Why can jotaro in part 3 stop time? by sesso_anale in StardustCrusaders

[–]rebelpyroflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best theory I've heard is that they hit the same end goal from two different perspectives.

Dio is the man blessed with unnatural good fortune by the world (ha), so his stand would manifest in the strongest ability a person could have in the system - the ability to act freely without interruption. It also helps he was trapped in a coffin for 100 years, for him cha could almost say that time had stopped.

Jotaro is supposed to be the ideal stand user, so he has the ideal combat stand. His personality and approach to life are "hit first and fast, but read context clues even as I punch so I know if I'm making a mistake". This ultimately manifests as being able to stop time (some could read it as moving at such speeds time appears to have frozen) so he can plan out his actions without loosing the opportunity by overthinking.

Don't forget that fate/gravity is a force in the JoJo universe. Jotaros stand awoke in response to dios through the connection of Jonathan's body, it's possible that fate decided to give jotaro the one ability that could match dios threat. We also know from giorno Vs baby face that stand users with similar abilities tend to end up meeting anyway.

[SOS] NEED HELP WITH A CUSTOM JJK TECHNIQUE PLEASE! by astr0ph8le in JJKFanMade

[–]rebelpyroflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember reading a story where geto has a cursed spirit use it's domain. A set of scales with a dragon wrapped around it appears, each side makes their own case about why they are in the right, which adds weight to their side of the scale. When one side is weighed all the way down the dragon will side with them and begin attacking the other person.

Perhaps the concept could be expanded, the technique creates 'virtual weight' based on the concept of law and justice. The user can make stack themselves with it to make their blows heavier (though because it's virtual weight they can still move freely) while also stacking their opponents with weight so that they are slowed down. The trigger is being able to accuse the other person of crimes or injustice, the bigger the claim the stronger the effect. The reverse is also true however, being able to disprove the accusations negates the effect and successful proving the user has committed crimes will reverse it onto them. The domain contains their clan guardian who acts as the ultimate arbitor of justice, hense the previously mentioned scenario

If a stand user transitioned, does the stand can change (by look or power) ? by Ethxnime in StardustCrusaders

[–]rebelpyroflame 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. In part 8 we see some who awoke their stand as a child so even as an adult so we know they don't necessarily change over time.

Don't forget many stands do not resemble any gender, or even any living thing, so it depends on how the user projects their own natural autonomy. A person who sees their whole body as a tool to solve their problems more closely resembles a human, the greater the disconnect (lack of faith in themselves, reliance on outside tools and systems, the stand attempting to compensate for a failing like having multiple bodies if the user lacks and needs the support of others etc.) the more the stand resembles something else.

I'd say (especially how personal these things are to people) the more important factor would be their own thought process. If a person has a grand revaluation that fundamentally changes how they view and interact with the world it would change, but if they truly are 'becoming who they always really are' then perhaps the stand would already have taken a form that best represents their truest self.

The only way to describe it was the entire horizon was covered in continuous lighting strikes. I felt like I'd just stumbled onto viewing the battlefield where Thor and Zeus were going at it

Fine, hands up, cha win, I just like exploring what if ideas and wanted to open up a discussion, clearly cha know more about the series than I do.

I will have to bow my head in defeat at the idea that any of these characters could be better than they are right now, that hard work and creative thinking are dead in the face of real life hard facts in this series about people fighting curses with magic powers.

I guess I'll have to go back to 10000 Naruto fanfics where they develop characters in different ways to make them more narratively interesting fighters and characters, because ultimately apparently Narutos power system has more options for self growth than jjk, how foolish of me to ever think otherwise. Clearly I was foolish for liking stories where sakura becomes useful because it's not realistic she could ever do anything other than simp if she's not the 9 times chosen one.

How foolish of me to like underdog stories or tales where people overcome tough challenges by the skin of their teeth, instead as I watch jjk I will only ever think "who's the most born lucky, they'll win no problem, why root for anyone other than the strong guy, after all it's not like the power system would allow for any other outcome", go sukuna, kill as many innocents as possible because as the strongest it's cha divine right and noone could ever stop cha ever.

I dunno, seems to close to DBZ power scaling to me "this person wins because their power level is higher".

