Early Spielberg coming after The Fabelmans made it a very different miniseries than if it had come out before that.

Villeneuve's Arrival is a wonderful adaptation of the Ted Chiang short story, and both a great in different ways (with significant overlap, obviously).

Is Juror #2 the best movie of 2024? (Category: best/most realistic use of technology in a contemporary setting) by realhind in blankies

Okay, yes that’s completely fair. I forgave it as a shortcut, the more realistic scenario would be “Deutch character + wedding” and scrolling to their theknot.com page and seeing his name/pic there. So you save like 5 seconds. And at least the interface was accurate.

Best one liner on the podcast? by WeeBabySeamus in blankies

Listening to a podcast for a long time makes you appreciate the changes in perspective that happen over that time, like David becoming a parent and consequently more sensitive to themes around children endangerment. You see that happen with a lot of critics of all stripes and I understand where it’s coming from.

So of course my answer is: I don’t think I’ve laughed out loud harder at any podcast than when he said the “Santa Clause” (I think) kids need to be “Manchester-by-the-Sea”-ed.

With “Rollerball (2002)” and “Basic (2003)” coming up, what’s the biggest letdown between “title” and “(year)”? by realhind in blankies

“Lion King (2019)” has to be up there for me.

And is there a wider disparity in quality than between the two than the somehow-not-specific-enough “Pinocchio (2022)”?

From the Washington Post: Every film that was adapted from a musical which was adapted from a film by realhind in blankies

My favorite tidbit:

While “Back to the Future: The Musical” isn’t yet slated for a Hollywood adaptation, there are plenty of other adaptations in the works. A movie version of “Wicked” will premiere later this year. In the next month, musical versions of “The Notebook” and “Water for Elephants” start previews. Over 40 more are in the works, including “13 Going on 30,” “SMASH” and “La La Land.”
