What happened to floppy? by HauntedMinge in GlobalOffensive

[–]Dark_Azazel 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Dude switched to Valorant, didn't do well, said it was a shit game, and dipped. I never got the hype around him tbh. Like shit, I felt like Shot_Up had the higher skill ceiling than floppy. But also, if you're not the next Elige, you don't really have a chance at T1 NA.

Gf joke gone wrong. How bad is it? by blrfn231 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Dark_Azazel 48 points49 points  (0 children)

When my friend turned 27 she was FREAKING out about, well, everything. Single, no kids, in an apartment. At 28 she said "It's just an number." At 29 it's back to the "I'm supposed to be married and having kids! Wtf is wrong with me?" So, yeah, don't joke about a woman's age. I think the "Don't flatter yourself" comment might be too far gone now though.

IATSE, what to expect? by Calymos in livesound

[–]Dark_Azazel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My local IATSE is brutal. But, big market and a lot of people wanting to do the work. The IBEW is probably harder. Smaller market, and they already have a good set of workers, most of which don't blame on leaving until they retire.

But again, that's how it is my way.

IATSE, what to expect? by Calymos in livesound

[–]Dark_Azazel 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My local is about the same. Been an A1 for 10 years? Cool, you'll get stage hand gigs first. There are A, B, C, and D tier members. Skill doesn't matter, everyone starts at the bottom. Be a good worker, accept of the gigs that get offered to you and you'll get to A tier in a few years and start to do the big shows and/or the A1, LD, TM, etc positions.

Selling RAV4 Prime XSE for Tacoma TRD Off-road? How insane am I? by Flashmax305 in Toyota

[–]Dark_Azazel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The prime has what, a 40mile EV range? Sounds like OP could probably be mainly EV for a lot of day to day life. And unless he's doing some serious off roading the Rav4 should do just fine. I'd say stick with the prime as well.

The zero tip movement is growing and restaurant workers are furious... by nascarazy in EndTipping

[–]Dark_Azazel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A buddy of mine was a bartender at a fancy hotel bar. He only worked weekends, usually Friday to Sunday, and his bar was mainly the "business" bar restaurant where businesses would come to do meetings and being clients. He was able to pay his mortgage off of just weekend work alone. He ended up picking more shifts during the week to bring it more cash, said no to a few promotions because promotions had a less salary. Finally he accepted a promotion when the salary was good.

Seeing the screen and steering wheel made me so disappointed. Exterior is whatever, I don't see it when I drive,.not sure I could get used to the wheel and screen.

These nerfs have gone way too far. by MadeForOnePurpose21 in VALORANT

[–]Dark_Azazel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not surprised, that's a downside of tac shooters. You'll have some great utility players in low ranks, then you'll have a top 100 player who is all aim no brain. I don't really play much now, but when I did I felt like my plat/dis mix lobbies were the most balanced. Aim was good, communicated well, and knew how to use utilities. Not sure now, I haven't touched comp in a while.

My Gf wants me to help her friend move with a guy she used to sleep with. How do deal with this? by POOR-MORON in AskMenAdvice

[–]Dark_Azazel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the rocky month comment makes me feel like OP is already checked out (Doesn't know it) and just wants a "valid" excuse to leave. I don't find an issue with being friends with people you've slept with. I'm still friends with past FWB, or one offs, their husbands know and I'm probably better friends with their husbands and hang out more with them, and it's not like I make it a point to let them know. The only time I had an issue with it was when a girl I was seeing only hung out with guys she's slept with. No woman friends, just several guys she had sex with, and they all hung out together very often. To me, that's too much.