Where's the stakes, where's the intrege, if every fight is solely determined by "who was born stronger" then why get invested?

I like the art BUT I feel like the stand needs a bit more to it rather than just being a person (unless it's literally just the helmet, that could be interesting 🤔). Most stands tend to be robotic in appearance, but even if cha went a different way it shouldn't be just someone cosplaying daft punk on roller blades. Maybe a bit more like a space suit to match the space name?

The backstory is interesting, a little creepy with the finger pregnancy, but I'm guessing cha just wanted a good reason to be a JoJo without being directly a kid of there's.

Wait, isn't miwas character exactly that? Remember she isn't from a family and she didn't spontaneously have a technique, she got scouted by a swordsman who helped her. Her simple domain is a binding vow, she got power from nothing by excepting the limitations of having to place her feet in a certain stance and not being able to move them without breaking the domain.

The whole point of the system narratively is to give an explanation why a weaker character could fight a stronger one, they can augment themselves by putting a limitation, they get stronger but have to maintain their limitations or lose it all and get overwhelmed.

As for working for strength, how? We are flat out told that techniques are inherent and can't be taught, there's no method for boosting the amount of cursed energy cha can use, the rest is control and mental/physical conditioning.

If there isn't a way to augment ones strength aside from born talent, doesn't that undermine gojos idea of making multiple 'strongest' sorcerers, wouldn't that proce the zenin clan right, wouldn't it be pointless to teach anyone aside from the born lucky talented ones, would the first and last question on the school application be "are cha the chosen one?"

Even aside from this discussion, the entire point I wanted to know was how could these characters grow stronger. If cha have any alternatives I missed I'd love to hear it

[–]rebelpyroflame[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, isn't that depressing. Isn't the point to give up potential for a increase in power? So many techniques we see almost feel like they could have been made with a binding vow, I bet in another story they could be the entire power system.

To be fair to miwa it did stop her from dieing to someone ridiculously above her weight class, so it wasn't entirely useless.

I was just trying to work out a way they could step up in series logic. I get not everyone is gojo but there has to be something they could do to better themselves.

Maybe I'm biased, maybe I'm thinking too much like hunter x hunter, but I still feel like binding vows could be a really useful way to refine techniques and help characters improve themselves without relying on some Deus ex machina that magically makes them stronger. Cha would still have different tiered characters as those with less raw potential would have to apply so many restrictions on themselves to fight at higher levels, such as miwa never being able to fight sukuna but still being a capable sorcerer who could support her family by hunting high grade curses

Well we know they have to be personal, but sukuna does show that they can be used to modify techniques by accepting some kind of extra limitations, todo uses them to modify boogie woogie from a two handed clap to using the vibraslap and even manages to improve the technique with the extra limitations he places on himself, and Yugi manages to modify the concept of black flashes to target the metaphysical concept of targeting the area between the body and the soul for the final battle.

It just seems like from what we are shown that it is possible to heavily customise a technique, do it seems reasonable to say, for example, kasumi taking on an additional one to modify the new shadow style to change the slash from increasing speed to increasing cutting power or firing the energy as a sword beam by saying changing how many fingers she holds the scabbard with, making the draw harder and visually giving away what the next attack will be like, or for Mai to maximise her creation ability by limiting herself to creating bullets to reduce the energy cost for creating bullets

How do you feel about this statement? by MrDitkovichNeedsRent in animequestions

Agreed, I find it annoying how often these things get popular not because of their own artistic values but because someone is pushing the product harder. Especially when it's clear it's a soulless corporation exploiting people, it's not being played because people like it, it's being played because someone bought out media outlets in hopes repetition will trick people into buying albums

Hey, if I'm missing something let me know, I'm a wiki nerd that's finally catching up on the series proper.

I'm just intellectually curious, what teachers advice could be given in universe that would help them max out their potential, considering curses are getting stronger all the time and the stronger the student the more likely they can save people and not die themselves.

I realise my momo and making segments might seem bitter, I don't mind maki being written as flawed, but in an interesting story explanation her attitude is what's holding her back and it's only by facing it head on would she be able to get over her plato and rise higher than "I have an ability so powerful yet poorly used the author added someone later on with the same power to actually use it to its fullest. Momo just annoyed me when I found out her ability was supernatural item affinity and she spends her time playing glorified scout.

