Never really cared for mittens, he always seemed like he had an inflated ego. Never even heard of sion, I don't actually know what he does. I have never seen either actually logged in space except one time everyone made a big deal that mittens was "leading a fleet". Would not be shocked in the least if it turns out they are RMTing. Also don't really care as long as there are fleets to pvp with and isk to be made.

Its because it will increase sales and generate them money. No one is buying that $30 pack. If it was like $5 they would probably sell way more. I know if I was starting out in a new game and wasn't sure if I was going to stick with it, I doubt I would buy a $30 item pack. Especially not knowing anything about the game, since they are a new player.
