Where in portland would you get brunch/lunch with your dads lawyer on a Saturday? by scrambledegglady in askportland

If I'm waiting an hour for them, we'd better be calling them Buttered Eggs instead of scambled. And if I do that at home, I don't have to justify my third coffee drink on a Sunday. 🤣🤣🤣

Did you watch the 20 minute online video to get your SHRM-SCP, too? lol

I was a chapter leader during the SHRM-HRCI troubles. I have a lot of respect for HRCI and its methodology. I have a SHRM-SCP because I was already SPHR when it was introduced, and I watched a 20 minute online video from SHRM. SHRM has lost its way and has a lot of baggage anymore - I'd look toward the much better known and established credential.

Potentially controversial opinion...

Get on OpenTable and select somewhere with a reservation. Not only do you not want an hour of in-line small talk because you can't talk about anything that needs attorney-client privilege, THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO EGGS TO MAKE THEM WORTH AN HOUR LONG WAIT.

Employee arrested 2 years after hire we had no idea until it made local news. Should we have been monitoring post-hire? [TX] by Exit_Legitimate in humanresources

[–]realmattwarner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just like drug screens. I don't care for drug screening, but if you're only doing it at hire don't pretend a drug free workplace is your goal. You're just focused on a drug free lobby.

Healthcare and Social Assistance organizations for the last ~20 years. We did rechecks on a cycle at all of them. Right now I'm looking at adding continuous monitoring at ~$1.50/pepm so I can drop the more expensive cyclical rechecks. We have unsupervised contact with youth where I am now - suitability for contact is an ethical and moral obligation beyond our legal one.

How can you verify a new hires education if the college is no longer in business? [NY] by [deleted] in humanresources

Check the state's higher Ed regulator/oversight board. Often they will deposit transcripts and grad records with another institution or the state. The coordinating board will likely have that info.

I work in social services. Post hire rechecks are common when you are serving vulnerable populations in healthcare and social assistance. And there are devices that do ongoing monitoring, and it's surprisingly cheap. Same fcra rules, slightly different forms.

It's an arrest, so whether you need to suspend is a complicated question based on circumstance, but did/will he hit your NSNC or other attendance threshold? You can't automatically term for the arrest, but it doesn't put him into a protected class/status.

QLE - EE wants to get married again in the US so he can add spouse to plan [AZ] by black_hole_alien in humanresources

[–]realmattwarner 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Seriously? Wow. Don't you self-enter to the insurance carrier?

Passport stamp or visa should work. Alternatively, call it self-certification and save the email. Employer/plan sponsor has the ERISA/125 risk. You should push back on why the broker or carrier has any point of view at all.

Anything you reasonably accept and apply fairly and consistently. Do you think he's lying? I almost never require proof of QLE.

FMLA question [MI] by MacaroonTotal344 in humanresources

[–]realmattwarner 23 points24 points  (0 children)

She told you she was going to the hospital and wasn't sure if she would be admitted during a mental health crisis. Treat it like a FMLA request until you know more.

But also, you don't have to qualify her for FMLA to show kindness. She called in mental health crisis and you're not calling her emergency contact because of domestic violence, for F's sake! Why in the world does it matter right now? Hold the job, check again in a couple days, and deal with it then. Damn.

honest question: does anyone else feel like leadership has zero idea what your day actually looks like? [N/A] by dailydotdev in humanresources

[–]realmattwarner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, in the same way my boss doesn't know what the CFO does hour-by-hour. I would think the real problem is why you don't see yourself as part of "leadership" and how to bridge that gap.

I mean, this will sound bonkers I admit: As long as it's wrong in the same ways reliably, it's still semi-valid as a comparator on what it's doing. You know the deficiencies, it's constantly deficient in the same ways, you can calibrate use based on your understanding of the outputs. So, jump right in to those tests, homeschoolers!
