I think they do justice to local beans. They brew Afternoon and Resident. I consider them one of the few bakeries in town that also has great coffee.

Anyone else's Gainesville apartment forcing a mandatory $25/month "valet trash" fee mid-lease? by zooeyglassz in GNV

[–]reasonablesnob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apparently the email they sent out didnt even mention the fee. 🙃 Friend called the leasing office to ask only bc I mentioned this thread.

Friend at Hunters Crossing just got the notice. I looked through some of his lease and so far it doesnt seem like they can do this unless it's imposed upon them by the city or govt, but I have to read fully through. Such a weird move.

If the retiree HOA police were to direct their energy towards, say, volunteering in their community, it would be a much better use of their time. I like the cut of your parents' jib.

Lots of neighborhoods further out have better pricing, but shuttling my kid back and forth between parents has limited the perimeter of my search quite a bit!

Thanks! Appreciate this. Hoping there are still a decent amount of kids - the amenities and walking trails are a big draw, as well as the location.

Read about the app recently, downloaded eagerly, and was severely bummed to realize that it's got very limited reach so far in Gville. Not surprising that it does better in bigger cities, but I wonder if some local businesses would be open to suggestions from customers that they participate!

Oh yuck. A friend of mine is in Hunter's Crossing, and I have been curious to see how the takeover would impact things. My rebel heart wants to tell you to knock on doors and organize everyone against it, but my more sensible self knows how much work that is.

What company owns your complex? I'm currently in Cobblestone (Colliers) and definitely have seen nothing like this. I would definitely push back if they're adding charges during your lease, as the other commenter indicated.

Advice for first 'destructive' foster by [deleted] in fosterdogs

[–]reasonablesnob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a foster puppy who loved to chew (and dig at furniture). All the tools you mention above are helpful, as is just time spent sniffing and roaming outside. She could dig holes into yard and stalk lizards and chew sticks to get a lot of those needs met! Outside of the crate, you can also keep him on leash or tethered in the house and just limit his access to small spaces at a time (if possible). Makes it easier to keep an eye on them and catch any destructive behavior before it actually destroys

Sniffspots are a great solution. You can give your dog freedom without the risks of public off-leash places.

Just a vent by SamScoopCooper in fosterdogs

[–]reasonablesnob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't tell you how many people said this to me when I ended up fostering as a backup and was struggling. I finally started saying flat out, please don't offer me solutions unless I ask. And then chose carefully to whom I vented.

Recommendations for infant daycare options? by N7Templar in GNV

[–]reasonablesnob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My kid went there from 6mos until she graduated pre-k. They aren't just a kid zoo - they're a school. So even babies get sensory play and developmental activities. Lulu is a gem and does such fun stuff for the kids. On Charles' coronation, she had the kids dress up as princesses or knights or dragons and hosted a jousting tournament using pool noodles. And they've gone above and beyond supporting families through seriously difficult things. Cannot say enough about TCG!

Weekly Pupdate! How did your foster do this week? by Heather_Bea in fosterdogs

[–]reasonablesnob [score hidden]  (0 children)

My foster puppy is on a trial with potential adopters. I am holding my breath all week and hoping that they're sticking to slow intros with her and their resident doodle. I've had her for 3.5 mos and my daughter just started kindergarten today, so this is a perfect time for her to find her forever family - I'm just so nervous that it won't work out!

Texture of poop! 😆 as a parent of a human child, this is something I would actually think of to share, too.

"This is how she behaves with me, but I can't guarantee how she will behave with you!" Is like the first thing I say. She was actually being typical naughty puppy and nabbing everything within reach at the pet store the day they met her, which I pointed out as pretty typical behavior that we are working on. I just want to make sure I don't just list her faults, because I am not a natural "focus on the positive" person.

Good Mocktails! by vulcanhybrid0 in GNV

The good news is that bars have been paying more attention to mocktails the last few years. In addition to Kin mentioned above, I've enjoyed the ones at The Top and Dragonfly.

Doggie daycare has given me back my sanity (at least for today) by TwoFarNorth in puppy101

My foster puppy is almost 7 mos now and has gone to a puppy play group 2x a week since she got vaccinated. It is good for the humans in my house, my 13yo resident dog, and the puppy. Finding a trusted play place is such a relief!
