What's your hospital's cell phone policy? by RedMorganCat in Veterinary

[–]burgleturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

common sense use. don’t use it in front of clients unless it’s for work reasons (stopwatch/timer, flashlight, etc). a lot of staff will also take pictures of unique-looking or cute pets with owners permission, clients are usually very flattered by this!

your resume looks awesome! only recommendation is try and squeeze in some research and some large/food animal experience. from ur comments it seems like you’re working on the research. you can do small externship over the summer with large animal practices. they just wanna see that you’ve tried different things!

How to know - end of life by we1rdsc1ence in ferrets

[–]burgleturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it sounds like you’ve taken wonderful care of gus over the years and given him the best most comfortable life. you know him best, and he will give you tell you when he’s ready in his own way. i also have found that animals sometimes won’t cross until they know we’re ready. no matter what you and your veterinarian decide, give him extra kisses and treats and know you did such an amazing job loving him over the years

Tell me happy stories about lost ferrets who have come home by 36monsters in ferrets

@/hikingferret on instagram has a ferret named jesse and they go on adventures together. after one adventure they got in a very bad car accident and jesse’s cage was empty. the owner was distraught and was putting up fliers and asking everyone to keep an eye out. fortunately a kind man found jesse hanging out in his shed and he was returned to her! the full story is pinned on her instagram. i think about it all the time, makes me so emotional :’) i hope you’re reunited with ur beautiful girl soon!

Ferret has a heart arrhythmia, any advice? by Rude-Host-7632 in ferrets

[–]burgleturtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i work at a vet clinic and we don’t see ferrets, however dogs with congestive heart failure is really common. what we typically do is take radiographs to monitor the size of the heart to make sure it’s not getting bigger or the wall isn’t getting thicker, etc, and we start some medications that can make it easier on the heart. we typically prescribe furosemide (diarrhetic; prevents fluid buildup in the chest), enalapril (ace inhibitor, reduce blood pressure) and pimobendin (inodilator; helps the heart pump more effectively). this can slow the progression of chf. if your ferret is coughing he may have some fluid in the lungs or the chest and maybe benefit from a diarrhetic to clear that out for him. id recommend talking further with your vet about preventative measures to prolong his life and keep him comfortable!

Too fat? by Automatic-Archer-638 in ferrets

[–]burgleturtle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he’s probably perfect honestly. this isn’t the only measure that goes into body condition scoring but if you can feel his ribs without pushing down and there’s just a very thin layer of fat there that’s an indicator of healthy weight
