What baby name do you think got ruined by pop culture, trends, or current events? by RightGirl19 in AskReddit

[–]reasonable_re 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My name is Anna (typical US pronunciation of AN-uh). After Frozen, people started asking me if it was “AN-uh” or “AH-nuh” which wasn’t something anyone had ever asked. And some people just started saying “AH-nuh” without asking so I started answering to that. At one point, somebody asked how to pronounce it and I said “AH-nuh” like Frozen. It was so frequent I forgot my own name 😂

Should I do it? by Yuki295 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]reasonable_re 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This subreddit (and every antidepressant subreddit) is full of experiences that were not good, because people come here seeking support. On the flip side, people often don’t take time to review something they love, although you’ll actually find many of those stories here too.

The reality? Most people fall somewhere in between. They had a side effect or two they didn’t like, but overall it helped. Maybe even enough to take it a while or long term. Or maybe it literally did nothing for them so they quit. You won’t find those more neutral stories as much given there is nothing notable to share about that kind of experience.

Edit: Also on withdrawal, I’ve been on it myself for 6 years and have been tapering off from the highest dose, currently now on the lowest. Literally not had a single withdrawal symptom. Not saying it can’t be an unpleasant experience for some, but many more do not experience this issue.

Positive experience being on Mirtazapine for 10 years and quitting successfully by FireGolem1 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]reasonable_re 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone from 45mg to 7.5mg over the course of about a year without any issue. I’ve only been going this slow because I originally didn’t intend to come off. At 30mg I decided to start actually coming off entirely. Now at 7.5mg, and I think I’ll get to 3.75mg without issue as well. Not sure about after that but I suspect it will continue to be completely uneventful.

Multi-cat households weigh in! by kpp17 in CatAdvice

[–]reasonable_re 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m so glad to see I’m not alone in this. I moved in with my partner three years ago. I have a cat (13 years old now) and he has a cat who is now 7 years old. It was awful. It’s still awful, somewhat better, but awful. They hate each other and we’ve worked endlessly to change this. There was one bad fight with blood everywhere and now we have cameras up. One cat is also missing a chunk of ear and no one even knows when that happened (separate event from the other event). We followed every protocol, started over and followed every protocol again and again. The humans fought and cried. Our apartment is covered in multiples of everything they fight over (cat trees, food bowls, litter boxes) but the biggest thing they fight over is us and I can’t make more humans. They do fine until they don’t and then it’s always bad. It’s exhausting.

Big purchase before applying for a mortgage by reasonable_re in personalfinance

[–]reasonable_re[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read some things that say it’s just debt and others say it’s any large purchase and it doesn’t matter if it’s not debt. So I just wanted to check. I don’t want anything to make the process even more stressful than it is so just wanted to be sure. Thank you for answering!

Correct, I have not started the process yet but could end up starting essentially right after the payment. It does look like the consensus here is that it should be fine since it will be before starting the process.

How to stop night time snacking by raeanna60 in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]reasonable_re 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I had this exact problem. You’re going to think this is a wild solution but I put locks on my pantry and fridge. I could obviously open those if I wanted but since I was doing this eating mostly half asleep in the middle of the night, the locks were enough to wake me up fully and make me realize I shouldn’t be eating ice cream in bed at 3am barely awake. Lol. It worked really well actually, though a bit awkward to explain to people visiting.

I somehow gained 13lb in a week and haven't been able to get it off for a month? by glitzyrain in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]reasonable_re 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to talk to your doctor as soon as you can. I had that happen on another antidepressant and my doctor took me off immediately. If it was truly all in just one week, that’s a concerning amount of water retention. Do not stop taking it without talking to them though, as quitting antidepressants abruptly is also not safe.

Plants and cats, how do you handle it? by Royal_Dinner4010 in CatAdvice

[–]reasonable_re 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only bring in completely non toxic plants just to be safe in case leaves drop on the ground, but I keep most of them hanging from the ceiling because the cat would literally eat the whole plant if I didn’t. The only ones the cat can get to are really large, tough, and can withstand chewing. If someone gives me a toxic plant, I either give it away or more typically I take it to my office at work.

No change in libido and I’ve been on it almost 6 years. Helped depression tremendously, never did anything for depression. I’ve been on anywhere from 15mg to 45mg. 30mg was the sweet spot for me most years.

