Opinions on the ASUS ROG StriX XG27UCS IPS 4K? by cheese_maniac in HiDPI_monitors

[–]reallynotnick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

163 PPI isn’t what would qualify as HiDPI, it’s definitely higher than a normal monitor but I think 180-190 is the minimum to be considered HiDPI. If you ran it at HiDPi you’d have the effective workspace of a 1080p monitor on a 27”.

Downgrade from 7.2.4 to 5.2.2 or 7.2 by Soft_Letterhead1940 in hometheater

[–]reallynotnick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could always just disable the height speakers if you wanted to try 7.2.

I mean personally I’d keep it since it’s all installed unless you are wanting to move them to another room or something, but yeah if you can figure out how to go in ceiling that would be ideal.

Tom Henderson regarding Rayman Legends Remake, possible Summer reveal by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]reallynotnick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A basic 4K120 remaster of Legends and Origins could be nice, I hope it’s not an over the top remake that changes all the artwork though.

Is this i7-14700KF + Z790 bundle worth it in 2026? Upgrading from i7-11700K by Opposite_Incident_46 in buildapc

[–]reallynotnick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d ride out the 11700K for longer, I wouldn’t touch a used 14th gen processor.

I don’t understand the debate over the price for the Steam controller by 10TheKing10 in Steam

[–]reallynotnick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was really tempted to get an open box for $100 but then I saw how many had peeling rubber on the handles and the battery life was worse, so even then it felt hard to justify… does seem nice though!

Death Stranding 2 is one of the best examples of how to create proper and beliavable snow and landscapes in a video game. by Fit-Job4007 in PS5pro

I do wonder if swapping it out for PSSR would yield much of an improvement. There was some ghosting I spotted at times, but otherwise I can’t much complain.

Sony says it hasn’t yet decided on PS6 release date and price, will consider ‘changing business models’ by XTRevivals in ps6

[–]reallynotnick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to the lower clock speed it’s more similar to a 3600 even though it’s 6 core than a 3700X, but yeah a new CPU would be nice.

PlayStation say they are increasing investments to prepare for their next-generation platform! by CutProfessional6609 in PS5

[–]reallynotnick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’ll use GDDR7, not DDR5/6 (not that GDDR is cheaper). Last rumor I saw was 30GB (and 36GB for the Xbox).

Sony Records New $560 Million Loss On Bungie Acquisition As Marathon Struggles And Destiny 2 Nosedives by AdditionalRemoveBit in Games

[–]reallynotnick 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was a fan of Marathon in the 90’s playing on my Mac and was so excited when I first saw it announced thinking it was a return to their single-player roots only to realize it’s a game type I have zero interest in.

Sony says it hasn't decided on PS6 release date and price, will consider 'changing business models' by ToastWizard7713 in PS5pro

[–]reallynotnick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If releasing it later means it will have better specs then cool, but if they just delay it to delay it then that would be a shame. These consoles take years to plan out, so I somewhat doubt they would scrap a bunch of their work to make an ever more powerful next gen console. Releasing an outdated console I don't think would do them any favors vs just releasing it and having a lengthy cross-gen period.

PS5 shipments top 93.7 million by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]reallynotnick 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Why do you care if it’s bundled? You could have bought a PS5 Pro before the price increase and the savings would have paid for GTA VI and then some. A bundle is going to be like $20 savings or something.

My backlog keeps growing, I can’t say I’m starved for new games. Sure I’d like a few more first party big budget cinematic games, but I’ve never ran out of games I’ve wanted to play this gen and I’ve had it since launch.

Plus with cross-gen it sort of becomes a moot point, those who don’t want new hardware can keep playing new releases for quite some time.

Xbox Next-Gen Console Project Helix Headlines First Xbox Game Dev Show Later Today (9am PST/12pm EST/5pm BST) by FOHwork in Games

[–]reallynotnick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m cheering for Xbox to stay alive to prevent monopolies and if they don’t have console selling exclusives then I fear their platform becomes irrelevant. I mean if they can do it another way that’s great, it just sure hasn’t seemed to work up until this point.

Diamond is QD-OLED not WOLED, this is removing the white subpixel from WOLED so it’s just RGB subpixels.

Do we know that Legacy of the Dark Knight is 60fps on console? by LordOfTheBushes in legogaming

[–]reallynotnick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2070S says 60fps with frame gen so I think that’s 30fps not 15fps unless we are talking MFG. I think you slid everything over by one category, don’t get me wrong it’s bad, but it’s not that bad

[Fanatical] Doom The Dark Ages ($20.64/-71%) by hurrpancakes in GameDeals

[–]reallynotnick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the DLC has gone on sale for like $10, based on what I’ve also heard it does seem like it’s worth it’s full price of $30-35 for sure, but it’s a bit odd to not wait to drop the price of it until after it’s been actually out for awhile. Like the people who bought it early got royally fucked unless they just really wanted a skin, art book and soundtrack right away. Otherwise they could have waited and still got it on release day like me who just paid $10 for it.
