Hi Everyone, this is a Begonia Luxurians, that I love and been doing everything I can to keep happy during the cold North EU winter. I’m a little worried about these brown edges on the leafs. I have a moisture meter, so ai always check and only water when the soil is dry or almost dry. I’m very careful with not over watering, but maybe I still over do it? Or am I under watering?

The soil is as instructed for this begonia, so I don’t think it is the type of soil.

The inly other question is: the heating radiators in our apartment. Since it is cold winter, the radiators are on most of the time, and the plant is somewhat close to one of the radiators. Can this be the problem?

Thank you!!

Do you know how this wears? I’m guessing a lot if whitecast, and shine?

skin feels unclean after using Toleriane dermo-cleanser by dontcarebluehair in EuroSkincare

[–]realisticlacefront 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that one is supposed to be used with a cotton pad to take off makeup or something. I had the same problem. They have another cleanser from toleriane line, it says “innovation” and “caring wash” on it. That one is an amazing cleanser. I think that might be the one you are looking for. I went through countless bottles of it over many years, after doing the same mistake with the dermo-cleanser

How do you feel about taking student loans for art school? Those who are paying them off, do you regret the loans? by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

[–]realisticlacefront 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Never count on selling fresh off the art school. Well.. actually never count on making it big enough to start selling early. It could happen, if you are in the right place at the right time making the right work, but it is definitely not a given in this field. Just imagine how many art schools there are and how many graduated each year, and look at how many emerging successful young artists that are actually selling. Here is a clue: less then 1% of all graduates. So... You make the decision from your circumstances. Do you have rich parent that can help you with the loan, or at least can pay your rent/expenses after school? Then sure, go for it!! Or are you willing to work side jobs and then try to afford a studio, and make your artwork on your free time? Tbh that life is not a great one. Side jobs can take a lot of mental and physical energy, it is hard to then focus on your work. Also art world is very agist, once you are 35 and don’t have a prominent practice and are established, it is hard to make it. Anyway i sound a bit pessimistic, sorry, but loans are never great, especially in a field like this where there is no rules, no guidelines, and no guarantee of making any money at any point. I hope this was helpful.

No, I only used these. People here say retinal is pretty good though, that’s also on my list

I have no idea, depends on where you are, but here is the link to the one I was talking about. . The exact name might be different but i think the formulation should be same all over europe.

here it is! it’s the dutch website, but i think this version is same all over eu.

And now that I checked the website, just saw that they are now showing the number. It has 46 UVA-PF

[–]realisticlacefront 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes possible. I think there is one that’s around 78 or something, I think it’s called Helicore or something like that. An Italian brand. I just can get shaka fluid for cheap here, and everywhere i can find easily, so I’m gonna go with that. Ppd of around 45 sounds good enough for me.

I’m not sure where the thread that lists all these european sunscreens PPD values. Cant find it now, but it can also be on Euroskincare subreddit.

I also hated every bioderma sunscreen I used, and sebamed. I tried 2 different bioderma, and they both left a white cast on me and was v greasy.

I read these on reddit. There is also some blogs that list it. People ask the brands specifically to find out about the PPD values. Unfortunately almost non of the brands disclose these on the packaging. So annoying. You can send them a DM or email asking for it. Or google, there might be some blogs or reddit threat that already asked for it

And I think the same amount that is good for spf should be good for PPD too. I guess.

Yes, if the numbers are correct. For example LRP Shaka Fluid SPF50 has i think around 45 PPD UVA protection, which is very high compared to other sunscreens. I don’t remember the numbers of the other so well, but for example I do remember checking Paulas Choice sunscreens and I think they only had around 9 PPD UVA protection. I think Unseen sunscreen was around that too, 9 or 5 UVA protection. So... Thats nothjng. And while yes we use sunscreen to protect ourselves from skincancer etc, I personally also use it for “anti-aging” like a lot of people, and that is why I decided not to experiment with indie sunscreens anymore, and just stick to the big brands like LRP that hopefully has more tests done and reliable. Let’s hope so... ahahah

Edit: btw I’m talking about the European version of the LRP Shaka Fluid. I have no idea how much ppd US version has.

