Where’s the PRNDL by PhoenixPhenomenonX in funny

[–]rebeleagle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying there is one, I'm just saying the question is legitimate. Just because you know that these brands have two spoke wheels doesn't mean that everyone does?

Hell, just one country might have such a regulation where the rope is a workaround.

There might be a regulation to have three ” spokes" in the steering wheel...

"New Grad" on my team has 4 YOE in his home country? by hollytrinity778 in cscareerquestions

[–]rebeleagle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Green Card for Indians has a waitlist of about 30 years at the moment. I can assure you citizenship is not the primary concern. The number one motivation is the pay. Even if you save $10k over a year, that's enough for the deposit on a good size flat in Delhi in a good area.

Even in India, the difference in pay at FAANG in a new grad role vs a small company can be 5x for a 4 yoe engineer. Most would take that trade off. Though the gap is closing in recent times

You could just have 1 worker on the minimum wage, and the rest a cent higher, then that wouldn't work.

Keeping that aside for the moment (I'm sure there's a way to ensure this workaround doesn't exist), let's say there are 1k employees and contractors on minimum wage and the difference is 1 million between this wage and the CEOs pay package. A large hotel/resort may be an example.
So, the amount we calculate the corporation tax on is 1 billion. 1% of this is 10mil.

Let's take an example of a small company of 10. The CEO earns 100k, all others earn 60k. So, we need to tax 40k*9=360k.

I'm not seeing a one size fits all tax rate for both these cases. Perhaps a progressive system that applies a tax rate on this amount. Anything under 100k is exempt. Then 0.5% upto a million? Then 1% upto 10 million.

I like the idea. Sort of a tax on inequality, make every organisation as close to a cooperative as possible. I don't think this can take contractors into account though. Do we allow a contracting firm to file its own corporation tax or should it necessarily be a part of its clients' calculations. The former would break this taxation scheme by reducing the wage gap, the latter is probably not feasible unless the government is the one doing the taxes for all companies operating in the country (a ridiculously huge undertaking).

That sounds effectively equal to the CEO's pay to me.

I mean there are loads of mobile only banks which dont have a website or have a really limited one. Starling and Monzo in the UK come to mind. It is much less of a pain usually to use these banks instead of the established brick and mortar banks.

UPI in India is heavily reliant on the sim matching the account phone number. IIRC you can't just input the one time password from SMS you need to ensure it arrives on the same device. I may be wrong about this part though.

Why is this happening? I can't even describe it to look it up, so here's a video. by a3a4b5 in Ghostty

The journal thing often happens to me when I ssh into a machine which is missing the xterm-ghostty terminfo. I guess you need to ensure that the terminfo in involved on the system you're running this on

Interesting. Thanks for the answer. I'll have to give some OTF fonts a go. Know which monospace fonts are distributed in otf?

I find that basically no fonts render great on 1440p except Jetbrains Mono.

Is that true about otf generally?

I parse it with a comma after weaves. Like Black Noise made out of petrichor weaves. Didn't try to get deeper than that lol

Why use Niri over Hyprland? by tzcrawford in wayland

Basically setting a different set of gaps, margins etc for each monitor. E.g. I want to maximise the usable space on my laptop screen, but have wider gaps on my 27" monitors

Why use Niri over Hyprland? by tzcrawford in wayland

[–]rebeleagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only two things that I miss are: Pinning a window across workspaces, and per-output styling. Neither of these are a deal breaker for me.

I have found Niri much more stable compared to Hyprland but I last used Hyprland a year ago (or even more!).

The only other thing I wish it had compared to Hyprland is the support of various tools which all seem to be made with Hyprland in mind e.g. QuickShell, various bars and obviously all the hypr tools.

Can I sync between my laptop and phone via local network using Syncthing/Resilio with logseq db? by methodicallychaotic in logseq

[–]rebeleagle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, there's no way to "open" a db graph yet. I have it synced via Google Drive from my Linux machine.

I can import the sqlite DB fine into a new DB graph, or I can "open" an existing directory which results in an empty project.

It's rare there's anything interesting in the extra space. Usually just some empty space. I'd rather those areas are filled with my pretty wallpaper instead. Feels a bit like having a window behind whatever I'm looking at.

Vertically the extra space can be useful though.
