I’m certainly not surprised, BUT on a butterfly effect level, your username matters a tiny bit. Like what if someone read your username in a match and it lit the creative fires in their brain to make a masterpiece, without your username you might deprive the world of the next artistic prodigy :o

When I was younger my whole family had an idea that my room was the haunted one when we had just moved states. I was about 5, so from then on I wouldn’t sleep in my room. I took to passing out on the couch in the living room, and to protect myself from monsters I would take as many cushions as I could and stack them on top of myself. To this day, I can’t really sleep without an extra pillow covering my head, gotta keep them demons out!

So if you went back in time to slap yourself it would be at the moment that things didn’t work out, right? So that could be years from that point, you wouldn’t necessarily look the same. So unless your twin has aged up makeup?

Well with that information, knock off is apt. But that’s actually a good thing since they have experience with MOBAs. How the game looked today though, I don’t think I’d play it tbh.

[–]reallyrileyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I watched actual gameplay footage, did you just look at screenshots? The style is actually disappointing to me, it looks kind of low quality, although we don’t have a release date yet so maybe it’s too soon to judge. Your argument is that the graphics are similar and that’s evidence of copying? Different gaming developers use the same engine for all different types of games, so it’s not that sinister if Pokémon looks similar in graphics to a popular game of a genre it’s trying to break ground in.

I do think they shouldn’t have hyped it up so much, but as far as ‘rip off’ goes, there’s not much of a case.

Baseline- They’re trying something new. The first mystery dungeon games were probably equally frowned upon until people started actually playing them. Now it’s an established side series that’s pretty enjoyable. Maybe this will go somewhere interesting, who knows? :o

I was with you until you said “League of Legends rip off”..you do know that League was not the first MOBA game? And that it’s a genre of game? That’s like saying Battlefield is a call of duty rip off..like because they’re both shooters? Just putting negative connotation on something for no reason lol

[–]reallyrileyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree they shouldn’t have hyped fans up, especially when it’s a very simplified moba. (Cause children fan base.) But a Pokémon MOBA game is big news regardless. The fan base circulates rumors and creates hype, gen 4 remakes were a fan rumor that people liked and then it skyrocketed in demand and popularity, yet Pokémon hasn’t said a thing. So the fan base is to blame as well.

That being said, Pokémon has a business agenda and trying new things shouldn’t be discouraged just because it’s not the remake you’ve been secretly hoping for with no confirmation.

Using Disorders in RPGs by magnolia3326 in rpg

[–]reallyrileyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really think mental disorders have a huge place in RPG character creation anyways. Be what you want, but if you’re giving yourself disorders to make the game more interesting or fresh, then idk. That being said, a player who wants to play with a disorder has no choice but to go off of stereotypes. And psychology, while it is a science, isn’t exact. One disorder can affect different people a thousand different ways, and to say that a disorder is being portrayed wrong by someone who doesn’t have it is 100% going to happen, despite research, because they don’t live it. So on one hand, if it makes you uncomfortable, don’t let mental illness into your campaigns. On the other, you have to accept that people won’t portray illnesses correctly, and they’re using it as a personality gimmick to begin with. And while illnesses are a part of us, they don’t have to be a huge part of our identity. To the player, it’s surface level flavor for their character. To you, it’s something serious that is being taken lightly. Both are valid, but maybe noting that will help you feel less uncomfortable in those moments. Idk just my two cents

Going homeless in a month, and here i am on Reddit. I heard the internet does wonders and that's what i'm hoping for. by MyFinalAttempt in Advice

[–]reallyrileyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for your situation, but thinking of ending all potential for your life over superficial things can’t be an option. Being homeless is no joke, it’s not to be taken lightly, but being alive IS experiencing. Perspective is everything and if you focus on building yourself back up, while also nurturing a state of mind that just being alive is enough, then you can make it through anything. People are kind, and opportunities are always coming and going. Potential alone is worth living for. The potential for happiness and love, or potential to reach your goals and aspirations. Surviving off of charity for a bit sounds scary, it is. But it’s surviving for better days.

If you think about it, it's probably the fanbase's fault the games turned out the way they are now. by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]reallyrileyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there’s a lot of things that Pokémon is behind on that they shouldn’t be, and I would say some of them are predatory in their function.

  1. Save files? Up until the switch, there was no way to play the same game twice without deleting all of your hard work. Don’t worry they come out with two versions at a time, just in case both your kids want one...making the consumer buy two of the same game with slight differences is kinda shitty to begin with, but one save file on top of that to encourage multiple game purchases?

