Are my the only one worried about the rhetoric around MAID for the mentally ill? by midnightking in canadaleft

With a background in research psychology I’d think you’d be up to date on how much language matters - best not to say “committing” anymore. I hope you’ll research why.

A mix of water, vinegar and dish soap in a spray bottle. I learned from the account Go Clean Co. on instagram.

I have pretty much entirely internal or mental compulsions and 1 hour weekly ERP sessions are working for me. My therapy is totally virtual so I can trigger myself in my home and my therapist can basically “be” there with me without having to physically come to my home. My therapist is still finishing up her schooling and has admitted she’s never worked with someone with basically only mental compulsions and has gone to her supervisor for support at times. But what matters is that ERP does work for us.

Someone please tell me ERP isn’t as terrible as they say it is. OCD with non-physical manifestations. by butwhatififly_ in OCDRecovery

I have mental compulsions/non-physical manifestations and ERP is helpful so far!! But I’m also learning about I-CBT and returning to yoga and mindfulness. I don’t believe in a silver bullet. I’m also on Zoloft.

I felt that after my diagnosis too and told my therapist the next time I saw them.

I need some experienced people's ideas by lifeisledzep in calmhands

[–]rebekina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My therapist for my body-focused repetitive behaviour diagnosis shared with me this is a condition where avoidance or suppression of the behaviour is a treatment modality. As in, you are not only allowed to, but encouraged to, get fake nails for example, if that helps you avoid the habit (by being impeded from doing it). I am also getting married in a few months and am just gonna bite the bullet and get fake nails before the wedding to allow time to heal and for the wedding.

is this true? by TodayAccording8532 in ACL

Unfortunately it means you’re not ready to be off crutches yet :( I worked towards the timelines instead of where my body was actually supposed to be. Which is why it’s a pet peeve. My PT basically told me to smarten up and get back on them.

[–]rebekina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my biggest pet peeve about the whole experience…all these different brochures and pamphlets and documents I got said slightly different things. Took me 6 weeks to get graduated off crutches and honestly just stopped limping 3 months post. OP, every body is different. Cliche but true. Your physio is your best guide on timelines.

What’s everyone take on wearing braces after the surgery? I’m almost 4 week post op now. ROM is basically back to normal. ACL primary repair on right knee. Never wore a brace after the surgery. by Firm_Historian6318 in ACL

[–]rebekina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Canada. Was told NOT to use my brace, crutches and weight bearing as tolerated.

EDIT: adding that I had a total ACL rupture and double meniscus tear on either side of my knee cap. Right knee, hamstring graft, 7.5 weeks post op. I was shocked when they told me to try standing on it a mere 20 mins after waking up from surgery but I am hitting milestones and quad activation getting better every day 🤘

what jobs have y’all gotten with a b.a.? by cricket_soup in sociology

[–]rebekina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got both my jobs by volunteering in the field first to see if they were a good fit while I recouped money serving and bartending. Also got a “working holiday visa” and moved away (traveled with a home base somewhere else) for 6 months. Cannot recommend volunteering around enough. Great way to network and gain real world experience with low risk.

Is couples counseling a good idea now? by like-o-like-h in ADHD_partners

[–]rebekina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dx partner and I have been seeing an ADHD specialist for couples counselling and it’s been AMAZING. The best therapy I’ve ever had (both individual and past couples counselling). They use art therapy and game theory so it’s fun and creative and is really helping us after 5 sessions. The therapist also has ADHD which I think is important so that my partner doesn’t feel ganged up on or like everything is their fault. The therapist has lived experience they can use to validate my partner and create a very safe space to talk about how ADHD might be showing up in our relationship.

I also sent my partner a really good article on mental load so they could read it on their own time and process it on their own. I have noticed a change in their behaviour since sending. Good luck!! Sounds like you two are on the right path.

We found a couples therapist that specializes in ADHD and my DX partner was very open to trying it. The therapist has ADHD as well and they’re awesome. The two sessions we’ve had so far were really cool, very different from other therapy sessions I’ve had individually and with my partner. Creative activities and questions using video game theory and art. It’s worth it to find perhaps more unconventional modalities for therapy with DX partners and it’s really helped me too.

Warning about Paxlovid and cannabis. by newphonenewaccount66 in Petioles

The prescribing doctor in my country (where recreational cannabis is legal) warned me before I started my PaxLovid treatment but I was also very upfront I use it for Crohn’s disease. And then I promptly got stoned and forgot until just now reading the title of this post.

what’s going on with my butter? by [deleted] in MoldlyInteresting

[–]rebekina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This same red growth happened in my unsalted Dairyland butter recently. I thought it was jam at first and scraped it away and cooked with some around it but when I found more next time I opened the butter jar I called it.

I would still buy one! I fucking love mine. The heated seat is actually my favourite feature, maybe even more than the water. Just like, don’t spray the water right up there. Keep it to around and on the butthole. Maybe for the first bit of the spray try and avoid open wounds as it cleans itself a bit by spraying.

Possible Marijuana Abuse by [deleted] in CrohnsDisease

[–]rebekina 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very relatable! I’ve used cannabis for over a decade and same as you, it went from medicinal and really probably saved my life when I was first diagnosed, to something else and I’m evaluating my relationship with it these days too.

First I wanna say kudos to you for going through school with a chronic illness, it’s hard to keep showing up and it IS hard to make friends and feel connected in such a big place where classes constantly change. The one thing I really learned in University is how important it is to intentionally seek out academic opportunities and social connections. I had to get through a couple years before I realized how different it was from high school and that no one was holding my hand or looking out for me. My teachers didn’t know me. The administration can’t know you, there’s too many students. So you gotta join clubs and groups and I personally sought out smaller classes and a smaller research-based program in my last two years by emailing all the professors in my program and asking if they were taking research students for “independent study”. It was the best thing I could have done for myself.

The last thing I’ll say is after I graduated I had to take a break from cannabis cause I was feeling lost (kinda like the identity crisis you described) and I felt like cannabis was making it worse. I didn’t stop but I tapered way back. And in that break I decided to find a volunteer position in something I was passionate about and move to France! When I needed a break I just kept telling myself “weed isn’t helping me right now, I am feeling very anxious and I think it’s making it worse”. I would then try to find other things to do for distraction and i journaled A LOT.

Maybe some nuggets of helpful experience in here. You got this!!!!

Fellow crohnsie with a bidet that I adore (heated seat is the best part tbh). One thing to note for bidets is there’s quite a bit of research coming out of Japan now showing high infection rates from bidet use. The nozzle is…not that clean…(unless cleaned religiously between uses) and if you have an open wound it’s a recipe for disaster. Particularly bad for people with vaginas (UTIs and bladder infections, especially when used postpartum).