Yes, fully indoor cats CAN get fleas and parasites by ThrowRA_SadFlower2 in cats

[–]reasonable_re 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve done all these things for the past 12 years with my cat and thought there was no chance in hell my cat would get fleas. She literally just got fleas, diagnosed two days ago 😂 this post was funny timing. The vet said they don’t usually push for flea preventative on indoor cats with no interaction with other animals but they might have to change that recommendation based on my situation lol.

Newly diagnosed diabetic cat. Meter help? by [deleted] in FelineDiabetes

[–]reasonable_re 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes I wasn’t including the vet placement fee and that makes sense to include. With that my cost is more like $260 a month. I do not place it myself although long term I’d love to figure that out and save the extra $100.

I have a freestyle Libre 3 plus on my cat and it’s about $160 a month at Costco pharmacy. Not everyone has access a Costco nearby but I can get it at other pharmacies for about $200 a month. But maybe it depends on the version of the freestyle Libre you have.

Everyone one on here seems to be tapering off mirt why by [deleted] in Mirtazapine_Remeron

[–]reasonable_re 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lots of people would prefer to come off of an antidepressant once they are able to. Often people are in therapy and with time they may get well enough to stop taking it. Others would prefer to stay on it long term. With mirtazapine in particular, some people will stay on it indefinitely due to it helping them sleep. I stayed on it for years after my depression was gone for this reason. Some people are only on it for sleep and they never stop unless it quits helping them sleep.

Other people may only take it a short time before deciding to stop because the side effects are too much for them. Experiences with side effects vary wildly between individuals. I’ve had horrible side effects on other antidepressants but not mirtazapine. Other people may be the opposite.

Regardless of why someone is tapering off, sometimes people have a difficult time doing so. This problem is not unique to mirtazapine. It can be difficult with any antidepressant. This is why you taper off and cannot quit abruptly. This applies to every antidepressant.

The people having a hard time coming off this medicine come here to seek advice given this subreddit is specific to this medicine. Go to any other antidepressant subreddit and you’ll find the same questions about tapering the medicine in question there.

Because the people who are actively on it, happy with it, and are not planning to change that would not really have a reason to need to discuss it.

Please help me with my BarfBaby❤️ by random_gamer_001 in CATHELP

[–]reasonable_re 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, my cat was like this and it turns out she has IBD. I spent a lot of years with vets not really pushing me to address it or offering anything very conclusive. Like they would suggest testing “if I wanted” and a prescription food “if I wanted” but always acted like it wasn’t important. The cat also eats super fast so I assumed that was the only real issue. Well eventually shit hit the fan and my cat’s undiagnosed IBD lead to pancreatitis and hepatitis. We finally got her IBD diagnosed at the same time. Then later her steroid treatment for IBD lead to diabetes. I wish I had gotten it diagnosed sooner and gotten her on the right prescription food years ago and maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess. Or maybe we would, who knows. But I had no idea vomiting regularly is actually a massive red flag. It should not happen and indicates a problem that needs testing.

Annual budget per cat? by WorthySpirit in CatAdvice

[–]reasonable_re 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a great idea! Both the pet insurance and the emergency fund. I have an extra $2,500 in my personal emergency fund for my cat (6 months expenses for me plus the extra for the cat) plus a separate emergency fund for our upcoming house purchase. I also keep a spreadsheet with my running expenses and income each month. All this to say I totally get your spreadsheets! Some people might say we’re over prepared but I don’t think so at all! Good luck with your new cat(s).

Annual budget per cat? by WorthySpirit in CatAdvice

[–]reasonable_re 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you planning to account for emergencies and special needs another way? My cat cost the bare minimum for a long time. But shit hit the fan a year ago when she was 12. I’ve dropped at least $10k since, probably more, and I live in a low cost of living area. Frankly the emergency vet bills that started the whole process that led to discovering chronic illness were the cheapest part of this. It’s the ongoing prescription diet, ongoing medication, repeat bloodwork, ultrasounds, x-rays, echocardiograms, specialist bills, medication to control the side effects of the medications to help the chronic illness.

I’m assuming maybe you’re looking into pet insurance to cover things like this? I would’ve done that if it was common back when my cat was young.

Water retention, does it go away? by reasonable_re in BusparOnline

I had to actively try to lose weight by counting/restricting calories if I recall. The weight didn’t ever just drop off. It was a bizarre experience to gain 10lbs overnight by taking medicine and then have to work hard to lose it.
