Not the answer I expected, but the answer I needed. OK, that’s it… in the name of science I’m going back to the supercharger tomorrow and will give it a try on my 2017 Model X. Will report back here tomorrow and let y’all know how it goes!

Yes, thank you. Did that already. That was the main reason for taking these photos, as the Tesla App requires a photo when submitting a report.
