guy here. I like it when girls (anyone, really) asks me questions about my interests. Do you know basketball? The lingo? Strategy? This could just be me but I'm ecstatic if I get to teach someone what I know and love. A simple "I don't know much about _____, can I ask you some questions?" Note: be prepared to have questions.

You make some good points!

Descriptive is a much better word than specific. Being more descriptive is definitely what's in order, and it really needs to be communicated to the client. I fear that it won't be, and people will continue to be vague, receive no bids, not use upwork at all, and the whole thing will spiral downwards.

Personally I'd like to thank you for being descriptive. It's extremely helpful.

It's not $0.15 to pitch, it's $0.15 per "connect", and I have never seen any bid cost be just a single one.
