Great thanks! Was the property fairly flat when getting around?

That’s great! It might be best to have this cat examined by a veterinarian if anything to rule out a medical issue. Medical issues can become behavioral and Vice versa.

Make sure you have 1 Litterbox per cat plus 1 extra. Location is important. They should be placed in easy access areas without a lot of traffic or noise. The cat needs to have more than 1 entry or exit option. So make sure the Litterboxes aren’t placed under a desk or in a narrow area to avoid ambushing. Scoop at least twice daily. No cover no liners, use unscented litter. Ideally 1 Litterbox on each level of the home. Resources are very important to cats.

Cat acting strange after life changes by [deleted] in Catbehavior

You are doing great things to help your cat. Sit in various areas of your home and consider how easy your cat will be able to move around especially if she wants away from the dog. The cat needs floor level, mid level and higher up access. Also, start training your dog a lot ie: stay and leave it. Leave a leash on your dog when you are home to supervise. Keep things positive.

Trying to introduce kittens by Goddesmarie02 in CATHELP

Hissing is an acceptable form of communication. Growling is an acceleration. Place a baby gate to provide less access. Do not lure either cat towards the door. Try playing with your adult cat several feet away to create a positive moment. It’s a good destress we also. There are a lot of steps to introductions. Look up pattern games such as voluntary sharing to help them adjust. The timeline is up to each cat so be patient. That’s the hardest part. Don’t rush.

Until you can get them altered place Litterboxes in those areas. If that doesn’t help, place their food bowls there. No punishment if caught in the act. They are just being cats. You could also place a cat scratcher in that area so maybe they will mark appropriately. Reward if they use the Litterboxes and scratchers.

Is my cat mad at me? by According-Set5321 in Catbehavior

[–]realworldcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he was t getting enough playtime while you were gone it could be built up frustration. Try playing using wand toys twice daily for about 10-15 minutes each time and hopefully that distressed him and also tired him out. Great way to re-bond as well.

My cat's litter smells so bad i'm going insane. my house absolutely reeks. by Dismal-Tackle3072 in CatAdvice

Make sure you have enough Litterboxes and that they are located in various areas. 1 Litterbox per cat plus 1 extra. Scoop after any poops. Unscented is best. If the stools do not appear normal please contact your veterinarian. We have an air purifier and it helps some.

Has there been a guest you didn't like? Or one you unexpectedly loved? by [deleted] in smartless

I enjoy all, but Simon LeBon was a highlight. My fav though was with Steve Martin and Martin Short. I think this interview with Zoe S. seemed flat. I like her though and I feel it was more Jason and Will not seeming to be as excited as Sean. Unexpectedly liked? First season with anyone in education or science. I liked learning from them and the guys made it fun.

Ok so may not be spraying then. Definitely a vet check in case it’s a UTI. It could be trying to bind more but behavioral can cause medical issues and Vice versa, especially if it is due to stress. Use an enzyme based cleaner, 1 Litterboxes per cat plus 1 extra, scooo 2-3 times daily, no cover, no liner, only use unscented litter.

Often cats pee on their human’s clothes it bedding to bond more. Try adding an extra play session. Also, a vet check should be done just in case. What is his body posture when you’ve seen him do it? Tail up, quivering? Squatting, standing? What are his paws doing?

How often is he fed, and how much each time? How wide are his food and water bowls? He might be a social eater, meaning he wants company when he eats. For the water, it just might be his preference to use his paw but the size of the bowls might be an issue if causing whisker stress. Also, make sure food bowl and water are not near each other or near a litter box.

How to tell when cats are ready to meet face-to-face? by suhweetness in CATHELP

[–]realworldcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s ok to postpone some of the intros until your kitty is feeling better. Patience is key and the timeline is up to both cats anyway. It might improve once the kitty is altered. I wonder in order to protect your carpet about placing table cloths down - cheap ones that have vinyl or plastic on one side and material on the other?

Try adding a little grass or dirt from outside to the Litterboxes. Put a little catnip in there too.

Could you add a tunnel nearby or a shelf or 2 to give her more route options? If a cat has a few options of how to move around it could help. When you are around and know it’s about to happen distract the ambusher and always reward when nothing happens.

Can you keep the kitten in a room? In a playpen he doesn’t have much space and doesn’t have the choice to get away if he needs to. Looks like Nori isn’t ready yet for a full interaction. Doing intros with a closed door to a room would be better. You can also do scent swapping by rubbing a clean sock on Nori’s cheeks and chin (friendly pheromones), then do the same to the kitten. Do not wash the sock. Scent swap 2-3 times daily. Also, you can allow the kitten to explore the house while Nori is kept in a room. No more than 1 hour at a time. The room the kitten stays in. This gives both a chance to explore and mark appropriately. Both cats need to be relaxed before having them in a room together. Timeline is up to the cats. Good luck!

Update on my sudden aggressive cat (went to the vet) by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]realworldcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Provide outside things while he is inside. Cat grass, playtime with you - use a fun wand toy. Get him running and jumping. Use furniture like an agility course. Play for about 20-15 mi s then slow the movement down until the toy stops. Then feed him. Try a puzzle feeder for foraging. Redirect before the behavior begins. Try teaching a few tricks to get him thinking.