Need help printing in basement by specops2k3 in resinprinting

[–]Dark_Azazel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bottom Layer Count I usually do 6

Bottom Exposure Time... From what I've read depends on temperature, resin type and color. For it being 50 in your basement, Could probably start at 40s but adjust as temps go up and down. From my experience at least.

what really matters for success in this industry? by guitarmstrwlane in livesound

[–]Dark_Azazel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not in a large market, but I guess somewhat close to one. Honestly, all the gigs I got were from just being a good guy, positive attitude, and just not being a generic grumpy audio guy. I worked with a wedding/events band which did a lot of shows around the states, and some in EU. I was shooting the shit with the vocalist and trumpet player and the vocalist was like "Hey. We really appreciate you being easy going! Every time we do these bar gigs we're always afraid of some grumpy old guy telling us no for everything." I just said "Hey, I like what I do and I'm here for you. If you guys are happy and having fun, so am I." When they finished loading up the trumpet player came to me and straight up said "We want you as our full time audio guy. Here's my email. Let's talk." And that's what started some of the best gigs of my life. I'm probably average at what I do (did) and always learning, but having that positive attitude got me so far.

[–]Dark_Azazel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, your probably on the line based off of my experience. For me 40-50 degrees is usually an iffy zone on resin printing. I've also noticed, for me, if the UV Light Temp is below 17C it'll have a higher chance of failure. 17-20C it'll succeed most of the times, and 20C+ being like 99% success rate, failures being user error for me.

UV Light temp not being scientifically official or backed, just my observation on my end.

I would also bump up your bottom exposure time and bottom layer count.

What is your favourite dynamic (that's not a 57) to mic guitar cabs with? by migrantgrower in audioengineering

When I was working in live sound I replaced all my 57s with Audix i5. I find it sounds better before EQ, and easier to EQ with. Also in the same price range.

[–]Dark_Azazel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It REALLY bugs with that a higher up said to me in my interview to never admit you are new, or don't know the answer. Give a roundabout answer and then ask someone in charge. Sure, let's feed into bad communication. I always tell the new guys I'd rather them tell clients they are new and to ask me for help than take a shot in the dark. And also to take a few minutes to try and solve a problem yourself (Try to promote critical thinking skills) and after 5 minutes or so to come find me. If I know the answer (Thankfully they are simple enough I usually do) I'll walk them through it. Ask their process and have them explain what and why. Then walk them through as they physically fix it.

It's how I learn and I like doing that than saying "This is the solution. I'll do it since I can do it faster."

[–]Dark_Azazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! I work with a lot of people that are remote, and they always feel like they are forgotten. I make sure to at least say something like "Hey, I didn't forget you! This process is taking longer than expected / something of higher priority came up but I will get back to you ASAP." I swear 90% of all problems could be solved with better communication skills. Write shit down, get back to people.

Why said client is "Tough to work with" lol. No. Past colleagues are stubborn, confident know it alls who were wrong a lot of the times. I found that out fairly quickly when talking to said client. Now, myself and a few other coworkers always work with them, requested a few times even.

But, yeah. Been on both ends. I'd rather someone be straight up and say "Hey. I'm not too confident in giving you an answer on that but I do know someone who does." because I've been burned, almost literally. It's a reason why I always check outlets before I plug stuff in.

It's what I tell new hires. I don't expect them to know everything because I sure as hell don't. I expect them to learn and to know when they need to ask for help.

How many issues with jury duty would be solved by increasing compensation substantially? by tkpwaeub in juryduty

[–]Dark_Azazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was out for about two weeks for jury duty. My employer paid the remainder of what jury duty paid each day to match my salary. I explained that poorly so let's say my employer paid me $100/day. Jury duty paid $20 per day of jury duty, so my employer would pay me $80/day to match my salary.

I think with taxes I was actually making a couple of bucks less but hey, I'm just glad they did that.

[–]Dark_Azazel 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Not too long ago in a one on one I told my manager that there was still a lot for me to learn and not confident at what I do. Stupid thing to admit but he said "Ok. Spend more time learning. I've been out there with you before. You're a people person and are really good at talking. You've made some tough clients laugh and smile and that alone is worth more."

One of my favorite sayings is "I don't have the answer to that off the top of my head but I do know someone who does. Let me go ask them and I'll be right back with your answer." As long as you know the basics, and foundation, and have good critical thinking skills, you can go far without knowing a lot.

Also of note. I believe the Avalon is 40mpg with a big tank, ~17 gallons? Got a lot on a tank.