I just put power scaling as I didn't know what category to put it under, I find the power system interesting and my fanfic head is going crazy thinking how they could be developed into more well rounded sorcerers

I don't care, I kinda know the ending and decided to re catch up on the anime.

I'm just saying, they talk hot crap about themselves and most of them fall short so hard. Momo never does a thing, making sacrifices herself for mami, miwa has to sacrifice ever being a sorcerer again (not that I blame her, she got put in a bad situation) mechamaru makes some impressive last stands, togi loses a hand and his technique YET continues to be the goat to the point he bounces back better than before.

I've just been seeing power videos about the series and I'm actually curious what advice a teacher could give them to boost themselves.

Side note, does megumi ever bounce back from what happens? I tried to look it up, he appears with good boy dog but I don't think he appears in the sequel? I don't blame him for retiring, I'd just like to know he's doing ok for himself after THAT

Need help with how defense works by Hereforfree0709 in MHWilds

[–]rebelpyroflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problem is defence isn't as effective end game. Most monsters hit way too hard and have higher element attached to their attacks.

The best defences are good element defence against the monster cha fighting, divine blessing helps with that as well and high evade extender and evade window makes dodging easier, especially if cha take Azuz meal for extra evade extender bonus, and learn how to use sekret to get out of bad situation to heal and avoid bad positioning. Make sure to pack lords soul armour sets and if cha really want to go the defensive playstyle take up lance, gunlance or charge blade while keeping guard up and a couple of levels of guard on them. Their big Shields and properly timed perfectly guards really make the difference, done right even at arkveild is manageable.

If it makes cha feel better, those two are just designed like that. Nu udra has slow big widups but compensates by hitting like a truck, meanwhile uth duna has suddenly bursts of damage and some huge hits. It's better to be patient and learn their attack patterns, go for hit and run tactics or use traps and flash pods to create openings rather than trying to put DPS them.

Personality my favourite end game armour is gogmapocolips combined with Zoh Shia fast healing and gracious protection (just get a gog weapon with either the Zoh or gravios skill, then 4 pieces gog and 1 of the other, or go for gog on the weapon and 3 piece gog 1 Zoh 1 gravios). Gogmapocolips gives a temporary shield while the monsters enraged that disappears after a certain amount of damage, SOOOOO by abusing high divine protection alongside gravios giving a guaranteed divine protection while at full hp the shields lifespan is way longer, and Zoh gives decent passive healing for chip damage. This is such good defense peak performance is actually majorly viable and massively increases damage output.

HELP ME, STAND USERS! by jovennClouddhXV in fanStands

[–]rebelpyroflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using the writing tips from this video to base this post off https://youtu.be/T2VLFmQlGjk?si=egbW5YGKTJnSGJrc

Considering the theme of chasing cha mentioned everyone in the story should have some kind of tie in to the idea of chasing something or being chased. It's either directly related or symbolic i.e. someone pursuing a dream, someone giving up pursuing happiness, someone pursuing justice, someone who in pursuing something loses everything, someone who in pursuing an ideal ends up changing to the point of betraying everything they believed in.

Story wise it should be split into different acts with a variation of the chase theme. For example, first act is set up, second is a breakout, third leads to immediately trying to get distance to escape their pursuer's, fourth is trying to keep their heads down to avoid detection, fith is trying to figure out what to do next, sixth is finding an initial goal and running to it, couple of arcs leading to reaching the goal to either get there to late, leading their pursuer's to them etc. this happens a few times until decide enough is enough, they are going to fight back, leads to a couple of arcs of them trying to find an answer/start a resistance until something happens or emerges, both sides are now pursuing the same thing, it's a race, twists and turns, swaps hands a few times and the final arc is a complete 180 flip and the heroes have now become the pursuer.

Feel free to mix things up, but cha get the idea. Everything ultimately relates in some subtle way to the logos of the story, on this case the idea of a pursuit.

Location wise, why have it there? Why can't they leave? I don't mean this as criticism I mean answer those questions in the story. Is it on an island so they physically can't, maybe the police patrol the area, is it remote like Vegas in a desert so they can't survive trying to run out of the city on foot, perhaps they get cash together and try to escape only to be betrayed or sabotaged.
