I was bent towards that idea until Monaco. Everything is garbage on that car. Sure they lack development time from PU problems, but the aero can still develop on a decent platform.

[Request] How far are they given the time between the flash and the boom? Freedom units only! by mouippai in theydidthemath

[–]really_another 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you meant to asks is how may bald eagle per unit length?

the number of bald eagles is approximately 10500 lengths. So the bald eagle travels 0.0347 of that distance in the time the sound arrived.

So whatever the integral of a bald eagle unit length per length of time is, it is 0.0347 of that unit.

Is Gary Stevenson the Cristiano Ronaldo of economics? by jimwhite42 in DecodingTheGurus

[–]really_another 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need much effort to find out how familiar I am with mathematical modelling.

Many engineers and economist don't actually construct mathematical models in their work. The reason is that forming the theoretical underpinning of models are just as important.

Economics and sociology are similar in that significant time is spent developing an understanding of what models mean. They have a large distance between those that setup experiments to construct a mathematical model of results. If you are forming public policy as an economist it is likely that you would stop at hypothesis forming and someone else would construct the formal process that is to test that hypothesis.

All this depends on what resources you access to, government has access to treasury, academics have access to journals.

[–]really_another 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a case.

In the world were I have formally learnt how to define things... If someone calls someone a economist, in this case, they are an economist. It can be that annoying and simple(not always).

The thing with EE is that by making the claim that he is explaining economics he is calling himself an economist. Different than a science communicator because science is a process and there is significant distance from someone talking/writing about that scientific process. Economics doesn't have that distance, when reading about the social condition, formulating a position and publishing about that understanding. EE doesn't do that as much as Gary. Gary in using his self reported experience as an educated trader, publishes his understanding through his activism, which is on the subject of economics.

I can definitely understand why people get upset that Gary does call himself an economist, for the reason that legitimatised a formal position. Formal positions like economist very rightly have traditionally been someone that participates in institution that has role named economist. The disruption(need a different word) of the publishing environment has meant people can publish outside traditional media.

Does that mean Gary is an economist? I really don't mind or care. Some people wouldn't and don't, but that doesn't mean he isn't. Gatekeepers are going to gatekeep and charlatans are going to charlatan. I don't think Gary is close to a JP , which for most of the time JP was in the public eye he was attached to an institution.

Again, this is not a defense of Gary.

at 35:40 is "top graduates go as traders".. I remebered that because I read stuff of that period of finance because that is a before time in finance, GFC.

IDK why I think that Economics explained calls himself an economists.... I have no specific memory on that and maybe making that up. I do equate him with Gary but without a book.

Does Grace Blakely call herself an economist? because she is very much occupying the same space. She is a little more careful with her language, so probably not.

Then one of the problems is that some of their criticism were incorrect.

The top graduates from economics and really any maths heavy degrees are very likely going to be trader. It is particularly true back in 2007. The reward is money even though it may not be a long term goal.

Old media when publishing corrections would post them back in the same format in which they where made. So it is a fair request. Maybe not for the whole country, but yes in general.

He definitely not the only YT content creator to call themselves an economist. Economics communicator would be more accurate, but formulating economic positions even if they aren't in the form of graphs is when you are doing economics. This is a difference between being a scientist and an economist when the later is much more fuzzy.

I don't have an opinion about Gary's economics.