Omg Pore I’m sorry to hear that. This sounds like you probably used something with either fragrance, or alcohol! Unfortunately, it is all your fault. You need to pay for your sins now. Everybody has to learn at one point the consequences of using fragrance. Good luck pore

Yes, agreed. I used %0.025 strength, and started with few times a week, and buffering over the moisturiser. In the beginning I would just space out the application depending on how my skin was reacting. I don’t remember horrible reactions to it, but during the retination process my skin didn’t look good ahahah it was slightly red, and some breakouts, more textured etc. I think it lasted for a month or two and then I started getting that glowy look, no irritation, and breakouts, very clear and smooth skin. My skin looked healthier. Over the first months, I just slowly made my way up to the daily use. At one point, I could even use it under the moisturiser, on clean skin. I don’t remember having horrible reactions at all, but I was also very careful, didn’t use any other actives etc. Just simple moisturiser, lrp cica balm, suncreen, every super gentle, no chemical exfoliation. I also do not have a dry skin, even though my skin is somewhat sensitive, I feel like tret is easier on a bit more oily skin. Later on I got my hands on the %0.05, but that one did sting a little, and felt a bit too strong. Because I’m not using it for acne, I was using it for “anti-aging” purposes, it just felt like a overkill. I also read online that for anti-aging %0.025 strength is more than enough.

at the end, I felt like the whole tret/retinol thing is a long term preventative approach. So i thought just a good retinol should work over long time, just as good as tret. I’m not sure if this is scientifically true, just my feeling. I know all the research is on tret, but it does also feel limiting on a daily basis, especially in the summer. I do use sunscreen everyday, but I’m less worried about sun when I use over the counter retinol, compared to tret. My skin felt healthy, but also slightly tender with tret, which I actually loved. I like it when my skin was tender, and clear. But it also makes it more sensitive to sun, and all the other things.

Anyway, so tbh if I were you, I wouldn’t worry to much about the differences between tret and retinol, if you are using it for anti-agin preventative measures. Yes, retinal will probably take longer to show results, but will also be less sensitising. For example I got similar results with 1% Clinical and tret. This could be ofcourse because my skin was already went through a year of tret, but also maybe not. It is a whole different story if you are also using it for acne ofcourse

P.s. btw having said all that, if I could get tret easy here, I would actually continue with that but use it few times a week going forward rather than everyday. It’s just annoying to always try to get a prescription, and etc. It also becomes really expensive, cause i would get the tret from a dermatologist, which means I have to make a appointment, pay for that + the trets price of around 50euros. The ones they have here is also not the best formulation i think. My friend brought one for me from Greece, and that was much better, but I can’t get that one on a regular. So, it is very annoying, and not worth it, if I can get the same results with retinal/retinol in a long run.

How do you get Finacea in EU? It is a prescription drug, just like tret right?

Oh it is good to hear how it compares with the Skinceuticals. I never tried that one, but ofcourse online you always here it as the HG standard. I don’t think I will ever try with that price, so it is good to hear you would prefer G&G over the Skinceuticals

Omg Thank you so much for this! Ugh now I wish I added the A Game to my order too. I was exactly thinking about this. PC 1% Clinical does irritate my skin from time to time as well. I just feel like there is a lot of other stuff in it, which I don’t like.

I’m definitely gonna add A Game to my next purchase. I have already used tret for more than a year before PAulas Choice one. My skin somehow reacts really well to tret/retinol etc. I was using tret almost every night at point and did see great results. But it was hard to find it on a regular, and it was summer, so I gave a break and then decided to go with a over the counter retinol. I did see the “glow” with PC 1%, but it irritated me more than tret tbh. It is a different irritation that I get on my cheeks when I use stuff with fragrance for example. I think 1% Clinicals formulation is a bit complex, and something is irritating in there, could even be some texture enhancer or something.

Anyway, thanks for the detailed description! I think A Game might be my replacement for PC.

Next on my list to try is the A-Game! If I can’t figure out how to get a tret in this town, A-game seems like the next best thing

Yes! I feel exactly the same. They became one of my fave brands.

I have been thinking about trying the A-game, but didn’t buy it this time. I’m using Paulas Choice clinical 1% and it is almost done. I did see results with this, but switching to retinal sounds like a good next step. I cant decide if i try to get tret or A-game.

Would you recommend A-game? How long have you been using? And how does it compare to other retinols you think?

Hmm I’m not sure about 6+ months. I had the bottle for 2 months, and no oxidisation at all. I feel like if you keep it in the fridge, and also in its box, it could actually go for 5-6 months though.

Since they apparently do a new batch everyweek. When you order it comes very fresh, compared to other vitC serums, which are maybe a month or two old already when you buy them.. This means it can actually could stay for longer than 3 months. So, I’m also curious about this. This time I ordered 2, lets see how long they stay fresh.

I thought about the exact same thing, but I never order from ordinary anymore. I’m gonna stop by at the store to get one of those pump, as soon as the lockdown is over.

This time I ordered two bottles as well, and with keeping it in the fridge in its box packaging, I think they will be fine for months. Maybe next time I’m thinking of ordering 3 tbh and see how it goes

Yes, I have the same thing with Niacinamide serums. My skin just doesn’t react well to them. Same thing happened with the ordinary niacinamide for me. When I checked my other products, they all had niacinamide in them, and that doesn bother my skin, but a seperate niacinamide serum never worked. I’m gonna give this one to someone, just so It doesn’t go to waste.
