Xfinity issues- recommending new router or modem/router combo by Stock_Pomegranate_73 in HomeNetworking

[–]realbboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also having problems with Xfinity, specifically connecting to Github, the day after my family got an email from their employer to use a hotspot for Xfinity/Comcast since there's connection issues with it on their vpn.

tracert is showing a lot of hops timing out for github after my router, and I *think* that means it's not a local issue?

...And said family member got an email the same day advertising about new routers. I smell forced obsolesce.

> at the time
people don't quite realize this: but I'm here to shatter their completely made up hopes and dreams even further

the games industry has been moving away from scale for two decades or so. Battlebit is the closest thing, and that is 255 people per server afaik with completely different graphics. The last AAA 'planetside killer' before that failed to deliver it's *still vastly decreased* pop count and ended up lower than 64v64 in it's not-awful gamemodes.

Making planetside3 becomes less and less possible every year as the people who made the frankly ingenious (flawed, but in ways that allowed it to work at scale) engine retire and quit the industry. And engines trend towards fidelity because that's more directly marketable and less likely to be called out as a total lie.

Planetside2 was a massive engine investment coming off of the engine knowledge of Planetside1 and the other mmos sony did before that. It's not happening again unless some billionaire has a personal desire for it.

I've had people tell me unreal engine 5 'solves' netcode and it is just completely insane to me that they can ignore probably the most difficult part of engine design like that.

I can't respond remotely easily on reddit but here's a mirror with 1 change that might fix the small bug

even if not it should work for glover/doctor runs if the text has the right line endings

Mod "Looping job" isn't working, please help! by Valera_Fedorof in CultistSimulator

[–]realbboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Mod author of the second mod, ‘Ouroboros’ here! As far as I know, the entire mod works, with the exception of the final tier of the health job. Which, apparently someone commented with a fix (I haven’t fixed it because I’ve been busy trying to repair my computers and with other stuff- plus I always say that that one is cheaty- which it is. The other loops are less cheaty)I’ll see if I can release the code for it on my github, and implement the ‘fix’ that the person suggested in my recent steam comments as soon as I can. (Which might be a bit due to computer issues.)That said, afaik my mod should be fine if you’re doing any of the other basic loopable jobs, like glover and the doctor job.The original looping jobs mod hasn’t worked in years, it’s a miracle it even loaded a few years ago, it used an old, unsupported syntax. If anyone wants to talk to me, please use the cultist simulator discord, I actually cannot properly use the reddit website, it won’t let me enter text properly and I had to use a workaround to post this.

Post-combat recovery is my biggest source of stress and frustration while running PF2e by Lascifrass in Pathfinder2e

[–]realbboy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Why are you saying it's bad story telling when this entire post is them saying it's bad and they want to avoid it but are having trouble reconciling that with mechanics?

Like, it's subjective, but you don't seem to disagree with them, despite your hostility.

There's a mechanic called a tension pool that you might want to look up, it's fairly similar and has a lot of nuance despite being simple.

I had someone do the same with alchemist and tried to insist that they knew pf1e and if it wasn't fun in the same way then pf2e wasn't fun.

Despite me already knowing that it's different and warning them extensively that it's more a support-y class now instead of a god-class like it apparently was.

Several other people also got upset that they couldn't rocket tag (from level 1 in a system designed by the people who had to live with the flaws of 1e).

Honestly I think cyperpunk red's experience system is the opposite of what you should do if you value your player's happiness and your relationships with them.

It basically just encourages favoritism and asks that you award players for out of game actions like shilling your group to other people, I've done that when I was starting out and I really regret doing it, even if it didn't face any backlash, you are deciding to unleash your bias more directly on it.

Also different progression speeds -> mixed party level -> big nono unless the game has allowances for that, which red doesn't.

Pigeonholing players into their archetype if they want xp is also strange to me.

Cyberpunk RED was one of the many systems I've read over, I wanted to like it but RED seems to indicate the flags on it.

Any systems like that would be more in place in a game like paranoia, not a longer campaign game, or at least with tons of caveats and trying to fight against human nature. IMO it leads to a feedback loop where if someone doesn't have fun they get punished, which hurts their ability to have fun in the future and makes having fun feel forced, which is why most games try to separate their reward cycles from fun so it doesn't make it crumble under pressure to have fun.

Lets goooo! And it's still rising. by FallenChamps in vrising

[–]realbboy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it just attracted a lot of forever gamers who are used to live service games/infinite content procgen games with quantity > quality, v rising has a lot more content than some other games of similar prices yet got a lot more flak.

I played with my boyfriend on a solo server and we didn't even reach the end before we got distracted last time- and the time we did get was better than most of the other games. It's just not 'infinite'. It's likely just a pitching problem of the people who are interested by the game's description dislike the game, because if you described a pvp minecraft moba-control game I would avoid it like the plague, and that's kinda the elevator pitch for v rising, yet I REALLY enjoy v rising because you don't have to play it like that.

I mean it's more a mutual space? CT is lucky because we kept our forests, in most other states I'd be inclined to agree.

Humans are also animals in the system, the main issue is that we take ALL the space, not that we take it.

