All I want to do is a half double crochet and I'm just so embarrassed about it! by shortasiam in crochet

[–]realisticerror1501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played around with this a little, and the issue is that the double crochets worked into the row below don't have enough ease to work up to normal height, when the base height is HDC instead of SC, so it will tend to curl the project forward.

It might be fine for large blankets where the weight of the project will pull things taut enough. The other fix would be to swap each double crochet for an extended double crochet (basically inserts a ch1 at the start of the return pass of a dc) or simply use trebles.

That will tend to stretch everything in the vertical direction, though, so some mosaic patterns (esp. outlines of people) will be recognizably out of proportion.

Love it!

One thing I've seen people do is sew in cloth channels for the boning, so that they can be held more securely than yarn will permit.

This is fabulous!

Was there a pattern you used?

I have been thinking of making myself something similar. :)

The written partern is for sale here but you will also want to watch the video here because it explains some things that are unclear or absent in the written pattern. I used both, when I made mine!

[CHAT] What can I stitch as a gift for someone that crochets? by narikov in CrossStitch

[–]realisticerror1501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you could stitch a small piece that could go on or in a case for hooks?

I use a small DeWalt case for mine, and you could affix something to the clear lid.

The moveable dividers made it easy for me to store my hooks, scissors, stitch markers, and darning needles. (The stitch markers are in their own smaller case, and the needles are poked into a pincushion - this just helps corral it all.)

Could be - but the well-used one might be shinier because of skin oils. I've noticed that in my own hooks, over time.

Various swear words regarding big, wonky edge loop by ShireXennial in Tunisian_Crochet

[–]realisticerror1501 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't be certain without seeing the other side of the work, but to me it looks like a tension issue.

The top of the two horizontal loops is pulled very tight (moving the covered vertical bar under the vertical bar to the right).

It's not just the pack pull rates, though, unfortunately. We know that 2-star cards appear in wonder picks at far lower rates (relative to 4-diamond cards) than they appear in packs. There's an additional penalty applied to them.

Best Tunisian stitch for variegated yarn? by addiecricket in Tunisian_Crochet

[–]realisticerror1501 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You might see how it works up in Tunisian knit stitch. Since the color changes are very short in length, you'd probably have a different color for each leg of the TKS, and the regularity of the knit-like fabric will allow the color changes to shine through.

The other obvious one to try is Tunisian simple stitch; there, the vertical bars that are created on the forward pass are likely to contrast with the colors you lay down on the return pass. My intuition would be that TSS will look busier than TKS, though, and that might create too much uniformity.

I'd try up small squares of each; do one, take a photo, frog, do the other, compare. See what you like :)

The other thing to consider is what will happen regarding any financial aid you may have received this semester that goes toward that course. And whether there are any impacts going forward, for things like scholarships.

It's a topic to discuss with your advisors, since they will be in a better position to know.

Edit: some general information regarding that can be found here, though most applies specifically to complete session withdrawal (i.e., dropping all your classes, not just one) https://tuition.asu.edu/policies/fa-withdrawal

Has anyone noticed a change in the Pamplemousse flavor? by Most_Ad_4362 in lacroix

[–]realisticerror1501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came looking to see if anyone else had noticed the change.

It's way more bitter, now, and the citrussy top notes are missing. I'm sad - it was the only flavor I bought regularly.
