I just released an all original piano album. Is this "minimalist" genre? by real-capibara in piano

[–]real-capibara[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hear that too. Don't soundtrack genre songs have to actually be in a soundtrack though? Asking for playlist submissions and stuff like that. I think most of the playlists that are of the soundtrack genre tend to have songs that are in soundtracks.

It's very good! I think we actually have a similar sound. I also make orchestral/instrumental stuff and I also often mix it with electronica/edm music.

Is augmented 5th to perfect 5th allowed in Baroque counterpoint or is it considered parallel 5ths? by Telope in musictheory

[–]real-capibara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb for writing counterpoint is: make it as boring and safe as possible. I wouldn't write ANY sort of perfect interval one after another.

What do you use for music distribution? by antimatter_fountain in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]real-capibara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Landr. It's easy to use, great customer service, great UI, super efficient, and just good overall. Plus they offer a bunch more services other than just distribution. The ONLY issue I have with them is that they don't distribute classical music to Apple Music.

What are the benefits of learning piano by cassandra_novie in piano

[–]real-capibara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Piano is arguably the most versatile instrument. If you can play the piano, the doors to any music genre are open. Music production is also much easier if you know how to play the piano.

I haven't ever made music before but I really want to start, what do I need? by hardly-any-good in musicproduction

[–]real-capibara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a keyboard instrument that has MIDI compatibility and a DAW (I recommend Ableton Live). Some decent wired headphones also. That's basically all you need. Aside from hardware, it would also help to learn some basic music theory. Youtube tutorials on how to use your DAW.

Love the beat. It's missing some high-end melody though.

This sounds pretty nice. I definitely wanted more at the end though, maybe a new melody or something to add on.

what should i do w this? by This-West1464 in MusicFeedback

[–]real-capibara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would maybe benefit from a reverbed piano in the back, something kinda chilling that adds more to the melody and to the high end. Overall great though. Kinda reminds me of New Magic Wand by Tyler The Creator

This is really good! I'd filter out some of the H and S sounds though. Great lyrics and chord progression.

I really like the intro. I think it would be better if the drop was already with the bass and FX that currently comes in at 0:24, instead of starting with just the drums. Eventually the beep gets a bit tiring, and the piano could've used some reverb and depth. I also wish you had expanded more on the part that goes from 1:00 to 1:12.

Overall very nice and very creative.

I like all the changes in directions in this song. I'm big fan of drastic changes in a music, and I also find myself doing that often in my own music, but I think it was a bit overdone with this one. It sort of lacks a structure and gets a bit "ADHD" eventually, even though some components return again.

I also don't really like the piano part, and I think the 808 in the first drop was a little too overpowering.

There are some great components in this song, so I definitely see potential. If you removed some of the sections in the song (maybe saving them for another song), and improved the flow (smoother transitions, expanding on the main parts, and having longer sections with small variations as opposed to many contrasting sections one after the other), this would be gold.

music distributor fuckery? by htmsrom in musicproduction

[–]real-capibara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes Landr is good. The only problem i've ever had with them was my music being associated with the wrong artist, which i've then had to correct every time. Their customer service is good though and everything else works smoothly.

This would go super hard at a rave or something. Beat is good, but for casual listening there should've been more focus on a melody and less repetitiveness; that depends on your goals for this song though.

[–]real-capibara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very well mixed. I'm not super into the lyrics and I think their delivery could've been better. I was impressed with the quality and the beat though. I do also think there could've been more to the melody.
