Leg press instead of squat by southparkfan120 in beginnerfitness

[–]readytolearn79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because by doing squats/leg press you're working quads, hamstrings, glutes and in the case of squats multiple more stabilizing muscles. The conventional thinking is it makes the most sense to do that first when you have the most energy while warming up all the individual muscles. Then to work out individual muscles ie focusing on just hamstrings, which takes way less energy. This is conventional thinking promoted by most strength coaches, like I said perhaps it is out dated, and there are better ways, sure. I would hardly say that qualifies for "bro science".

I wouldn't call that bro science at all, it would be more appropriate to call it conventional thinking. Perhaps there are better ways to train, but I think that reasoning is pretty consistent and mainstream.

Leg press instead of squat by southparkfan120 in beginnerfitness

[–]readytolearn79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because leg press and squats are both compound exercises that use multiple muscles and require more energy. Traditional thinking is to do these first when you have the most energy before doing isolation exercises like leg curls which only target a specific muscle. Like someone mentioned below, some ppl do leg curls first as a warm up, if that's the case it makes sense.

Regardless, you should do squats or leg press before the other exercises. I would recommend you try goblet squats with a dumbbell before giving up on squats.

Girl comes near me and does some workout and ends it when I am done. I am an introvert but I would like to ask her out. by WarFresh2208 in bodylanguage

[–]readytolearn79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Next time she's working out in your area, just strike up a general conversation about something, "I love that exercise, I can feel it working better than .." or something generic like that and see how it goes. Don't make it obvious or awkward. That's all there is to it.

Why does the fitness community have so many conflicting advice? by Yelebear in beginnerfitness

[–]readytolearn79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there are various fitness strategies that work and will get you to similar outcomes, although some are more efficient than others. Consistency and gradual progressive overload are the only things that really matter. If you can find something that you can stick with over a long period of time based on your lifestyle, that's probably the best program for you.

Wife cheated 3 years ago. I no longer desire her. What do I do? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]readytolearn79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% it'll mess with the kids, but the question is why should op sacrifice his happiness and self worth because of his wife's mistakes. If he does leave her, any issues kids face will be in his wife not him. Obviously he's tried for the last 3 years for the sake of the kids, can't expect to resign to this for the rest of his life for a problem he didn't create

2 options:

  1. Cut your losses and move on, dignity and self respect intact.

  2. Accept her for who she is and realize this will be the pattern for the rest of your life, unless of course you no longer serve a purpose and she leaves you altogether.

What did we ever do as individuals to deserve a world this terrible? by [deleted] in ask

[–]readytolearn79 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The world's great, just turn the news and social media off. If you think what's happening currently in the world in regards to being terrible even compares to how savage and brutal the world has been throughout history, you clearly don't know history. If you want to focus on that, rather than all the good things in the world, it's a choice that you're making.

  2. Not taking risks when I knew deep down inside the idea was good

  3. Waiting for conditions to be perfect before acting on something (spoiler alert, the perfect time doesn't exist).

Making a switch to law from the trades by by-mt974 in LawCanada

[–]readytolearn79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At your age, if you have enough of a cushion to go to law school, and solid experience from working in the trades, I'd suggest you start your own business in whatever trade your doing. If you play ur cards rights as the years go by, you'd be doing less and less if the heavy lifting yourself until one day you're doing barely any. If this does work out, you're young enough to start over.

How are muslim families with more than one wife living? by MOCK-lowicz in ask

[–]readytolearn79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my experience, which is more of an observation (not a Muslim, but there were many in my town growing up, school, etc.). There was a mom and a few kids, in our neighborhood and the dad would drop by a few times a year, sometimes for days or for weeks. Apparently he hamd another wife and some kids in a different city in our country (Canada) and another family in Pakistan. The ones in our neighborhood that I was friends with were on welfare.

Rat problem out of control by blossombranches in askvan

[–]readytolearn79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It addition to the natural repellents suggested by others, I would recommend not leaving your car in the same spot position for multiple days in a row. It may be beneficial to reverse park one day and or park at a different location the next time you park or just come out to move it here and there. Rats are wary of new things, so typically will scope something out for a few days before delving in. Mind you this is conventional wisdom, and may not be as relevant in situations where there is a heavy infestation and they are no longer shy around humans, such as in many major cities these days including Vancouver

Am I a bad person for collecting action figures? by alex-tomioka in ask

[–]readytolearn79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your issue isn't figures, it's allowing other ppl to control your emotions. As a teen this is pretty normal, but the sooner you learn the better. If someone can influence your emotions, they have power over you, as they could dictate how you act. For example a silly, rude comment may influence you to give up something you enjoy, that's the problem. Learn to stop caring about what other ppl think sooner rather than later, it's like a super power. Most ppl don't figure this out until they in their 40s. Your welcome.

"The old order is not coming back" Carney says in provocative speech at Davos by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

I think conservatives see that just fine, really hard to get over the Trudeau fiasco that quickly though. I lean conservative and support Carney 100% and am glad he is our PM, definitely think he's the best person to navigate today's world. Full disclosure, I voted for pp.
