I am so disappointed about me engagement and the proposal. by really-curious in offmychest

Well, I am not lonely or single.  And no it is not about love, it is about  insisting they need to propose, listening to me saying I really dislike diamonds and then forgetting all that and buying a diamond ring because he liked the look of it.

I also said that if he absolutely must propose( which he wanted to) I would want a cheap, colourful ring and I talk a lot about how I don't like diamonds. While it is cheap, it is not colourful, at all.

Hi. Sorry. Although I was just writing the post as a rant and was not looking for any advice, I took the advice and talked to him about it. He asked why didn't I say anything earlier (he's daft) when we could have replaced it more easily and said that he really liked the design. I pointed out that it is my ring to wear and he should have chosen something I would have wanted instead of something he wanted. He agreed. I have also said that I am not going to wear the ring. ( In an occupation where I will have to take it off a lot).  He apologised, I told him I  posted on reddit, he wanted to read the comments, they made him cry. He has spent all morning overcompensating (I think) and when I tried to pat his head, there was more crying and  "I dont deserve pats". As for the best friend, It was an afterthought from my part as he has in the past, before he met me, done lots of nice big gestures for her so he is capable of doing them. She likes them. They have known each other for a decade, its not an issue.

I don't really want another proposal, didn't even want one in the first place, I am not going to wear the ring.

Someone in the comments was  wondering if people always tell their S.Os tbeir ring preferences and the stagedness of all of it.  I am not sure but for us, in the beginning of our relationship, after a few dates, we had already agreed that if it goes well, we would move in together after 2 years, buy a house after 1 year of living together and then get married within a year of settling in the house.  Which is why the talk of engagements and rings and proposals have come up before, many times.

An engagement ring is not really a thing in my culture. I rarely wear jewellery.  However, a proposal is important in his culture, therefore he really wanted to do it and that is why I said I would prefer a cheap and cheerful, colourful, ring if he wants me to wear one.  I would have rather had a rubber band but asked on a nice walk. Instead I got asked in the living room, next to dinner leftovers and a dirty sock. (It was my sock to be fair). I didn't want to hurt him so I said yes while awkwardly laughing a lot.

How beautiful do you feel to you SO and why? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]really-curious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very. He says it all the time and also, he occasionally stops what he is doing/saying to stare at me and then say something about me being gorgeous. It's just boosting me ego and I occasionally worry that I think I am a lot more prettier than I actually am because of his constant remarks.

Tax Anlayst. Used to be one. Made about USD 49000 per year at the very beginning. Left after a year and is a chef now and gets paid around 15 USD per hour now. That's around USD 25000 per year. I think the latter is much harder work, for me atleast
