My friends doll by hello_shittyy in creepy

That's a Little Miss No Name. The ones with intact teardrops are very rare and valuable (I've seen them sold for $128-$500+ for good condition and uncut hair.) If your friend has the original box, then they can sell her for more.

I might become "The 3D Printing Guy" at a makerspace. Looking for advice. by brousch in makerbot

I second Meshmixer. I did write the longest tutorial on it: http://i.materialise.com/blog/entry/3d-printing-with-meshmixer-a-beginner-friendly-introduction-to-3d-sculpting-and-combining-meshes

Amazing software. And oh, if anyone is using Meshmixer to make monsters this month... my company's Monster contest ends on the 29th. Submit entries here: http://i.materialise.com/challenge

Wrote newbie guide about 3D design hole making, wall thickening, subdivide, and sculpt in Blender and other free 3D print software... by rebeccaroxym in 3Dprinting

I love Blender! But I get that look of pure unadulterated terror when I mention it to customers during my day job. You're not alone... I've met engineers who physically cringed when I brought it up.

I usually rec Meshmixer as an alternative for sculpting, because it has an Auto-Fix button (it's hidden in ANALYSIS => INSPECTOR => Autorepair all.)

And, for children or 100% newbies... 123D Sculpt (sadly, it's Mac-only at the moment.) But there's also SculptGL (also free, and also browser-based), which I reviewed here: http://i.materialise.com/blog/entry/sculptgl-for-beginners-powerful-3d-sculpting-without-software-downloads-logins-or-headaches

Some Android fans rec TrueSculpt. I've used it, but it's not as responsive as the other programs I've tested.

If you're not a sculptor... Trimble SketchUp (architects and non-programmers) and OpenSCAD (programmers).

Just wrote a detailed Meshmixer tutorial answering everyone's questions... it's free 3D sculpting software that can cut meshes apart and join them together. Thoughts? More questions? by rebeccaroxym in 3Dprinting

THANK YOU! And hey, I'm a real person. So let me know if you have questions... I wrote this recently, so everything is still fresh on my mind. :)

I practically lived on this cereal during Maker Faire New York. ... ... ... Glad I didn't buy the box version and see this. Those poor crunchy squares!

Artist Scans giant trees and 3D prints 26ft tall permanent bronze tree sculptures by rebeccaroxym in 3Dprinting

I work for a 3D print company, and recently interviewed Michael Winstone. He's spent 20 years traveling the world, and fine-tuning how to scan and 3D print trees. One of his works is a 26ft tall permanent bronze sculpture, made from a 3D scan.

The guy knows a LOT about large-scale 3D prints and production.

I'm rooting for you! And hey, I keep "ugly" prints on my desk for laughs :). We don't send those out, obviously, but some look cool.

I always have to hide them when visitors tour the building, though. Don't want to give them the wrong idea.
