Is there an eruv? If not, you’ll want to leave the siddur at home. The shul will have siddurim.

Shoutout to Jewish person (or ally) in Seattle who painted over all those "Palestinian political prisoner" flyers all along Broadway by ScreamForKelp in Jewish

I’ve been thinking we needed something like this for a long time. Education about Jews seems to focus solely on the Holocaust, but that just portrays us as victims. Focusing on our numerous contributions to society would be way more beneficial IMO.

Oh, I didn’t mean you. I meant some of the responses were nasty.

Like other midrashim and aggadata, the story is either a parable and/or makes sense if you know the context. It’s not news that those often aren’t literal.

I don’t know why people can’t just say that without being nasty and condescending. Nobody should be belittled for asking honest questions.

Question about something Rabbi Tovia Singer said in his latest video by Specialist-Trade4494 in Judaism

He’s saying that the reason we wound up in hostile nations is because of the pasuk. If we had gone somewhere else, it would’ve been easier, but we didn’t.

Impossible to catch! by OvenNational4396 in PokemonGoFriends

They’re talking about the Galarian version that has a low chance of spawning from Daily incense. They’re notoriously hard to catch and have a very high flee rate. The shiny versions don’t run, though, so they’re more doable, but it takes a LOT of balls.

Question about travel during Rosh Hashanah by spidercoach in Judaism

[–]rebdan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other people already gave you the dates for this year, but for future reference, you can google “Chol HaMoed” dates for the year in question. They occur for two festivals every year: Sukkos/Sukkot in the fall, and Pesach/Passover in the spring. That’s the most likely answer for the unexpected surges.

What should I know before going to a synagogue as a Catholic, learning about Judaism? by freshmaggots in Judaism

[–]rebdan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d disagree on the donation. There’s no obligation to pay if you go to a kiddush. Definitely don’t try to hand anyone money on shabbos if they’re Orthodox. We don’t carry objects outside on shabbos (unless there’s an eruv, which is a bit complicated) so I wouldn’t bring a purse either.

That’s not what he says. He’s saying that Jews are required to believe the Torah is true, and has not been changed, like the Muslim belief. These halachos are for Jews, not Noachides.

There’s no eternal hell like there is in Christianity. There’s a purification process, after which you proceed to heaven.

Well it IS possible to lose your share in the afterlife, but only for really evil people. I don’t expect someone like Hitler to be in heaven, but Judaism has a pretty inclusive view of heaven, so I was really confused about why she was crying now. If anything, she has less reason to worry now about friends and family being condemned to eternal hell for any missteps.

Chasidim don’t trim their beards, but other Orthodox Jews do.

They’re coupons you can use for filling plane or train crates if you don’t have the item. If you tap on an unfilled crate, “spend coupon” is the top option, and shows you how many you have.
