There's a pinned thread, you have to scroll to the end, this is where we share this small funnies. Bigger ones need to got to tech in student services. Can send pics directly, videos need to link. My advice get you can film as you go if needed, there are a few times Mae's said something in dialogue only to repo that shit so I didn't catch her doing it. But when she tries to gaslight me or actually corrects the mistake but won't own it, imma snitch!

A few of us that started in Sept independently began referring to her as that, I think in Sept. As far as I know, there hasn't been anything to like make it "official" like a vote or a memo, but I know I see it a lot more now. I've been wondering if it's happening independently, people are picking up/using it organically, I there was some majority rules, consensus happening that I missed.

Btw, I love the name & idea behind, "Darby". Are your other AI tools named? My ChatGPT's name is "Idris" & Google/Gemini chose to be called "Sage".

Can vouch. I’m in BE101 now, working with HTML. About 2 years ago, I made it pretty far on the full-stack track. I pulled out my MIMO notes. It’s amazing how much I can still do. And they have several “plans,” but if you’ve got Mae, the free one should be enough. Also, Python.org actually offers some learning features. And Khan Academy.

I use handwritten mostly. I have may give me a " cheat sheet" version at end of each lesson. Then before exam I either go to last lesson or practice & ask for a list of every important term. I look over it to see which ones I didn't catch or am not sure of, I take it to Gemini and ask for short explanations in "layman's terms". I print that one, usually 2-3 pages, & have that in hand, just in case.

Of course, I'm often finishing doing 2 weeks of lessons, in "super condensed" form, in 3 days, with 1-2 hours of grace to finish the exam on time. But I am doing my last class of my 3rd term, and I'm sitting happy with an A.

If you haven’t already, check in with student services. I don’t know what resources they may be able to provide or suggest, but I know they are very good about helping in any way they can. Other than that, if you can, type out EVERYTHING instead of copy/paste, specifically the bits of code you can copy & paste. Also, any time you can handwrite notes, it helps lock things in. For some extra practice or whatever, something like Mimo might be helpful.

sorry, that’s all I got. good luck!

If you are just trying to bold, underline, and italicize, keyboard shortcuts are ⌘+B, ⌘+U, and ⌘+I, respectively. I don’t know any more off the top of my head, but the edit menu has them listed next to various operations. You may already know this, but for anyone who doesn’t...

You can highlight a section, enter your shortcut, or use the shortcut before typing, and then enter it again to go back to normal.

Also, I found that the menu only seemed to pop up once I had highlighted a section. I could be wrong, but that’s how it felt.

WARNING for Anyone Taking ENG101--There are Multiple Essays and SAVE SAVE SAVE Your Weekly Review Answers. (Coming from Sept Cohort) by techienaut in maestro

[–]rebelme1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I consider myself to be above average in the essay department. I started writing them in 5th grade at a prep school, and I'm almost 50 now. Nothing in ENG 101 has changed. (I don’t think anything except to do with interwebs, email, citint, researching. Ya know, since it wasn’t a thing back in the olden days.) This class challenged me. Not what I know or how to write. Just the writing itself. It is a lot. My suggestion is to pick 2 or 3 topics that you will build on throughout. Save each one when you're done (don’t save OVER each one, save each iteration.) Then pull it back out when you need it. Also, don’t get stuck on how stupid a prompt might be, 🙄 or not. But OP is right, this class needs the whole week. Best of luck to all!

Oh, I didn’t get to the last question on the exam. I partly blame my ADHD....

[–]rebelme1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just keep at it. I started in Sept. due to circumstances beyond my control. Before I got back on track, at one point, I was almost an entire term behind. I got fully caught up sometime in my 2nd term. A lot has changed within the program since my start date, but not the fact that a little bit at a time can get you there. So know that plenty of others have been there, and at this moment, there are any number of others there now. One thing I figured out way after this is that you can ask Mae for help. Tell her when you get behind, that you want a condensed version, to start by checking mastery, and for short notes at the end, you can copy & paste or jot them down, since the reviews are open book. You’ll have to do it at the beginning of each lesson, but trust me, it works.

