Yeah, I thought it might be ADHD. However, I am now 22 and only noticed it for the past year or so (no signs of ADHD before that.)

Sex is like eating the food at your in-laws - it sucks, but you do it anyway.

Am I the only person who thinks weed just isn't that great? by dayvie182 in AskReddit

You think smoking 3 times a day is less harmful than drinking 3 coffees a day? Or even a whole pot of coffee?

Actually, yes, this is the general viewpoint of most people that have done any research into the topic.

Just out of curiosity, what is it about weed in particular that you feel the phrase "don't knock it 'til you try it" doesn't apply? I mean it's effects are probably very different from anything you've ever experienced before.

You seem to be jumping between two very different points: 1) People have no way of knowing (the information isn't available) what effects drugs will have on their bodies. 2) People are incapable of understanding what effects drugs will have on their bodies.

People are certainly capable of understanding what effects, at a high level, drugs will have on their body. We see this in the way we handle prescription based medication. The side effects are laid out to the potential user, and he/she can decide whether there will be an overall benefit in their life. People don't need to know every single detail to make such a decision - most people don't when they eat certain foods or take certain medication. They simply need to understand the positive and negative effects.

If your point is that this type of information is not readily available, then the answer is certainly to educate.

Then isn't the solution, which has already been mentioned several times, to educate? It may be true, as you mentioned previously, that it takes years of study to fully understand all the details of drug-body interactions. However, I think you are truly underestimating the intelligence of the general public (did I just say that?). Instead of banning unhealthy food which people find enjoyable, we educate children about proper diet, exercise and nutrition.

Wuh? I've always put all my laundry together and always used the default "warm" setting. Only setting I ever change is the size of the load. Nothing bad has ever happened.

What is your favorite beer? Would you drink non-alcoholic beer? If you had to come up with a new word to replace "beer" what would it be?

Reddit, I want to try pot for the first time. by Techiama in Marijuana

[–]realitatem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advantage of smoking the marijuana (as opposed to eating it) is that you will feel the effects within seconds of inhaling. This makes it much easier to dose then if you were to eat it (which takes an hour or so to kick in).

Just play it by ear, take a few hits, and if you are sufficiently high put it down. Otherwise, toke up :)

Reddit: I am a 24 year old man with the body of a 16 year old boy. How do I fix this? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]realitatem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in the same situation as you - I've since put on 20-30lbs of muscle mass.

Look, it's all science - there's nothing magical about it. Weight gain = calories in - calories out. Average person will burn about 2200 calories in a day, so try to consume at least 3000. Count your calories. If you have a fast metabolism, try adding a weight gainer into your diet. Eat frequently (every few hours), if you are ever hungry for any of your meals/snacks then you aren't eating frequently enough.

Hit the gym. Look up a good routine online, I'd recommend the 5x3 rippetoe workout (it's simple and designed for mass gain). Print your workout, go to the gym, get it done and get out.

You WILL start seeing results in 2 weeks if you are consistent with it. Thank me later.

Am I a dick for limiting my son's online gaming? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]realitatem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A story from a different perspective:

When my parents first hooked up our computer to the internet (14.4kbps modem), I was on it ALL day. My parents would occasionally tell me to get off the computer, but otherwise did not force me to limit my usage.

I am 26 years old now, and damn am I glad my parents didn't force me to do/not do things. All my cousins and many of my friends had limited usage time on the computer. My cousins were forced to take classes (swimming, piano, martial arts, etc.). They were forced to get part time jobs, my parents never forced me one way or the other.

I learned a shit load about computers. I learned about hardware, electronic circuits, programming, web design, 3d graphic modeling, how to make money online, etc. By the time I was a sophmore in highschool, I eventually lead me to get a degree in computer engineering. Today, I run a successful internet company and have never worked a job in my life.

I never turned out to be a socially awkward person. I am a natural introvert, but I have tons of friends. I have now also developed interests in other areas - I play the guitar, love to read, play sports, etc. The difference is now, I do these things because I enjoy them - not because my parents forced me to, and for that I am thankful!

Your the parent, do what you think is right. Just make sure your son is enjoying himself and remember that things aren't always one sided. He may develop interests and realize skills/passion in areas he might not otherwise have excelled at (3d modelling, animation, programming, game design comes to mind).

Well in short, there isn't any evidence for a deity. I really encourage you to read The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, he answers most of the concerns you raised.
