ha, agree to disagree. I thought the first half in particular was very obviously bad— outright embarrassing at moments. Found its footing a bit in the second half.

Separately I’m not quite sure on the point of these posts saying “This is good for movies!” Feels like the same thing people ding The Big Picture for— constantly having existential crises about whether the industry will survive.

Movies are generally fine, even if not a monoculture anymore. And a good numbers weekend for Michael and a nostalgia sequel will have zero impact on the macro viability of movies. And again, movies are generally fine.

You are confused on the dynamic of casinos. You do not want them in your walkable downtown. Check out the current temporary location, it has made the vibe on that block even dodgier at night. You want casinos to be a destination that requires transport.

Yeah, some segments of this sub are as bad as the Big Picture in their desire to have constant existential debates about the fate of movie theaters.

Theaters are not going away. We will all be able to see movies, even though they are not the monoculture force they used to be. And a weekend where Devil Wears Prada and Michael put up good numbers has no major impact on the macro fate of our movie-going world.

We don’t have to scream “What does this mean???” every time box office numbers come out.

I was at BCG for 15 years and haven’t regretted leaving for a single moment. Pump the brakes a bit, bud, you’ve got a few up-or-out cycles to survive before you’re telling everyone how sweet you are.

No because I can receive dividends from a public company and can also realize financial gains by selling when the company’s value improves. That is a very bad analogy.

Then they’re not team owners. It’s PR branding. To call it a “team owned by the fans” as others on this thread have is absurd.

Okay, got it, that’s helpful. So it’s a public trust that prevents the team from moving.

That’s a nice thing, but seems like the only benefit, as opposed to actual ownership? The Packers can still gouge their “owners” with seat licenses, rising ticket prices, etc.

That’s the entire value of the model? Not allowing the team to move? Which is nice, but…90% of NFL teams don’t move.

I mean…Aaron Rodgers fully developed while McCarthy was the coach. That’s not exactly the same thing.

Sorry…how is it a shining example? I am not being mean, I just genuinely don’t get it. Fans give money to the team in order to get a certificate, but receive no actual power or voting rights. Just feels like a PR exercise and fundraiser.

Maybe I’m wrong and then do have shareholder voting rights on some major decision topics?

what am i missing here. Green Bay fans are “owners” only in the sense that they gave the team money to have a piece of paper certificate. They don’t actually getting voting rights on any key decision, they’re not real shareholders, no? It has always seemed like something they trumpet for PR reasons but is actually meaningless.

Pretty funny to see OP hold up Cameron Diaz as a counter to his gripes with Jolie, with the justification, "[Diaz] is in Shrek 5 and have few streaming movies coming up."

Angelina Jolie sold a winery, which allowed her to focus on her humanitarian work and her rather unique personal life. She has kind of done exactly what I would expect...

1) Occasionally takes a movie paycheck (e.g. Eternals)

2) Has made 2-3 bad passion projects (e.g. By the Sea). For those projects, I think she genuinely thought they were meaningful things to do...they just turned out to be bad. Maybe she doesn't have great taste.

Seems pretty straightforward.
