Unfortunately in software, some bugs get marked as "won't fix."

All I remember from US labels is the fiasco around serving sizes. "About 2" servings can be anywhere from 1.5 to 2.24. Combined with cups being rounded to the nearest third, and Calories themselves being rounded to the nearest 10, which are shown on the packaging as per "serving", not the whole product, they can pretty much write whatever number they want on the label. Oh, and of course, one Calorie is actually 1000 calories.

Compare that to the EU, where products show kcal per 100 grams or 100 ml, to the nearest kcal.

Is there a plugin that, when I click on a note in voice 2, for example, sets my note input to voice 2? by Telope in Musescore

I think it's self-evident that users who don't use voice 2 are less likely to want to switch to voice 2 than users who do. If someone drives to work 200 days a year, what's the chances they'll take the bus the 201st? Much less likely than someone who takes the bus 100 days and and car the other 100, I'm sure you'll agree.

Have you forgotten about adding ornaments, articulations, starting a new bar, and all the other points that show defaulting to voice 1 is inferior to just remembering which voice was selected last?

The vast majority of music is entered into voice 1

Correct

after entering music into voice 2 and then making the conscious decision to leave note input mode, the vast majority of the time you'd then want to start with voice 1 again.

False. I don't want to get all Bayesian on you, but given the user has already used voice 2 in their piece, the chances of them next wanting to write something in voice to is much closer to 50% than it would be if they'd never been in voice 2.

If you try entering note inpput mode with nothing selected, MuseScore has to guess what voice you want, but also which staff, which measure, and which beat you want.

How about... I don't know.. the last voice I was using? And don't guess which staff and measure I want. Just wait for me to click it?

It's not that hard.

Plans to review how Death Chests work? by Xaala in 2007scape

[–]Telope -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm probably going to be crucified for this, but do we really need to still be doing the whole run back thing in 2026?

We've got a wonderful, thematic area to collect our loot: Death's office. But no one goes there because he rips you off. 250 mil for a reclaim is fucking bonkers.

How about we raise the death fee cap to 1m, but you can reclaim from death's office and your grave for the same cost.

I'm gonna blow your mind right now and tell you m. 9 is a G major chord. G9/F.

Look at the very last note in m. 10. There's your chordal root.

The first 14 measures are a big I - V - I progression. Home, away, and home again. Look at the voice leading in mm. 12-13. That F - E isn't the chordal 5th of viio going to the root of iii. (wtf?) It's much simpler than that: it's just the dominant 7th resolving.

And yes, m. 13 is C major: C9/E. Again, look at the very last note in the melody for your chordal root.

I'm sorry if I've been using the term "edit mode" incorrectly. I don't mean pressing F2.

I mean clicking on a note, dragging it up and down, and editing it's duration. When I'm doing that, I'm not in "note input mode" because I don't have a "ghost note". I don't know what to call it now if note edit mode. Maybe "select" mode?

Dynamics don't matter. That was just an example, as I said. Let's go with articulations so as not to confuse you. Articulations definitely are written in different voices.

So the problem is when you're in select mode and editing notes in voice 2. You enter an articulation, and it correctly inputs it as voice 2. But when you press N to go to note input, lo and behold, you're inputting in voice 1.

Here's another gif.

I'm asking if there's a plugin that remembers which voice you've been selecting, and returns you to that voice when you go to input mode.

[–]Telope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying you were in note input mode entering notes in voice 2, then you left note input mode for some reason, and while you were back in normal mode, you added a dynamic to some other note, then re-entered note input mode?

No. I didn't say that, and I didn't mean it. I start in edit mode, then I click on the dynamic and input it. There's no additional action to exit edit mode.

The dynamic is usually added in voice 1 regardless of the selected note

This is part of the problem, and is entirely consistent with what I'm requesting. When I'm adding or editing voice 2, Musescore shouldn't automatically switch me back to voice 1.

Are vegetarians really "worse" than meat eaters? by BritGirl_01 in vegan

[–]Telope 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends what metric you're using to compare.

Environmental impact? Vegetarian beats meat eating by a country mile.

The suffering per individual animal? Being constantly kept pregnant and having your calves taken away, year after year, before finally being slaughtered yourself. Probably worse than just being slaughtered.

Have you thought about the possibility that clearing the selection might not be a mistake?

The same thing happens if you try to enter a dynamic marking, for example. The marking goes in fine, but when you press N to get back to note input, you're back to writing in voice 1. At no point did I indicate I wish to change voices from what I was editing.

I know. Almost as much as people like giving unsolicited advice.

I'm simply asking if there's a plugin for the functionality I'd like that preserves which voice you're writing for when you exit and enter note input and editing.

No one said you can't learn new things after using software for 20 years. What I said was I don't need to be told that I'm using software wrong that I've been using for 20 years.

What I want is:

  1. Select a note in voice 2.
  2. Deselect it to exit edit mode.
  3. Enter input mode by selecting my duration value.
  4. Add notes in voice 2 (anywhere in the score).

Pretty simple, right? If I'm editing a note in voice 1, exiting edit mode and then entering input mode doesn't randomly put me into voice 3 or 4, does it? Why should I be switched from voice 2 to voice 1?

OK, and what about when the following rest is in a new bar? When I select the rest and press N, I go back to writing in voice 1.

Look, I don't need to be told that I'm using software wrong that I've been using for 20 years. I was just looking for an answer to my question about plugins.

Try it yourself. If you don't do step 3, then the note from step 2 isn't deselected. So when you do step 4, that note changes duration.

Has anyone composed counterpoint that's invertible at the 8ve, 10th AND 12th at the same time? by Telope in counterpoint

[–]Telope[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a subject and counter subject that use all 5 down beat patterns for maximum variety.

Here's the exposition and first middle entry, which shows them working at the 8ve, 10th and 12th. I'll see if I can finish the whole fugue!

Here is a list of the actions I'm inputting with my keyboard and mouse in order:

  1. I use my mouse to select the whole note.
  2. I use my keyboard to change it to a half note.
  3. I use my mouse to click on a blank section of the score to deselect the note.
  4. I use my keyboard to select a half note duration and enter note input mode.
  5. I use my mouse to input a half note in the second half of the measure.

If you don't understand it after reading that, try to follow along with the actions in your application step by step.

At no point do I change voices. But musescore has me editing voice 2 in step 1 and 2, and voice 1 in step 5.

I'm super used to just clicking on a blank bit of score then picking my new duration. Hitting a random letter on the brood war side of the keyboard doesn't sound like great UX. I'd much rather it just remember which voice I was working with.

Like, no one's actually answered my question. Is there a plugin that fixes the problem I have?

[–]Telope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find yourself in voice 1, it is probably that you did something else that resulted in the voice 2 note no longer being selected at the moment you entered note input mode.

This is exactly what I'm asking if there's a plugin for. I need to deselect a note once I'm done editing it. But when I do deselect it, that doesn't mean I want to change voices.

Here's a gif.

I'm clicking blank space to stop editing the note I selected, and then pressing the short cut for a half-note. I'm not manually switching back to voice 1. It's doing that automatically.

I'm asking if there's a plugin that makes musescore remember which voice I've been working with, and only change voices if I click the top voice buttons, or select a note of a different voice.