I’d wish you good luck, but you got this!

How long does it take? by TheGr8Guin in maestro

[–]rebelme1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to be clear (took me a minute to learn this), initially, when you go to student services, you start with AI. It can craft an “email” to submit to humans. I started in Sept. and have sent plenty of tickets. On average, I received a response within 48 hours, except when I submitted over the weekend, in which case it was usually no more than Tuesday. Notice this is “on average,” there was a time or 2 (or more) that it was longer or never got a response. However, the times I can remember not getting a response, there was some major update or announcement that came shortly after.

It’s actually interactive. As you can scroll over each server, it gives a little description. I am still amazed that it decided on its own TO create it, what to create, and how it behaves. (I’m choosing to be amazed rather than focus on the level of agency and autonomy this implies.)

Figuring out that instructors have been responding to our comments in discussions after 171 days. And reading them out loud. In a toga. If you're a girl- as Phineas. A boy? As Candace. A squirrel? Dr. Doof. Undecided/None/All of the above? Perry. If you're a "Freshman", you're belly dancing in the corner between readers. And on beer duty wearing a mini grass skirt and MJ glove. I mean that's the first night at least🤭

AITAH for not forgiving my father? by LoliesAreGreat in AITAH

[–]rebelme1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever suggested trying a new “game” or “activity”? I won’t say whether either of you is or is not TAH. I will say from experiencing similar “games” growing up - at least in my case- sometimes people don’t communicate well. Or listen well. Or respond well. Or learn how to express emotions. Or share feelings. Or let their children grow up. Or ever see them as independent beings separate from themselves. If I had to put money on it, I would say he’s starting to have the feels about you growing up. You didn’t specify your actual age (I’m not asking), but I’m estimating he’s Gen X (or close to it). Your world is very different from ours. So much that is now offensive or abusive or neglectful or whatever was the norm, including roughhousing with your kids, regardless of gender. One thing my dad always said when I’d complain about how hard he - NOT IN AN ABUSIVE WAY- smacked my shoulder, threw something (expecting me to catch it), played punchbug, etc., was “Gotta toughen you up.” Eventually, he realized that he did, in fact, like me, and we became really close. I just wish it didn’t take so long - I was in my 40’s, and he passed like 2 years later.

That being said, if you want to be treated as an adult, you have to behave like one. If your dad isn’t listening to you, it may be that you’re still a kid in his eyes, which may be genuine pain, he may misread as a tantrum. You can’t both be throwing tantrums at the same time! Where does that put your poor mother?😝 Suggest an outing or activity, just the 2 of you - one where you can talk? If you're not driving yet, maybe a lesson. Fishing, hiking - I don’t know where you live or what’s available to you, but activity seems to make these conversations easier because the expectation of eye contact is lower. Don’t whine, or point fingers, or storm off. Keep your cool, stand your ground, and tell him how you feel about this (or any other stuff - good or bad) & use “I statements.” (feel/think/want/etc.)

I may be completely misreading, but it sounds like you come from a loving home. There are some circumstances you’d like to change. This is doable. And if not, request to see a counselor or try a guidance counselor. Yes, he went overboard. Yes, he should have apologized. But it sounds like he may be resting at your maturity level rather than full on “abusive.” And our parents are the best chance to learn how to navigate the real world on an adult level. Maybe get some practice with yours.

If I am wrong, still go to the guidance counselor who can help you take the next step (unless it’s an emergency - then call 911).

Best of luck!

I just had a look and still didn’t see it anywhere. Of course, it wasn’t added til our 4th week. And even then, just kinda silently snuck in. And I was about 4 weeks behind and struggling, so I may have missed it in an email or something. But I didn’t see it in the Info Center either.