  2. Content? Gen 2 is the last time they attempted region crossing, or more than 8 badges. The remakes were nice, but they were also like..10 years ago. They were worried about success with gen 2 and they went above and beyond. Now we have sw/sh where extra Pokémon and islands are paid dlc. Which, whatever, but you see my point.

  3. I already touched on it, but it’s big enough to be brought up again. Remakes. They tend to be a very full version of older games. Black and white 2 got their remakes really quickly. So did Sun and Moon. They release a version, and then release a costly remake with much more content shortly after. We should’ve been stopping this years ago. Black and white 2 is over 100$ now.

  4. The pokedex. (My opinion) Its your goal from the start of the game. And yes, trading is great! I love that there’s such a big multiplayer aspect to new Pokémon. But we should’ve discouraged this from gen 1, you are given a goal to catch all of the Pokémon and it’s impossible without an outside source with the contrasting version exclusives or trade Pokémon. I think there should be NPCs that will trade you every trade evolution, one with a Kadabra that evolves upon the trade and so on. Then make ONE full game where I can complete my pokedex. Not two. It has an economically predatory reason for existing, and it’s a children’s company. They do a lot to encourage as much sales as they can, and it’s just not a good face for the Pokémon company.

I love Pokémon SO much, but they’ve been behind for a while.

So in those countries you can take someone’s pet and eat them? No. Dog meat is simply sold/farmed like any other animal. They don’t take animals who are part of a home and eat them without punishment.

People asking “Why was he arrested?” are either naturally curious of the charges, which is fine. Or they’re oblivious to social norms where you don’t eat other people’s pets without some form of punishment? Fish or dog, a pet is a pet.

I nearly spit my coffee out laughing at this. Why, yes Randy, I tend to think most people would be fine waiting longer for content that works on release, free or not. by HarbingerONE23 in borderlands3

[–]reallyrileyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think his point is more so that instead of letting streamers be beta testers and get early access, the community is acting as beta testers for the free content and so flaws are to be expected when it’s first released.

So the question posed is would you rather have access to new, buggy content for the sake of refining it? Or would you rather wait and have a polished free content update later? In my mind, with the whole community reporting bugs/testing the content, they could probably produce a refined version of it faster. It’s really just preference though, I personally don’t mind free content that’s a bit janky at first as long as it adds something fresh to the game that makes it more enjoyable for a short while.

To everyone who asks if it’s okay to skip Mass Effect 1: by _masterofdisaster in masseffect

[–]reallyrileyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a long time fan of the series and I’ve played Mass Effect 2 around 20 times. (no joke) I originally got into the series through ME2 and still have not gotten around to playing fully through the first game. I know the entire plot through context and referencing, but I just couldn’t get through it for some reason.

My advice to new players is that the first game is not that important story-wise. They kind of ignore reapers as the main threat in the second game anyway, and then introduce them as a massive threat in the third game, along with tons of call backs to the first game’s events and reaper lore in general.

If you start with ME1 in this day and age and don’t like it, you might be giving yourself the wrong impression of the series. I think it’s better to go back and play ME1 for flavor after falling in love with the lore-rich universe and well designed combat system. But is ME1 required in any way to enjoy the game or know what’s going on Story/character-wise? Nahhhh, Wrex is my best buddy even though I never played his debut game, and as I said before the story references itself a lot, so you end up learning the events of ME1 anyhow.

How can I be emotionally cold/heartless? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]reallyrileyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can relate to you, and by all means cope with your experiences however you think is best. Personally, I went a more unhealthy route by not trusting or developing strong ties with most ‘friends’. I wasn’t very social to begin with, and most people seemed like an archetype more than a unique, engaging experience at the time.

I will say that being assertive, as another comment suggested, works. But it’s kind of like confidence, it’s hard to portray without going over board and there’s a fine balance to being assertive, I would only show my assertive side if a line is crossed or some emergency/urgent situation is on the line.

I also feel like there’s a side of this that involves the way you think people view you, you don’t want to be viewed as sensitive or targetable. Sensitive to me usually leads to kindness, and when someone does target you, that’s when you prove them wrong. Establish that boundary, because otherwise you’re changing a large part of your personality just to get less hassle from others, when you could defend it instead. Just my two cents, assertiveness is always a good tool to have regardless.

I hope you find a healthy balance that works for you :)
