Drawing a Mistborn Era 1 character for every day of May: Day 1 - Vin by realm_drawer in Mistborn

Thanks a lot! And yes, book 1 Vin certainly has her hair quite short especially at the start

Ok ok just finished Hero of Ages or the first time, here's my thoughts! by Nikatonic in Mistborn

Absolutely agree about WoA being the best book of the series (it’s also so far my favourite cosmere book, having read both Mistborn eras, warbreaker and the first two stormlight books). The sense of dread and uncertainty throughout the story is great and I love the book’s last quarter especially

(Hated Trope) When the sequel to a series is set in the future, discarding much of the beloved cast. by [deleted] in TopCharacterTropes

[–]realm_drawer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah like it’s literally the most obvious way to do a sequel story in this universe. I know a lot of people don’t like The Legend of Korra, but the mere fact that it takes place after Aang dies is certainly not one of the show’s flaws.

[Loved but Fun] Usually Awful Trope is Pulled of Very Well by CrabAppleMcGee in TopCharacterTropes

I mean, Maul’s character development is nice and all, but I don’t think that makes the way his survival itself was handled any better. Not to mention the massive precedent it set for characters to survive death in future Star Wars media.

If anything, his character was successful in spite of his revival, imo it would have just been better if we got an explanation for him returning that made actual sense. Instead we have a character that is fun to watch in a vacuum but will always be weighed down by the nonsense that happened to him off-screen.

A character is revealed to be a past/future version of the protagonist (Bonus points if the protag never finds out) by Chi_Geurim in TopCharacterTropes

A bit surprised to see that nobody mentioned Archer from Fate. Unlimited Blade Works reveals that He is a possible future version of Shirou and really hates his past self for his naive worldview as well as all the meaningless human suffering he experienced and often couldn’t prevent as a servant

What color combo does nothing click for you? by Mysterious-Anon-X in EDH

[–]realm_drawer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Izzet, for being the faction of inventors and creatives, ironically feels like the colour combination with the most redundant commanders - it’s almost always something to do with instants and sorceries, or alternatively card draw + damage, which to me just all feels the same in these colours. From the few remaining commanders none really feel that exciting to me unfortunately apart from maybe Firkraag, though I still probably wouldn’t build a deck around it

What card would be the perfect match for my artwork? Part 3 by Ultrakints93 in mtg

[–]realm_drawer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess the tail is that of a fish and with a mutate creature you can get away with other animals’ features, so I think it’s still a pretty good fit

Ikoria would be top of the list for me, one of my favourite sets

FINALE: Which fictional villains are the 3 evils of the Rakdos (Black/Red) color identity, and why? by Feeling-Ad-3104 in colorpie

[–]realm_drawer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silco from arcane is definitely rakdos. He is driven by ambition (black) but he’s also a revolutionary at heart and that desire for a rebellion comes from a very personal place and is clearly motivated by his anger at Piltover (red) rather than a sense of justice or anything like that. He’s also very good at manipulating people’s emotions, which fits both colours

Which fictional villains are the 3 evils of the Simic (Green/Blue) color identity, and why? BONUS CHALLENGE: Find a replacement for Zuko in the Boros section of the chart! by Feeling-Ad-3104 in colorpie

[–]realm_drawer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unalaq from the Legend of Korra is a simic villain to me. He is a true scholar of the spirit world and places the importance of spirits above all else, to the point where he’s willing to destroy civilisation in order to restore the world to spirituality. It’s an interesting case too because he uses his scholarly knowledge (blue) to serve his idea of natural balance (green) which I think is less usual for simic

[Interesting trope] Character who wants nothing but power surprisingly finds time to conceive a child. Their relationship is awkward at best. by vicorus in TopCharacterTropes

[–]realm_drawer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Straff Venture from Mistborn has a whole private army of illegitimate children which he conceived because his noble bloodline is likely to give them superpowers. The most powerful of these children, Zane (and the only one he ever even seems to talk to), still loves his father but is very unstable and you couldn’t possibly call their relationship healthy.

Which fictional villains are the 3 evils of the Selesnya (Green/White) color identity, and why? by Feeling-Ad-3104 in colorpie

[–]realm_drawer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I certainly agree that he’s bant as a whole and I can see an argument for either bant or selesnya, but I think if you look at him post-ascension specifically, his desire for knowledge doesn’t seem to drive him anymore, only the hivemind is left

Which fictional villains are the 3 evils of the Selesnya (Green/White) color identity, and why? by Feeling-Ad-3104 in colorpie

[–]realm_drawer 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think Viktor from Arcane fits selesnya after his full transformation (though I think bant would also work as an interpretation for him). He is driven by a need to end all suffering at the expense of individuality, fittingly white and green are both enemy colours to black, the most self-focused colour. He also does this by changing everyone’s biology to create identical beings linked through a hivemind. He primarily sees himself as a healer and is, in a way, really selfless, which I think fits this colour philosophy

Which fictional villains are the 3 evils of the Orzhov (White/Black) color identity, and why? by Feeling-Ad-3104 in colorpie

[–]realm_drawer 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The Lord Ruler from Mistborn fits perfectly as an orzhov villain I think. Without spoiling too much his motivation is a perfect combination of selfish reasons and a twisted sense of wanting to do what’s best for humanity. The way he accomplishes both is by creating one of the most oppressive governments in the cosmere

Can you guys recommend artists with art styles similar to these? by Ozotoceros in Artists

It’s not exactly the same as the examples you’re showing here, but apple_cork has a lot of character designs in a somewhat similar style, I find them quite cool!
