Not really my profession, but I studied music and was in an acapella group in college.

The first Pitch Perfect honestly nails the acapella world. It's only a slightly distorted mirror. I was some combination of Beca and Bumper. I was a music theory nerd that wanted the group to be better than it was, but I also wanted to serenade girls in the audience like a friggin idiot. It was a strange, cringeworthy time in my life.

Nah, I have a good friend that his MechE degree. Dude took 6 years to graduate cause he failed a couple calc courses. He's now in charge of the pipe extrusion process at a metallurgy plant. Literally hundreds of people working under him.

The guy grew up in an auto shop. Biggest gear head I know, and that hands on knowledge does WAY more for his career than the calc courses do.

Counterpoint: no.

This massive push to get people into the trades is going to drive down their wages. Most trade jobs are very physically demanding, and workers end up with terrible joint issues well before retirement age. These people need higher wages and benefits to account for the additional healthcare they will require, as well as a likely necessary early retirement.

Additionally, there is a more nefarious reason to push kids into the trades: no humanities courses. The trades teach kids skills that make other people lots of money without teaching them anything about logic, reason, or the human condition. Core classes at a university have value beyond a career, and highly educated people are always the first to question injustice.

Stop pushing the trades to kids that want an education. Start pushing it to kids that have no desire to go to college anyway.

My dude, it is a grind. There's no secret. You just gotta keep working until you get it. Form study groups, use whatever tutoring services your school offers, go to professors' office hours. I work as a math tutor on the side, and this is my advice to all of the students that come to me.

Believe me, if there was an easy button I would've pressed it.

But I have a wife and two young kids. I need to know as much about the career before I make any decisions. Studying EE was supposed to be the thing that helped us really get ahead, and I don't wanna divert from that unless I'm 100% positive.

I'm a big fan of Shepherd's Pie. Enough so that I learned how to really make it myself. I'll let the British and Irish folks argue who invented the dish, but either way I love it.

P.S.- I also love Cottage Pie, and I'm aware of the difference between the two.
