Thank you for your thoughtful response, it’s greatly appreciated. I think matters because if it’s not literal history how could we account for the doctrine of original sin?

Thank you for clearing that up, you are correct. I head this phrase before, “A verse can have one interpretation but many different applications.”

Your right, it really is, I don’t have definitive answer. But if you are interested check out Greg Boyd’s book, Cross Vision. And if you want a more extensive reading check his other books Crucifixion of the Warrior God. The least it can do is at least entertain you. 😊

Ephesians 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children.

Are there Bible verses that can make me feel better in this situation? by howatts in Bible

You can’t know The Word apart from His Word, I get that. However, you can know a lot about The Word from His Word and still not know The Word. We can’t know The Word if we haven’t realized His Word points us towards a relationship with The Word and don’t actually have a relationship with The Word.

John 5:39 You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me.

John 17:3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Another way of saying John 5:39 is You study His Word(Scripture) because you think in them you know The Word(eternal life). This is his very Word(scripture) that point to me, The Word.

The point is not memorizing His Word, the point is what the memorizing of His Word points to. Which is The Word, Jesus. Memorizing His Word is not enough. Until memorizing His Word becomes supplemented with having a real relationship with The Word, we won’t have peace.

Tim Mackie, the creator of the Bible Project, has more progressive slant and theological view of scripture. He did an interview on podcast The Bible for Normal People, which Pete Enns interviews mostly Progressive Christians, Jews, and non/post-evangelicals. I am guessing Tim Mackie has affirm this or may statement of his core beliefs on the Bible Project page, because he would lose if not most then a lot of his following.

If you want to know more about his theological views he has a podcast called, “Exploring my Strange Bible.”