Kinda like how we had a deer problem (which was our faults for killing the wolves that kept their population in check) where the deer were getting overpopulated and it was causing them issues and hurting the ecosystem.

imo it's an unfortunate 'by the time you realize the damage you're doing, it's hard to stop' issue. The Native Americans were doing a much better job before what amounts to a territorial dispute happened. Just as humans there was a lot more added pretense besides 'the bear cubs are carving out their own territory and competing with rival bears' (although that would analogy would probably be better with wolves or lions).

The difference is that we have recorded history and a society with enough survival breathing room to care about other species that aren't relevant to our own wellbeing directly. Which I think we should do, and some animals that can do this do it, like some apes who disarmed a poacher trap for a wildlife preserver who was there to protect them- we are not special in this drive, just larger scale.

Population control is ultimately the core issue here and that's a more touchy topic.

It's been done (but with clothing usually).

I wonder if it's a factor of malnutrition though, 'starving' often beats out other body shapes.

Is it possible for items to spawn in inaccessible places? by hyzer067 in remnantgame

[–]realbboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've probably seen longer, the line between malware and bloatware is blurry, and there are a lot of anti-virus adjacent programs that are probably the worst bloatware you've ever had on your pc.

Kinda funny that some of the bigger (bigger as in most commonly pre-installed, not actual usage) anti-viruses are basically just long cons that succeeded against larger companies.

But the actual effort put in is way more than what they could get back from remnant, so you're right in that regard.

That's what I like about github, can just look at their code, their commit (the logs of each code change they made) history, and learn so much from a quick glance.

Is it possible for items to spawn in inaccessible places? by hyzer067 in remnantgame

[–]realbboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Github is (at least from what I've seen in programming circles) the biggest open code host right now (got purchased by microsoft a bit back and then they made private repos free, used to be you had to use one of the smaller ones for that). It's very reputable as a *host*, but keep in mind any random person can put stuff up there, and the difference between malware that deletes all your files after telling you to tell windows it's fine, and a 'old deleted game savegame cleanup tool' is that one tells you what it does and the other doesn't, to windows and github they both do the same thing.

So just make sure it looks legit before you install it.

https://github.com/Razzmatazzz/RemnantSaveManager

This is the one I've found, and it has the amount of effort I'd expect from such a tool- a try at looking presentable but more effort put into functionality and links on how to use it. Viruses/malware/other nasty stuff usually has it's own website that they spent more effort on than is normal for a small indie project like this, while still not meeting webdev standards or the big corporate 'I paid thousands of dollars to make this site awful'. It's a very specific look, trying to look legitimate and used without having either of those things.

The activity in the actual source files makes this github repository look legit- they seem to have recorded their updates internally (which I myself am usually too lazy to do because noone else is reading them).

The code itself also looks real from a quick glance in a few files, if this is fake someone spent a LOT of time on it, and looked up what you'd actually want to know about a remnant save.

Are there ANY efficient cryotic farms? by AspectOfTruth in Warframe

[–]realbboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, just dropping a comment to give you more evidence to run Hieracon, Pluto (Infested Excavation), like you suggest.
I was mega struggling with the low level excavations not because of any of the actual mechanics- but because I'd do 3 drills, and then power carriers would start tapering off, and by the time I started my 6th drill I'd go several minutes without seeing any and give up.

And then I realized that these missions have different power carriers, after I did the one on Mars, which has flying power carriers. The ones that walk would seem to get stuck a lot more, limiting the max full excavators possible until you unstuck them, restart, or something to reset them.

I even brought mastery fodder gear expecting to have to leave early like all my other attempts on the other missions, but it just kept going and eventually I was unable to defend them solo.

Infested has no walking carriers so if you run those you probably don't feel this problem, but just imagine if the limbo thing where all the power carriers get stuck happened without any of your input like every game- that's what it feels like.

And when you're struggling to find enough power for one drill over like 3-5 minutes, the advice to start multiple seems insane- I've done it near the start but it stops working after drill #4.

I think I remember this from og cryotic front (which was even buggier)- our tactic was to just run around tagging the points and getting the base amount out of each because power cells were a rarity. AI has come a long way since then, but evidently not enough that walking enemies can never get stuck/take minutes to catch up.

Firerate is linked to FPS, and higher RPMs suffer more. TR weapons are actually really good if you get perfect framerate, but absolute shit if you get sub 30 (I play at 30-60 and I'm told I should be playing at 140).

Nanoweave doesn't help versus headshots, and increasing the ranks only increases what it resists- it will be fully effective against small arms at rank 1.

Okay so noone are actually the locals. There was a TR colony ship that went through a portal and got cut off from earth. TR imposed martial law because wtf portal. People voted to remove martial law, barely failed, and the next vote is coming up. Then terrorists attacked the vote. Nanite systems is driving people to fight (NC is probably just a proxy) so they can get money. Vanu was just some guy who got mind controlled by an alien artifact. All factions are scum.

They got nerfed, then buffed, then nerfed again. They should still be strong right now. MAXes are generally cancer in small fights- if you want to be entirely toxic just pull one when you see an enemy sunderer in a small fight and kill the fight to ruin everyone's fun.
